This applianceisequippedwith different size
surface dements. Select panswith flat bot-
toms largeenough to cover dement. Fitting
pan size to dement wi[[ improve cooking
efficiency.
If pan is smaller than element, a portion of
the element will be exposed to direct con-
tact and could ignite clothing or pothdder.
Only certain types of glass,glass/ceramic,
ceramic, earthenware,or otherglazeduten-
silsare suitablefor cod<top servicewithout
breaking due to the suddenchangein tem-
perature. Follow utensil manufacturer's in-
structions when usingglass.
Turn panhandletoward center of cod<top,
not out into the room or over another
surface dement. This reduces the risk of
burns, ignition of tlammab[e materials, or
spillageifpanisaccidendybumpedor reached
by smallchildren.
NEVER coo[<onbroken cod<top.[fcooktop
shouldbreak,cleaningsolutionsandspi[[overs
may penetrate the broken cooktop and cre-
atearisk of electric shock. Contact aqualified
technician immediately.
Clean cooktop with caution. Some cleaners

Heating dements may be hot even though
they are dark in color. Areas near surface
dements may become hot enough to cause
burns,
During and after use, do not touch or let
clothing or other flammablematerialscontact

Other potentially hot surfaces include:
Cooktop and areasfacingthe cookmp.
NEVER store items of interest to chi[-

HOODS
Clean range hood and filters frequently to

For added flexibility, the cooking surface is
equipped with a bridge dement to accom-
modate longer gourmet pans and skillets.
The bridge dement is located in the left
rear position, To operate, push in on the
control knob and turn to the right to
control the sinai[ dement, or push in and
turn to the left to control the bridge ele-
ment

Each dement has a hot surface indicator
light A light will be ilhminated when the
matching cooking area is hot. [t wiiI remain
on, even after the control is turned off, until
the area has cooled. The lights are located
near the control knobs.

The size, type of cookware and cooking
operation wiiI affect the heat setting. For
information on coN<ware and other fac-
tors affectingheatsettings,refer to "Cook-
ing Made Simple'* booklet
Hi:
Useto bring liquid to aboil. Always
reducesettingto alower heatwhen
liquids beginto boil or foods begin
to cook.
6-8: (medium high)Use to brown meat,
heatoil for deep fat frying or saute-
ing. Haintain fast boil for large
amounts of liquids.
4-6: (medium) Useto maintain slow boil
for large amountsof liquidsand for
most frying operations.
2-4: (mediumlow) Usetocontinue cook-
ing covered foods or steamfoods.
Lo: (low) Use to keepfoods warm and
melt chocolate and butter.

" Glass-ceramiccooktops retain heat for a period of time after the unit is turned off.
When the HOT SURFACElight turns off, the cooking area will be coo[ enough to
touch.

The cooking areason your rangeare iden-
tified by permanent patterns on the glass-
ceramicsurface.Formostefficient cooking,
fit the pansize to the dement size.
Pans should not extend more than _hto
t-inch beyond the cooking area.

° Do not useglasspans.They mayscratch
the surface.
° Do not allow plastic,sugaror foodswith
high sugarcontent to reek onto the hot
cooktop. Should this happen,dean im-
mediately. (SeeCleaning, page5.)
Never let a pan boil dry as this wii[
damagethe surfaceand pan.
Never usecod<top asawork surfaceor
cutting board. Never cook food direcdy
on the surface.
Never placeatrivet or wok ringbetween
the surface and pan. These items can
mark or etch the top.
Do not slide metal pans across a hot
surface.The pansmayleavemarkswhich
canbe difficuk to remove or leaveper-
manent marks. Any marks should be
removed promptly. (See Cleaning, page
5.)
° Hake sure the surfaceand the pan bot-
tom aredean andsmooth beforeturning
on to prevent scratches.
To prevent scratchingor damageto the
glass-ceramictop, do not leavesugar,salt
or fats on the cooking area. Wipe the
cod<top surface with a dean cloth or
paper towel before using.
° Never usea soiled dish cloth or sponge
to dean the cooktop surface.A film wiii
remain which may cause stains on the
cooking surfaceafter the area is heated.
° Do not usea sinai[ pan on a large ele-
ment. Not only doesthis waste energy,
but it canalsoresuk in spiiiovers burning
onto the cooking area which requires
extra cleaning
° Do not usenon-flat specialty items that
are oversized or uneven such as round
bottom woks, rippled bottom and/or
oversized cannersand griddles.
° Do not slideheavymetal pansacrossthe
surfacesince these may scratch.
Do not use foil or foil-type containers.
Foil may melt onto the glass. [f metal
meltson the cod<top, do not use.Cai[an

