1 Overview
・
This specification defines projector control commands for PLV-HD2000.
・
The projector control commands are used to control a projector remotely through RS-232C from
a computer.
・
Refer to [8. Command with Address Specification] when using commands with address.
2 Serial Interface Specification

2) Transmission speed can be changed in Service Mode.
2.2 Connection
Dedicated serial cables that come with a projector must be used for the connection between a
computer and the projector.
PC Projector

Connect COM port of a computer to SERIAL PORT IN of the projector.
COM Port (COM1 or COM2) of a computer is specified by control software of the computer.

3 Notes for Communication
・ The projector command is defined as a single command per line that starts with “C” and ends
with carriage return (0x0D).
・ When the projector receives carriage return, it starts decoding.
・ There are two types of commands: Functional Execution Commands and Status Read
Commands.
Example of Functional Execution Command: “C05” [CR]
Example of State Read Command: “CR0” [CR]
・ Projector clears the information of buffer in the cases below:
1) When the projector receives LF (0x0A) or EOF (0x1A).
2) When it takes more than one second to receive a signle command.
(Until the projector receives carriage return since it has received the first data.)
・ When executing the command pipelining for Functional Execution Commands, wait the interval
of time as below after the response.
1) [ZOOM UP/DOWN] [FOCUS UP/DOWN] [LENS SHIFT UP/ DOWN/ LEFT/ RIGHT]
Commands 100ms
2) Other Commands 500ms
・ When executing the command pipelining for Status Read Commands, allow at least 500ms after
the reception of the response.
・ Do not issue any command before receiving the response except when there is no response for
5 seconds.
・ Projector takes about 7 seconds for the internal initialization after plugging in AC until it moves to
Standby mode. During this time, the projector cannot process commands. Do not issue any
command.
・ For 7 seconds after executing Power ON operation in Stand-by mode, the projector receives a
command and returns the response but does not execute it due to the internal initialization or
lamp processing. However, Status Read Commands are carried out after 500ms when receiving
the response to Power ON command.
・ The operation during Countdown process and after Cooling Down:
When receiving a command during Countdown process after Power ON or Cooling Down
process after Power OFF, the projector returns the response but does not carry it out. However,
Status Read Commands are carried out.
・ The operation of Input switching:
Projector takes 5 seconds to switch inputs after receiving the command. When it receives
another command during this process, the command function is not executed. However, Status
Read Commands are carried out after 500ms since it receives the response to Input switching
command.
・ The number of characters of the response to Status Read Commands depends on commands.
・ Characters used for commands must be all Capital (A -Z).

6. Functional Execution Command Table
6.1 Format
・ PC issues a command in the format below:
“C” Command [CR]
Command: Two characters (Refer to Functional Execution Command Table)
・ A projector decodes the received data and returns the response when it gets ready to receive the
next command.
[ACK] [CR]: (0x06, 0x0D) When Functional Execution Command is received.
“?” [CR]: When the received data cannot be decoded.
6.2 When the Command Pipelining is needed
In the case of the function requiring command pipelining, the operation should follow the same way
as in remote control.
・ Sending-side system issues commands every 100ms.
・ When receiving an applicable command, the function is executed repeatedly for 120ms.
・ When receiving the same commands in sequence within 120ms, the function is repeatedly
executed for another 120ms from the moment of the second command reception.
・ When there is no incoming command after 120ms, the execution of pipelining is stopped.
・ When the projector receives the other command within 120ms, the execution of pipelining is
stopped.
6.3 Transfer Example

6.34 FULL LAMP MODE SET Command

When HALF LAMP Mode is set, the projector automatically selects the lamps
which are turned on, but with this command, the lamps No1 & No.4 are first
chosen. This is used to adjust the correction level of uneven color.
When switching from all lamps to 2 lamps, then to all lamps again, or switching
from 2 lamps to all lamps, then to 2 lamps again, allow about 90 seconds of
preparation time for lamp lighting.

from 2 lamps to all lamps, then to 2 lamps again, it is unable to switch for 90
seconds for the Lamp preparation.

