addition to being on the utilities diskette.

SMC8434BT EtherPower
2
Dual channel LAN
adapter board.

Windows NT, and SCO.

System Release Notes
BIOS
The following advisories apply when using the system
BIOS:
When booting from the optional RAID, use the
SCSISelect Utility to disable the AIC-7880 BIOS as
described in the Configuring Your System chapter of
your User’s Guide.
Pressing F2 to enter Setup after the “Press <F2> to
enter SETUP” message during boot time is only
active while the system BIOS is running, not while
the adapter BIOS (i.e., Adaptec or Mylex) is
running.
During the BIOS IDE device auto detect, BIOS
Setup does not display the attached slave (tape)
device, only the master (CD-ROM) is reported.
The SCSISelect utility is accessible as part of the
system BIOS in addition to being on the utilities
diskette. During system boot up, the following
prompt is displayed at the time the Adaptec AIC-
7860 and AIC-7880 SCSI BIOS is loaded:
Press CONTROL + A to start the SCSISelect Utility
for the appropriate SCSI BIOS.
When disabling access to the SCSISelect Utility, the
SCSISelect utility should be used in conjunction
with the BIOS Setup utility. Changing the BIOS
Setup utility “Allow SCSI Select” parameter to
Disabled prevents the use of the SCSI Select utility,
but the “Press <Ctrl-A> for SCSI Select” prompt is
still displayed. Changing the SCSISelect utility
“Display <Ctrl-A> Message During BIOS
Initialization” parameter to Disabled prevents the
prompt from being displayed. In combination these
parameters can be used to prevent access to the
SCSISelect utility during boot.

System Release Notes
NetWare
The following advisories apply when using NetWare:
When installing NetWare v4.11, edit the
STARTUP.NCF as follows:
Change “LOAD MPS14.PSM” to
“LOAD MPS14.PSM -A
When installing NetWare 4.11 on servers that use 4
GB SCSI hard drives, you might get a message that
there is no DOS partition set to active. This
message can be ignored.
IDE tape drives are not supported.
Windows NT
The following advisories apply when using Windows
NT:
When installing Windows NT with a SMC8416 LAN
card, use the driver on the Superdisk 3.0.
When using the IDE tape drive in Windows NT 4.0,
you cannot do multi-tape backup and restores.
Windows NT 3.51 requires a set of files from Service
Pack 5 BEFORE the installation can be initiated.
Windows NT 3.51 does not support IDE tape drives.

System Release Notes
SCO
The following advisories apply when installing SCO
Open Server:
IDE tape backups and restores can be done as long
as the End of Tape condition is avoided. Appends to
the tape are not supported.
When installing SCO UNIX 5.04 on a system with
an optional RAID, the Adaptec 7880 controller must
be disabled using the Resource Configuration
Utility (RCU) and the BIOS disabled using the
SCSISelect utility (both described in the
Configuring Your System chapter of your User’s
Guide). You also must use the driver on the diskette
labeled “UNIX AIC-78XX Driver v2.1”.
When configuring an SMC8416 LAN card for SCO
UNIX, in the “Search for Network Adapter” screen
answer NO to the question “Do you wish to search
for a SMC8216/8416 Adapter?” Then continue with
driver configuration.
There is a known problem with the current driver
set when adding an SMC9332BDT to a system with
a SMC8432BTA, or installing them at the same
time. The SMC8432BTA will not transmit or
receive.
When installing an SMC9332BDT and a
SMC8432BTA together in the same system, install
the SMC9332BDT first and configure it in the
operating system per the SCO Configuration Guide.
Next, power down and install the SMC8432BTA and
bring the system up and configure the second card
in the operating system.
When adding an SMC9332BDT to a system with a
SMC8432BTA already installed, you must first
remove the SMC8432BTA. Install the SMC9332BDT
and configure it in the operating system. Then re-
install the SMC8432BTA and re-configure it in your
operating system.
