1.0 Introduction
1.1.0 Safety information
The GfS e-Bar® is certified according to EN 1125 and EN 1634 and meets highest quality and safety standards. In order to keep the
GfS e-Bar® operational the door must be in a perfect state during and after installation.
To assure the correct functioning of the GfS e-Bar® and to maintain a safe emergency exit route the following guidelines have to be re-
spected:

When changing the cylinder lock (European cylinder): employ cylinder with lockable cam.
The mounting has to be done by qualified personnel only.
After installation the assembly instruction has to be passed to the building operator.

1.3.0 Functions of GfS e-Bar® 70073x, 70074x
Local alarm types
GfS e-Bar® activated
When activated the display of the cabled GfS e-Bar® is permanently illu-
minated green. Green is signaling that the door is alarm secured but
might be opened at any time. In case of battery supply the GfS e-Bar®
works in an energy saving mode without background illumination. The
display shines for just about 15 sec. green and expires then.
Pre-alarm
While slightly pressing the GfS e-Bar® a red flashing light and an acoustic
alarm (95dBA/1m) is emitted, which expires as soon as the GfS e-Bar® is
released. The prealarm is activated just during the first mm of the pushing
movement. The correct moment when the pre-alarm is turning into a main
alarm can be adjusted by a regulating screw resp. in older versions of the
GfS e-Bar® by a reed contact (see operating manual page 8). It would be
ideal if the pre-alarm is set in a way that the main alarm is just activated
when the GfS e-Bar® is pushed to a point in which the door is released.
The pre-alarm can be transmitted to a central display
Main alarm in case of an unauthorized or an emergency passage
When pressing the GfS e-Bar® completely the door is released. At the
same time the display emits an intermittent green light and a permanent
alarmwith95dBA.Theacousticandvisualalarmcanbejustswitchedo
on the integrated key switch. The main alarm can be transmitted to a cen-
tral display. With remote technology the main alarm is transmitted via
channel 1.
Battery Control
When the GfS e-Bar® is battery supplied a gentle acoustic alarm in an in-
terval of 60 sec is emitted as soon as the voltage drops below 7 V. The
display is not shining. The alarm is active till a new battery is connected.
Door-too-long-open-Alarm
Pre-condition for this feature is a reed-contact which is installed
on the door and connected to the GfS e-Bar®. When the single re-
lease has been activated on the integrated key switch and the
door stays open for more than 15 sec. a gentle “door-too-long-
open-alarm” is emitted in an interval of 3 sec. This alarm indicates
that an authorized person has left the door open. As soon as the
door is closed the alarm expires.

1.3.0 Functions of GfS e-Bar® 70073x, 70074x
Operating the GfS e-Bar®
Deactivation of main alarm
The main alarm can just be deactivated by a) turning the key in the in-
tegrated key switch by 90° into the 12.00 o’clock position b) turning the
key back by 90°. Afterwards the key should be removed. 15 sec. after this
operation the GfS e-Bar® is activated again. The display shines perma-
nently green (external power supply) resp. for 15 sec. green and expires
then (battery powered). In case that a reedcontact is installed and con-
nected to the GfS e-Bar® , the GfS e-Bar® is activated again after the door
is closed. Attention: There is no possibility to deactivate the GfS e-Bar® by
an external switch!
Single release
By using the integrated key switch or by employing an external access
control system, an authorized person may pass the emergency exit once
without causing an alarm.
To achieve this the key switch has to be turned by 90° into the 12.00
o’clock position and turned back. The key should be removed. 15 sec. af-
ter this operation the GfS e-Bar® is activated again. The display shines
permanently green (external power supply) resp. for 15 sec. green and ex-
pires then (battery powered).
In case that a reed-contact is installed and connected to the GfS e-Bar®,
the GfS e-Bar® is activated immediately after the door is closed. With an
installed reed-contact a gentle “door-too-long-open-alarm” is emitted af-
ter the door has been left open for more than 15sec.
When closing the door again the alarm expires immediately. The gentle
“door-too-long-open-alarm” emits sounds in an interval of 3 sec. The sin-
gle release can be activated and deactivated by external access control
systems (see operating manual page 18). Alternatively the single passage
is possible by turning the key in the lock of the door.
Permanent release
By using the integrated key switch an authorized person may deactivate
the GfS e-Bar® in order to pass the emergency exit for a longer period of
time. When the permanent release is activated the door can be passed
without causing an alarm. The status is communicated by a rising and
ebbing of the green display. To achieve this the key in the key switch has
to be
a) turned by min. 90° into the 12.00 o’clock position for more than ca. 5
sec. and
b) turned back by 90°.
The key should be removed. The permanent release is activated till the
key is turned again by min. 90° into the 12.00 o’clock position and re-
moved afterwards. This status can be activated and deactivated by exter-
nal signals (timer, access control systems etc.). The status can be trans-
mitted to a central display (see operating manual page 18). With remote
technology the main alarm is transmitted via channel 2.

1.4.1 Versions of GfS e-Bar® mechatronic
1. GfS e-Bar® with integrated alarm (battery operated and/or wired)
This model works either with a 9 V battery which is controlled by the PCB or with an external power supply of 10-30VDC.
The battery control function checks every 10 hours the voltage. If the voltage drops below 7V, all 60 seconds an acoustic alarm is emitted.
The battery has to be exchanged. When battery operated the GfS e-Bar® works in an energy saving mode which basically means that the

control unit. The integrated emergency exit switch with 2 opening contacts might be connected to the emergency exit control unit, a central
display. Besides it is recommended to install additionally a reed-contact, in order to generate a signal that the door has been left open or that
somebody has entered the door from the outside.
Delivery includes 1 integrated emergency exit switch, 2 keys, 1 picto for the display and the key switch as well as one sticker explaining the

as you need them again for the assembly.
ATTENTION:
The clamping area should be protected by wood/plastic material in order to avoid scratches on the surface of the profile!
Carefully cut the profile with a conventional metal saw along the lug. A straight cut is easier when pressing the blade slightly against the lug.
After shortening the profile bur the edges carefully in order to avoid injuries.
ATTENTION:
Do not employ "lubricants and ccolants" when shortening the mechatronic versions od the GfS e-Bar®. Metal chips must not stay in the
GfS e-Bar®. Danger of short-circuit! After shortening insert the console
7
into the base profile. Place the shims
8
(0,8mm thickness)
between the console and the base profile.
IMPORTANT:
The shims (8) are designed to avoid pressure marks and deformations by the clamp-connection. Fasten the four cylinder pins M4x4 (3) with a
torque betwenn 0.4Nm and max. 0.5Nm! Just mechatronic versions: Insert carefully the plug of the ribbon cable (5) into the connection circuit