7.1 Format

When the status is Standby, Status Read Commands are always accepted, while
Functional Execution Commands are not accepted except POWER ON command.

When “Display” in the Setting menu is set to ON, executing Power ON starts countdown
operation.
When “Display” in the Setting menu is set to OFF, the status moves to Immediate Power
ON status.

When the status is Power ON and then POWER OFF command is executed, it moves to
Cooling Down status.
Cooling Down status automatically moves on to Standby status in about 90 seconds of
fan spinning after the lamp is turned off. The fan spinning time varies according to PJ
models.
During this time, Functional Execution Commands are invalid.

Status: Power Failure
When the power supply voltage inside the projector reaches abnormal level, the status
moves to Power OFF automatically. The projector returns “10” [CR], which indicates it
has moved to Power OFF status due to power failure. Unlike Cooling Down status, Fan
also stops in this case. This status continues for about 90 seconds and moved to
Stand-by.
・ “28” [CR]
Status: Cooling Down in process due to Abnormal Temperature
When the internal temperature increases abnormally, it automatically starts Cooling
Down operation. Response for this status is “28” [CR].
Even if the temperature decreases during this process, Cooling Down is executed for
given time and it moves to Standby mode.
・ “02” [CR]
Status: RS-232C Commands can not be accepted.
When receiving this response, re-send the Status Read Command.
・ “24” [CR]
Status: Power Management / Cooling Down in process
When Power management function is set to ON in setting menu and no signal status
continues for 5 minutes, projector turns off the lamp(s) and enters the Power
Management/Cooling down operation. During this time, Functional Execution
Commands are invalid. The status moves to power saved mode after the given time of
Power Management / Cooling Down operation has been executed.
Status: No signal Power Management / Cooling Down Power Management

Time set by power management timer with no signal After about 90 sec.

This indicates it has moved to Power Management status as Power management

When the lamp fails to be turned on, projector automatically moves to Cooling Down
status. “21” [CR] is returned in this case.

Status: Standby after Cooling Down operation has been executed due to Lamp Failure
“81” [CR] is returned, which indicates the status is moved to Standby after completing
lamp failure operation. This status is kept until another operation is performed.

Get the temperature information inside the projector
With more than one temperature sensor installed in the projector, it is possible to
get all temperatures at once.

Temperature basic format is “_00.0”.
When the temperature goes under 0, it starts with “-“ instead of
a space like “-05.5” [CR].
When no temperature data returns due to hardware problems, it
starts with “E” like”E00.0” [CR].
The abnormal temperature operation is not processed in
Standby mode and during several tens of seconds after
powerign on, in which the temperature data is “_---“.
With more than one temperature sensor installed, the projector
returns the values in succession.

second sensor’s data.

Get Lamp Mode for the multiple-lamp projector
It is possible to get Lamp mode information for the multiple-lamp projector.
It can also get the information about the failure of lamp lighting.

The first digit indicates Lamp Mode.
0 = 4 lamps mode
1 = 2 lamps mode (Lamp No.1&4)
2 = 2 lamps mode (Lamp No.2&3)
The second digit indicates the lamp lighting status (ON or OFF).
Data consists of 4 bits, of which correspond to each lamp, and
the status are expressed in “0-9” and “A-F”.
e.g. 0 = All lamps are OFF
1 = No.1 is ON, others OFF
2 = No.2 is ON, others OFF
4 = No.3 is ON, others OFF
8 = No.4 is ON, others OFF
3 = No.1 & No.2 are ON, others OFF
5 = No.1 & No.3 are ON, others OFF
9 = No.1 & No.4 are ON, others OFF
6 = No.2 & No.3 are ON, others OFF
A = No.2 & No.4 are ON, others OFF
C = No.3 & No.4 are ON, others OFF
7 = No.1 & No.2 & No.3 are ON, the other OFF
B = No.1 & No.2 & No.4 are ON, the other OFF
