About the Edge-SS Steel Door Sensor

ProVia Special:

A PLC integrated sensor located on the caster table that detects a steel skin. Two 24 VDC relays

in the Main Electrical Cabinet activate when a steel skin is detected and steel edge door is loaded

into the Edge-SS. The relays interact with KvalCAM to close or open a dust collection gate.

Important: A closed gate on the dust collection prevents hot cast offs of a steel skin door

from entering the dust collection which could be a Fire Hazard. However, before

changing over to wood or fiberglass doors, ALWAYS clean or vacuum up the steel

cast offs. The remaining steel cast offs could be a Fire Hazard.

Goal

The goal of this document is to describe the Steel Door Sensor process.

Mechanical Additions

2 Relays are inserted into the 24 V

Terminal Block in the Main Electri-

cal Box.

Customer will connect the relays to

the dust gate.

The Ferrous Sensor is located at

the infeed corner.

Process

The ferrous sensor identifies a steel door and will alert the program to close the dust collection by

gating off the input.

The closed gate will stop hot cast-off particles from entering the dust collection and stop possible

fires.

Steps to Cut a Metal Door

Verify that the Door Data settings are correct.

1. At the top right of the KvalCAM interface,

select the Libraries Tab. Select the desired

Door Job from the Door Job Table.

2. Under the Door Data Section, make sure that

Steel is selected under Hinge Material and

Lock Material.

Note: Face Material and Core Material selec-

tions do not affect this process.

3. Start the door cutting process.

4. Load the steel door and position it against

the stop and fence according to the Opera-

tor’s Screen.

5. Clamp the door into place.

Note: For safety reasons, the clamping action

activates an error checking process. If

settings are correct, the dust collection

gate will close and cutting process can

go foreword. If settings are not correct,

the process will Stop. See the next page

for information about error messages

Note: If the gate mechanically fails, the pro-

gram will stop and displays an appropri-

ate message.

Important: Before changing over to wood or fiberglass doors, ALWAYS clean or vacuum

up the steel cast offs. The remaining steel cast offs could be a Fire Hazard.

Error Messages

In this case, a steel door is loaded

into the Edge-SS however the

loaded Door Job expects a wood or

fiberglass door. The Edge-SS will

not process the door.

In this case, a wood or fiberglass

door is loaded into the Edge-SS how-

ever the loaded Door Job expects a

steel door. The Edge-SS will not pro-

cess the door.

Process

In most cases an incorrect program is downloaded.

1. Cancel the current Door Job.

2. Load the correct Door Job.

3. At the Edge-SS, load and clamp the door.

4. If Door Job is correct, continue processing the door.

Tip: For a quick check, verify that the selection under Hinge Material and Lock

Material match the door being processed.
