1 Notes on this document

1.1 Purpose

This document instructs technical staff to install the driver of the interface converter Com-

trol DeviceMaster Ethernet on PC. The driver is used to connect a SICK laser measuring sy-

stem LMS211/221 to the PC via Ethernet.

The following types of laser measurement system LMS211/221 have an Ethernet interface:

• LMS211-S26 (Nr. 1044296)

• LMS221-S26 (Nr. 1044297)

• LMS211-S27 (Nr. 1044298)

This document contains the following information:

• Installation or update of the driver on PC

• Configuration and test of the interface converter Comtrol DeviceMaster Ethernet

A step-by-step approach is taken for all tasks.

Important The interface converter Comtrol DeviceMaster Ethernet is named in the following simplified

"Device Master" and the PC driver for the Comtrol DeviceMaster Ethernet is named "driver".

2 Install PortVision Plus

This chapter describes the installation of PortVision Plus. The required file is located on the

LMS CD in the directory .. \Ethernet installation\PortVisionV3.02.

Double-click the file pvplus_v3.02.msi.

The pop-up window PortVision Plus Setup appears:

1. Select Next.

2. To continue with the installation, select Next.

3. Accept the license agreement and select Next.

4. To confirm the installation folder, select Next.

5. To start with the installation, select Install.

6. Close the installation with Finish.

You will now have a PortVision Plus icon on the desktop.

PortVision Connections to DeviceMaster

3 PortVision Connections to DeviceMaster

This chapter describes the connection between PortVision and DeviceMaster.

1. Connect an Ethernet patch cable from the NIC in the PC to the DeviceMaster.

If the DeviceMaster has both an UP and DOWN Ethernet port, connect the patch cable

to the DOWN port.

2. Start PortVision Plus.

The pop-up window Create Shortcuts appears.

3. Select No.

Explanation There is a problem with the WCOM-Tool once open, it blocks the COM Port.

4. Select Yes to scan the network.

PortVision Plus opens up.

Important The screenshot shows IP information that does not apply to your network.

5. Note the IP address.

The IP address must be compatible with the static IP address assigned to the PC.

6. To communicate directly with the MasterDevice, use Telnet.

4 Configure the DeviceMaster IP information

This chapter describes the configuration of the DeviceMaster.

Requirement: PortVision and DeviceMaster are connected.

1. Double-click on the DeviceMaster.

The pop-up window Configure Device: Device ... appears.

2. Modify the IP address, Subnetz Mask and Gateway address for compatibility with your

network.

Important The screenshot shows IP information that does not apply to your network.

3. Select Apply Changes.

4. Select Close.

The DeviceMaster will now reboot to set the new IP information.

5 Driver installation

This chapter describes the installation of the driver. The required file is located on the LMS

CD in the directory .. \Ethernet installation\Driver.

Important If installing multiple DeviceMasters, you may repeat the following process once for each De-

viceMaster. Once all of the DeviceMaster drivers have been installed you can then go into

DeviceManager to configure the different units. You may also decided to install the driver,

then configure the driver in DeviceManager and then install the next unit, configure, install,

configure, etc. Either method is acceptable.

Important You may not see all of the following screenshots based on the Operating System that you

are running.

1. Double-click the file csa_nslink-winxp-1.00.exe.

This will create a default directory at C:\Comtrol and extract its files to this folder.

2. Go to Control Panel and Add Hardware.

Hardware-Wizard opens up.

3. Select Next.

7. Select the type of hardware.

8. Select the Have Disk... option.

9. Enter the path of C:\Comtrol.

10. Select the correct model type..

11. Select Next to install the hardware.

12. Select Finish.

Depending on the Windows version, the New Hardware Wizard opens up.

14. Select Next.

15. Select Finish.

16. Repeat steps 2–15 to install the driver for further DeviceMaster.

6 Driver configuration

This chapter describes the configuration of the driver.

Important In DeviceManager, do not open the properties pages for multiple DeviceMasters at the

same time!

1. Go to System Properties and System.

2. Select hardware.

3. Select DeviceManager.

4. Expand MultiPortSerial Adapters.

5. Double-click the DeviceMaster.

The properties pages opens up.

6. Go to the Port Settings tab.

7. Choose COM-Port and select Properties.

The pop-up window COM5 Properties opens up.

8. Change COM port RS mode to RS422 and select OK.

9. Go to the Device Settings tab.

10. Set Keep Alive Timeout (seconds): 12.

11. Place a checkmark in the option Do NOT attempt to load firmware to device.

12. Select OK.

The pop-up window Warning appears.

13. Select Yes.

The pop-up window RpshSi appears.

14. Select Yes.

Driver configuration pages will now close.

15. Reopen the properties.

16. Go to the Network Connections tab.

17. Click the drop down arrow next to the MAC mode and select the appropriate MAC

address.

18. Select OK.

The proerties pages will close.

19. Reopen the properties page

20. Go again to the Network Connections tab.

21. Choose IP Mode and set the correct IP address.

22. Choose button Retrieve Network Addresses from the Device.

23. Go to the Advisor tab.

The summary should show Device is active and OK.

24. Select OK and test the DeviceMaster for proper operation.