° [faspiiiover occurswhiie cooking, imme-
diately dean the spill from the cooking

area while it is hot to prevent a tough
cleaningchore later. Usingextreme care
wipe spillwith a dean dry towel
° Do not allow spills to remain on the
cooking area or the cooktop trim for a
long period of time.
Do not use abrasive cleansingpowders
or scouring padswhich will scratch the
cooktop.
" Do not use chlorine bleach,ammonia or
other cleansers not specifically recom-
mended for useon glass-ceramic.
To retain the appearance of the glass-
ceramic cooktop, dean after each use.
Glass-ceramic surfaces retain heat.
Turn the dement off a few minutes
before food iscompletely cooked and
usethe retained heat to complete the
cooking.
Becauseof the heatretention charac-
teristics, thedements will not respond
to changesin settingsasquickly ascoil
dements, tn the event ore potential
boilover, remove the pan from the
cooking area.
To achieveoptimum cooking performance,
useheavy-gauge,fiat, smooth bottom pans
that conform to the diameter of the cook-
ingarea.( See"Cooking Made Simple"
for cod<ware characteristics and recom-
mendations.)

Use Jenn-Air's flat bottom wok (Model
AO 142)for optimum resuks. The wok has
a nonstick finish, wood handles, cover,
steaming rack, rice paddies, cooking tips

parts are cool before handming or
cleaning. This is to avoid dam-
age and possible burns.

To remove knobs, turn to the OFF posi-
tion. Pu[[each [<nobstraight up from the
shaft. Do not remove sea[ under [<nob.
, Wash knobs in warm soapy water or
dishwasher;do not useabrasivecleaners
or materials.
To replace each[<nob,match fiatpart of
[<nobopening with the flat part of the
shaft, returning to OFF position.
COOKTOP- GLASS-CERAMIC

° General- Clean cooktop after each use,
with a damp paper rowe[ and Cooktop
Cleaning Creme (Part No. 20000001) SS.
Then, buff with a dean dry cloth.
NOTE: Permanentstdns willdevelopif soil
isalbwedtocook`onbyrepeatedlyusingthe
cook.topwhensoiled.
Heavy Soils or Heta[ Harks -
Dampen a "scratch[ess" or "never
scratch" scrubber sponge. Apply
Cooktop Cleaning Creme"" {Part No.
2000000[)** and scrub m remove as
much soil as possible. Apply a thin layer
of the creme over the soil cover with a
damp paper mwe[ and let stand 30-45
minutes (2-3 hours for very heavy soil).
Keep moist by covering the paper towel
with plastic wrap. Scrub again, then buff
with a dean dry cloth.
NOTE: Only use a CLEAN, DAMP
"scratchless" pad that issafe for non-
stick cookware. Thepattern and glass
will be damaged if the pad is not
damp, if the pad is soiled, or if an°
other type of pad is used.
Burned-on or Crusty Soils - Scrub
with a "scratch[ess" or "never scratch"
scouring pad and Cooktop

Stubborn soils may be removed with a

luster and remove streaks, follow with
StainlessSteel Hagic SprayS.
° Discoloration -- Usinga damp sponge
or soft cloth, wipe with Cameo Stainless
Steel CleanerS. Rinse immediately and
