General safety rules
WARNING. Read all instructions. Failure to follow all
instructions listed below may result in electric shock,
fire and/or serious injury. The term “power tool” in all
of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated
(corded) power tool or battery operated (cordless) power
tool.
Save these instructions
1. Work area
a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark
areas invite accidents.
b. Do not operate power tools in explosive
atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes.
c. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a
power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
d. This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or
instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person
responsible for their safety.
e. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do
not play with the appliance
2. Electrical safety
a. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify
the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with
earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and
matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric
shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of
electric shock.
d. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying,
pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away
from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an
extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of
a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
electric shock.
f. To reduce the risk of electric shock, the manufacturer
recommends the use of a residual current device
with a rated residual current of 30mA or less at
all times.
3. Personal safety
a. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power tool. Do
not use a power tool while you are tired or under the
influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of
inattention while operating power tools may result in
serious personal injury.
b. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid
safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c. Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the
off position before plugging in. Carrying power tools with
your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools that
have the switch on invites accidents.
d. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning
the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached
to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal
injury.
e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at
all times. This enables better control of the power tool in
unexpected situations.
f. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from
moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be
caught in moving parts.
5
g. If devices are provided for the connection of dust
extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are
connected and properly used. Use of these devices
can reduce dust related hazards.
4. Power tool use and care
a. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool
for your application. The correct power tool will do the job
better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn
it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled
with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c. Disconnect the plug from the power source before
making any adjustments, changing accessories, or
storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures
reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children
and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power
tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.
Power tools are dangerous in the hands of
untrained users.
e. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or
binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and
any other condition that may affect the power tools
operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired
before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly
maintained power tools.
f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly
maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less
likely to bind and are easier to control.
g. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc.,
in accordance with these instructions and in the
manner intended for the particular type of power
tool, taking into account the working conditions and
the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for
operations different from those intended could result in a
hazardous situation.
5. Service
a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair
person using only identical replacement parts. This
will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
h. This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or
instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person
responsible for their safety.
i. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do
not play with the appliance.

speed before using it. Stand to one side at start up.
6
Check that the wheel rotates freely each time before
start up.
Check that the tool rests are properly adjusted before
commencing use.
Do not overload the sharpener/grinder. Allow the grinder
to run at full speed, or close to full speed during use.
Never apply excessive pressure to the wheel. It might
shatter causing personal injury.
Make sure that the wheel is not in contact with the work
when you start the grinder.
When using the sharpener/grinder, use safety equipment
including safety goggles or shield, ear protection, dust
mask and protective clothing including safety gloves.

sharpening of steel. Do not use for any other purpose.
On/off switch
To switch the unit on press the ON/OFF switch (3) to the ‘1’
position, to switch OFF press switch to the ‘0 position.
Sharpening
Tool sharpening is performed by working against the
direction of rotation, with the tool support located on top
of the machine.
Sharpening planer blades and
chisels
1. Slide chisel and plane module
(16) onto power unit until it
clips into place.
2. Place the blade against the lip
of the plate (17). The magnets
will hold it in place.
3. Set the angle to the existing
bevelled face of the chisel
or planer blade.
4. Unscrew the adjustment knob
(13), rotate the plate to the
correct angle, tighten the knob.
5. Slide the blade down towards the grinding wheel (2),
make sure it just touches. Slide the plate away from
the grinding wheel.
6. Switch the unit on, wait a second or two for the grinding
to get to full speed.
7. Slide the blade and plate with a slight pressure back and
forth across the grinding wheel in a smooth continuous
motion. Do not hold the blade stationary – this causes
irregular sharpening.
8. Gradually slide the blade down the plate (17) while
sharpening.
9. Remove the blade at intervals to check the blade tip is
evenly ground, if not adjust the angle accordingly.
10. If sharpening small width chisels use the small chisel
guide (14), clip into place and grind as before.
11. When finished grinding switch OFF the grinding wheel
before removing the module.
12. It is recommended that after grinding the chisel tip is
honed on an oil stone.
Sharpening knives
Note. This module (8) is for sharpening straight edged
knives and scissors. Do not use serrated edged blades.
1. Slide module (8) onto power unit until clipped into place
securely.
2. Switch the power unit ON, and wait a couple of seconds
for grinding wheel to reach full speed.
9
3. Hold the knife handle and
slide the handle end of the
knife edge down the angled
face until it touches the
grinding wheel and draw the
knife towards you. Do not
apply too much pressure.
4. Insert the knife into the other
side of the guide and repeat 3.
5. Repeat sharpening each side
until a clean sharp edge
is achieved.
6. Switch the power unit OFF,
before removing the module.
Ensure the grinding wheel
has stopped.
Sharpening scissors
1. Slide the knife and scissor module (8) on to the power
unit, ensure it clips secure into place.
2. Switch the power unit ON, wait until the grinding wheel
is at full speed.
3. Open the scissors to be sharpened fully.
4. Keeping the pivot of the
scissors to the right hand side,
offer the blade to the face of
the grinding wheel resting the
blade on the angled rib.
5. Draw the blade across the
face of the grinding wheel from
pivot to tip. Use a slight but
steady pressure.
6. Turn the scissors over to sharpen the second blade,
keeping the pivot to the right hand side. Sharpen from
pivot to tip again.
7. Repeat 5 and 6 until a clean sharp edge is achieved.
8. Switch the power unit OFF, wait for grinding wheel to
stop before removing the module.
Sharpening high speed drill bits
Note. Sharpens HSS drill bits from 3mm – 10mm.
1. Slide the high speed drill sharpening module (6) on the
power unit until it clips securely into place.
2. Remove the clamp (7) from the module and insert the drill
bit to be sharpened, tighten the clamp lightly so the drill
bit can still move freely.
3. Place the clamp containing
the drill bit into the depth
setting slot, using the grooves
to locate correctly.
4. Move the drill bit forward so
that it lays in the “V” guide and
touches the metal end stop.
5. Tighten the clamp so the drill
bit is secure.
6. Remove the clamp and drill bit from the setting position
and locate onto the sharpening position ribs, and push
down firmly.

sharpen the other side of the
drill bit and repeat 8.
10. Remove the clamp holder
and check the edge of the
both flutes of the drill bit,
they should be equal, if not
repeat the setting of the drill
bit in the clamp and repeat
sharpening process.
11. Switch the power unit OFF,
wait until grinding wheels
has stopped remove module.
Maintenance
WARNING. Always ensure that the tool is switched off and
the plug is removed from the power point before making any
adjustments or maintenance procedures.
Replacing the sharpening stone
Prior to changing a stone, ensure the tool is switched off
and the power plug is removed from the socket.
The spindle has a left hand thread, use a flat blade
screwdriver to hold the shaft still and use a spanner to turn
the nut in a clockwise direction.
When refitting the sharpening stone hold the shaft and turn
the nut in anti clockwise direction until tight.
Power cord maintenance
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a
special cord or assembly available from the manufacturer
or its service agent.
