Connecting Power to the Switch
Youcanconnecttoasingle,primarysourceofpower,oruptotwo
sourcesofpowerforredundancy.Theexampleusedhere
describesconnectingtotwopowersources.
Thefollowingredundantpowersuppliesareavailabletobe
purchasedfromEnterasys NetworksforconnectiontoanA4

providingpowertoafullyloadednonPoEA4switch.Use

TopowerupyourA4switch:
1. Attachthepowercordfromyourredundantpowersupply
intotheA4switch’sredundantpowerreceptacle.
2. AttachtheACpowercordtotheA4switch’sACpower
receptacle.
3. PlugtheredundantpowersupplyandtheA4switchAC
powercordsintoseparatededicated,groundedACoutlets.
4. Oncepowerisconnected,verifythattheCPU(system)LED
turnsamberuntiltheA4switchfinishesitsinitialization.Refer
toTable 1belowforstatusLEDinformation.
Iftheinitializationprocessissuccessful,theCPULEDturnsgreen.

Fan Operation on the A4H124-24
TheA4H12424fanwillturnonwhenpowerisfirstsuppliedto
theswitchandwillshutoffautomaticallyifthetemperatureis
below30°C(86°F).RefertotheEnterasysA4HardwareInstallation
GuidefortheA4H12424modelformoredetails.
Note: You can stack an A4 switch only with other A4 switches.
Electrical Hazard: Only qualified personnel should perform
installation procedures.

1. DeterminethelatestA4firmwareversionbyvisitingthe
Enterasys Networksdownloadsiteat:
https:/extranet.enterasys.com/downloads/
2. Connecttheswitchtothenetwork.
3. Connectamanagementstationtotheconsoleport.
4. Verifythatthenetworkdevicesconnectedtotheswitchports
arepoweredon,andthateachlink/activityLEDison(solid
greenorblinkinggreen).
5. StartaCLImanagementsessionontheconsoleportofthe
switchandperformthefollowing:
a. EnteradminforUsername.
b. AtthePasswordprompt,pressENTER(RETURN).
c. Atthecommandprompt,determineifthelatestfirmware
imageisloadedontheswitchbyenteringthiscommand:
show version
d. Iftheoutput(underFWVe r sion)displaysanolderversion
numberthanthatdeterminedinstep1,downloadand
activatethenewversionasdirectedonthedownload
website.(Alternatively,youcanusetheCLIcommands
