HP_Katalog_209_EAL.indd 2-3 20.11.2009 14:37:54 Uhr
Think radical. Stay focused. Compromise on nothing. Question everything. For our engineers this
isn’t just a job, it’s a calling. They leave nothing to chance, and concentrate on the essentials, trying
to squeeze every last drop of horsepower out of the engine, and strip every last gram of weight out
of the bike. Visionary design and a passion for engineering create unique motorcycles. Built for the
racetrack. Built for the road. Built for you. Welcome to High Performance.”

The engine of the new HP2 Sport is truly a masterpiece of engineering.
The raw numbers are enough to leave you in no doubt – this is a
power unit that is built with absolute performance in mind. It develops
133 horsepower (98 kW) at 8,750 rpm, and while its maximum torque
of 115 Nm is produced at 6,000 rpm, the boxer engine will rev all the
way up to 9,500 rpm. The HP2 Sport also features all-new cylinder
heads, with cam follower valve lifts attached to double overhead
camshafts on each cylinder. There are four radial valves on each
cylinder, with valve plate diameters of 39 millimetres at the in³ ow
and 33 millimetres at the out³ ow. Other modi² cations such as
air³ ow-optimized intake and exhaust ports, new forged pistons
and redesigned connecting rods also contribute to the outstanding
performance. Two oil coolers, running in parallel one behind the
other, prevent the engine from overheating.
The pinnacle of evolution.

12 – 13 | HP2 Sport
HP stands for High Performance. The HP2 Sport is a pure sportsbike,
and everything about it serves that end. Weight is reduced to an
absolute minimum, and radical design innovations abound. There
are a wealth of exclusive components, such as the adjustable Magura
master cylinders, adjustable milled foot pegs, and billet aluminium
top yokes, all designed and manufactured to the very highest quality
standards.
The bike also draws on BMW Motorrad’s extensive experience of
endurance racing. Everything from the gear shift assist to the carbon
² bre panels and 2D GP dashboard is designed solely with perform-
ance in mind. Riders will also love the Öhlins sport suspension, which
is adjustable for height and rebound/compression damping, and the
radially bolted Brembo monobloc brake system. BMW Motorrad ABS
is available as an option – for track use, this can be deactivated.
A whole that’s more than the sum of its parts.
HP_Katalog_209_EAL.indd 12-13 20.11.2009 14:37:59 Uhr
The HP2 Sport represents the absolute pinnacle of boxer engine
design. The BMW Motorrad designers have poured all their love of
brilliant engineering and passion for detail into creating a thorough-
bred sportsbike of the highest class.
As a genuine High Performance machine, there are no compromises
in the HP2 Sport. Every detail right down to the last screw contributes
to the handling and riding dynamics, so riders can push their abilities
to the absolute limit. Thanks to components such as the carbon front
fairing, self-supporting carbon tail section, and forged alloy wheels,
the dry weight is an unbelievably light 178 kilograms. Combine this
with the incredible engine and outstanding chassis, and you have a
machine that is the sports rider’s dream.
The unbeatable lightness of being.

The Brembo monobloc brake system is as uncomprom-
isingly sporty as everything else about the HP2 Sport,
and specially modi² ed ABS is available as an option. At
the front, radially mounted 4-piston brake calipers deliver
precise control of the two 320-millimetre discs.
2
The Telelever front suspension features a specially
modi² ed Öhlins sport shock absorber, with adjustable
spring preload and rebound/compression damping.
The suspension height can also be adjusted with a
high degree of precision.
3
The HP2 Sport also features an Öhlins sport shock
absorber with adjustable rebound/compression damping
at the rear. The suspension height can be adjusted to suit
the rider‘s current requirements.

The number plate holder, including rear light and
indicators, can be demounted for track use in a matter
of seconds.
5
The rear-wheel brake features a double-piston ³ oating
caliper. As at the front, these are operated via high-quality
steel-braided brake lines.
6
The ultra-lightweight forged wheels are exclusive to the
HP2 Sport, and were specially developed to deliver the best
possible handling. They come as standard with racing tyres,
in the 120/70 ZR17 size at the front and the 190/55 ZR17
size at the rear.

Keen racers will love the GP dashboard from 2D Systems. It features a large digital
display with four different modes, showing information such as lap times, maximum revs
or fuel levels. Additional systems such as lap timers, GPS tracking or telemetry recorders
can be connected if desired. Data such as maximum and minimum speeds, throttle and
brake actuation percentages, and fastest and current lap times can also be captured.
2
The top yoke and the two adjustable stock handlebars are high-quality forged and
milled aluminium components. The brake and clutch master cylinders, the latter with
a radially mounted pump, are also located here, attached with quick-release clamps.

The HP2 Megamoto is equally at home drawing admiring glances
in the urban jungle as it is tearing up country roads or drifting through
corners on the racetrack. As you’d expect of an HP2 model, its design
is stripped back to the bare essentials, with no extraneous elements
that do not enhance performance. Premium-quality components
and workmanship combine to make this a truly unique motorcycle –
and its lightweight construction and powerful boxer engine ensure
it delivers a unique adrenalin rush. It delivers an impressive
113 horsepower (83 kW), and all the torque you could wish for, even at
low and medium revs, up to a maximum of 115 Nm. Of course, one look
at the aggressive styling of the HP2 Megamoto, with its clean lines
and high-tech, high-quality materials, will already have told you all you
need to know about its performance. Light, powerful and extremely
responsive, with a forward riding position, outstanding balance and
ergonomic design, it will be love at ² rst ride.
No half measures. The HP2 Megamoto.

The two brake discs at the front give the HP2
Megamoto the sort of stopping power you’d expect
from a state-of-the-art road-going sportsbike. BMW
Motorrad ABS is available as an option.
2
The Marzocchi upside-down fork with its 45-millimetre
fork sliders has a travel of 160 millimetres, and adjustable
compression and rebound damping. The result is a combi-
nation of responsiveness and outstanding grip in every
situation.

set up for the HP2 Megamoto. 160 millimetres of
travel ensures precise feedback and optimum traction.

The Akrapovic silencer was developed especially for
the HP2 Megamoto. It is designed to maximize torque,
while delivering a full, throaty sound.
5
The wheels are designed for sports-style riding on
surfaced roads. The lightweight rims are combined with
a 120/70 ZR17 tyre at the front, and a 180/55 ZR17 tyre
