1 Product Overview
Overview
H3C S5500-SI Series Ethernet Switches (hereinafter referred to as the S5500-SI series) are Gigabit
Ethernet switching products developed by Hangzhou H3C Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred
to as H3C).
The S5500-SI series are designed as distribution or access devices for intranets and metropolitan area
networks (MANs). Supporting IPv4/IPv6 dual stack, the S5500-SI series provide abundant service
features and can also be used for connecting server groups in data centers.
The S5500-SI series include seven models, and have the system specifications as shown in
Table 1-1.

The S5500-20TP-SI is delivered with a hot-swappable power module PSR150-A by
default. You can install another PSR150-A or a PSR150-D for backup.
The other six models of the S5500-SI series switches are designed with two fixed
power receptacles respectively. The two power inputs can be simultaneously used,
acting as backup for each other. Alternatively, you can use either power input.

following two external RPS power supply units recommended by H3C to provide

S5500-20TP-SI.

The S5500-28C-SI Ethernet switch provides 24 × 10/100/1000Base-T auto-sensing Ethernet ports, four
1000 Base-X SFP ports and one console port on the front panel. The last four 10/100/1000Base-T
Ethernet ports and the four SFP ports comprise four Combo ports, with one port of a Combo port
working at a time.

panel when the switch is shipped. You can select one or two interface cards for your switch as needed.

The S5500-20TP-SI provides two power module slots on its rear panel, with only a power module
PSR150-A installed in PWR1 upon device delivery while a blank panel on PWR2. You can install a
power module, which can be PSR150-A or PSR150-D, in PWR2 to serve as a backup. For details about
PSR150-A and PSR150-D, refer to H3C PSR150-A & PSR150-D Power Modules User Manual. For
details about how to install the two power modules, refer to
Installing a Power Module.
Ports
Console Port
Each S5500-SI series provides one console port on the front panel. Table 1-2 describes the console
port specifications.

Combo Port
S5500-SI series (except S5500-20TP-SI) provides four Combo ports on its front panel. One SFP port
and the corresponding 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet port form a Combo port. For each Combo port,
either the SFP port or the corresponding 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet port can be used at a time. For
details about the combo port mapping relationship, please refer to
Table 1-5.

System Status LED
The system status LED helps you determine the working status of the switch. Refer to Table 1-7 for the
details.

Steady green The switch is started normally.
Flashing green (1 Hz) The system is performing power-on self test (POST).
Steady red POST failed.
Flashing yellow (1 Hz) POST on some ports failed.
SYS/PWR
Off The switch is powered off.
Hot Swappable Power Module Status LEDs
The hot swappable power module status LEDs help you determine the working status of a hot
swappable power module. Only the S5500-20TP-SI supports this type of LEDs. Refer to
Table 1-8 for
details.
