Before disassembling and reassembling the planer or replacing and sharpening the planer cutter, be sure
to disconnect the plug from the power supply. When disassembling and reassembling the planer, or even
in any other case, be sure to carefully handle the planer in order to prevent the bottom face of the base
from not being flat or parallel. Refer to the instruction manual for how to replace and adjust the planer
cutter.
1. Precautions on disassembly and reassembly
[Bold] numbers in the descriptions below correspond to numbers in the Parts List and exploded assembly
diagram for the Model P 20SF.
CAUTION: When disassembling the planer, be sure to first remove the planer cutter in order to
protect the tip of the cutter against damage and prevent the user from being injured.
1. Disassembly of the armature, cutter block ass’y and end bracket
Remove the Machine Screw (Black) M4 x 16 [49] and Tip Cover [31]. Then remove the Brush Cap [37]
and Carbon Brush [36]. Next, remove the two Tapping Screws (W/Flange) D4 x 12 (Black) [30] and
Bearing Cover [29]. Remove the two Machine Screws (Black) M4 x 16 [49] and Belt Cover [39], and then
remove the Belt [40]. Remove the four Tapping Screws (W/Flange) D4 x 20 (Black) [32] that secure the
End Bracket [42] to the Housing Ass’y [59], and then use a wooden hammer to strike the shaft of the
Armature [45] and the end face of the spindle of the Cutter Block Ass’y [1][18], while using the shaft of a
box spanner wrench to pull out the Armature [45] and Cutter Block Ass’y [1][18], together with the End
Bracket [42].

2. Disassembly of the stator ass’y
• After removal of the Armature [45], remove the two Tapping Screws (W/Flange) D4 x 20 (Black) [32], and
then remove the Grip Cover [51]and Handle Cover [52]. Next, cut the connector (of the internal wire
from the Cord [61], Stator Ass’y [47], and Noise Suppressor [65]) from its root.
• Remove the CB terminal of the Stator Ass’y [47] connected to the CB tube, and then remove the two Hex.
Hd. Tapping Screws D4 x 60 [53] that secure the Stator Ass’y [47] to the Housing Ass’y [59]. Next,
remove the yellow internal wire from the switch. Face the matching surface of the Housing Ass’y [59]
and End Bracket [42] downward, and then strike the surface with a wooden hammer to pull out the
Stator Ass’y [47].
3. Disassembly of pulley (A) and pulley (B)
• Remove the two Machine Screws (Black) M4 x 16
[49] that secure the Belt Cover [39] to the End
Bracket [42], and then remove the Belt Cover
[39].
• Pulley (A) [50] and Pulley (B) [41] are fixed to the
armature shaft and cutter spindle with left-hand
and right-hand screws, respectively. Remove
Pulley (A) [50] with the Armature [45] set in a vice,
by inserting the end of a spanner into the side
groove of Pulley (A) [50], and then turning the
spanner clockwise.
• Also remove Pulley (B) [41] with the cutter block
ass’y set in a vice, by inserting the end of a
spanner into the side groove of Pulley (B) [41],
and then turning the spanner counterclockwise. To
protect your hands and fingers against possible
injury, wrap the cutter block ass’y with a thick cloth
beforehand.
-3-
4. Disassembly of the front base and rear base
• Turn Knob (A) [25], Lock Nut M10 [26], and
Knob (B) [27] counterclockwise to remove the
Front Base [24]. Secure Knob (B) [27] in place
and then pull up Knob (A) [25] to remove it.
Remove the four Tapping Screws (W/Flange)
D4 x 16 (Black) [69] on the Housing Ass’y [59]
to remove the Rear Base [68].
5. Disassembly of the cutter block ass’y from the end bracket
• Set the Cutter Block Ass’y [1][18] in a vice (and be careful to avoid damage), remove Pulley (B) [41],
and then strike the front edge of the spindle of the Cutter Block Ass’y [1][18] to remove the Cutter Block
Ass’y [1][18].
-4-
Conduct reassembly by reversing the disassembly procedure. However, special attention should be given
to the following:
• When connecting the internal wire to install the handle cover, be careful to avoid causing insufficient
withstand voltage due to the internal wire being caught between the handle cover and housing.
• Machine Screw (Black) M4 x 16 [49] ---------------------------------------
1.8 ± 0.4 N•m (18 ± 4 kgf•cm)
• Hex. Socket Set Screw M5 x 8 [33] ----------------------------------------- 0.5 to 1.0 N•m (5 to 10 kgf•cm)
• Bolt M6 [9] ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10.0 to 15.0 N•m (100 to 150 kgf•cm)
• Brush Cap [37] ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.0 ± 0.5 N•m (10 ± 5 kgf•cm)
• Pulley (A) [50] --------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.0 ± 1.0 N•m (80 ± 10 kgf•cm)
• Pulley (B) [41] --------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.0 ± 1.0 N•m (80 ± 10 kgf•cm)
• Tapping Screws D4 [21] [30] [32] [53] [69]-------------------------------- 2.0 ± 0.5 N•m (20 ± 5 kgf•cm)
Connect the wires as illustrated in the figure below.
Be careful to avoid inoperative rotation or a short-circuit due to defective wiring.

Upon completing disassembly and repair, measure the insulation resistance and conduct a dielectric
strength test.
After no-load operation for 30 minutes, the no-load current values should be as follows:
