This manual provides information and procedures to safely operate
and maintain this Wacker model. For your own safety and protection
from injury, carefully read, understand and observe the safety
instructions described in this manual.
Keep this manual or a copy of it with the machine. If you lose this
manual or need an additional copy, please contact Wacker
Corporation. This machine is built with user safety in mind; however,

1.2 Laws Pertaining to Spark Arresters
Notice: State Health Safety Codes and Public Resources Codes specify that in certain locations spark arresters be
used on internal combustion engines that use hydrocarbon fuels. A spark arrester is a device designed to prevent
accidental discharge of sparks or flames from the engine exhaust. Spark arresters are qualified and rated by the United
States Forest Service for this purpose.
In order to comply with local laws regarding spark arresters, consult the engine distributor or the local Health and Safety
Administrator.
1.1 Safety Information
This manual contains DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTE callouts which must be followed to reduce the
possibility of personal injury, damage to the equipment, or improper service.
CAUTION: Used without the safety alert symbol,
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation
which, if not avoided, may result in property damage.
Note: Contains additional
information important to a procedure.
This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to
potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages
that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death.
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, will result in
death or serious injury.

1.3 Operating Safety
Familiarity and proper training are required for the safe operation of equipment! Equipment operated improperly or by
untrained personnel can be dangerous! Read the operating instructions contained in both this manual and the engine
manual and familiarize yourself with the location and proper use of all controls.
WARNING
NEVER allow improperly trained people to operate
this equipment. People operating this equipment must
be familiar with the potential risks and hazards asso-
ciated with it.
NEVER touch engine or muffler while trowel is oper-
ating or immediately after it has been turned off.
These areas get hot and may cause burns.
NEVER use accessories or attachments which are
not recommended by WACKER for this equipment.
Damage to equipment and/or injury to user may
result.
NEVER operate machine with the belt guard missing.
Exposed drive belt and pulleys create potentially
dangerous hazards that can cause serious injuries.
NEVER leave machine running unattended.
ALWAYS keep hands, feet, and loose clothing away
from moving parts of equipment.
ALWAYS wear protective clothing when operating
equipment. For instance, goggles or safety glasses
will protect eyes from damage caused by flying
debris.
ALWAYS read, understand, and follow procedures
in Operators Manual before attempting to operate
equipment.
ALWAYS be sure operator is familiar with proper
safety precautions and operation techniques before
using trowel.
ALWAYS close fuel valve on engines equipped with
one, when trowel is not being operated.
ALWAYS store equipment properly when it is not
being used. Equipment should be stored in a clean,
dry location out of the reach of children.
ALWAYS operate trowel with all safety devices and
guards in place and in working order.

1.5 Service Safety
Poorly maintained equipment can become a safety hazard! In order for the equipment to operate safely and properly
over a long period of time, periodic maintenance and occasional repairs are necessary.
DO NOT run machine indoors or in an enclosed
area unless adequate ventilation, through such
items as exhaust fans or hoses, is provided. Ex-
haust gas from the engine contains poisonous
carbon monoxide gas; exposure to carbon mon-
oxide can cause loss of consciousness and may
lead to death.
ALWAYS refill fuel tank in well-ventilated area.
ALWAYS replace fuel tank cap after refueling.
DO NOT smoke while operating trowel.
DO NOT smoke when refueling engine.
DO NOT refuel hot or running engine.
DO NOT refuel engine near open flame.
DO NOT spill fuel when refueling engine.
DO NOT operate near open flames.
1.4 Operator Safety while using Internal Combustion Engines
Internal combustion engines present special hazards during operation and fueling! Failure to follow the safety guidelines
described below could result in severe injury or death.
WARNING
DO NOT attempt to clean or service trowel while it is
running. Rotating parts can cause severe injury.
DO NOT crank a flooded engine with the spark plug
removed on gasoline-powered engines. Fuel trapped
in the cylinder will squirt out the spark plug opening.
DO NOT test for spark on gasoline-powered engines,
if engine is flooded or the smell of gasoline is present.
A stray spark could ignite fumes.
DO NOT use gasoline or other types of fuels or
flammable solvents to clean parts, especially in en-
closed areas. Fumes from fuels and solvents can
accumulate and become explosive.
ALWAYS keep area around muffler free of debris
such as leaves, paper, cartons, etc. A hot muffler
could ignite them, starting a fire.
ALWAYS replace worn or damaged components
with spare parts designed and recommended by
WACKER for servicing this machine.
ALWAYS remove or disconnect spark plug on trow-
els equipped with gasoline engines, before servicing
trowel, to avoid accidental start-up.
ALWAYS handle blades carefully. The blades can
develop sharp edges which can cause serious cuts.
ALWAYS keep machine clean and labels legible.
Replace all missing and hard-to-read labels. Labels
provide important operating instructions and warn of
dangers and hazards.

1.10 New Machine Set-up
Trowels are shipped from the factory with the handles and blades removed. Follow Sections 1.11 Installing Blades and
1.12 Installing and Adjusting Handles when setting up new machines or when installing new handles and blades.
Note: Steering handles come in two styles: a bicycle style grip or a wing grip. Assembly procedures are identical for
both styles.

1.11 Installing Blades
1. New machines are supplied with finish blades as
standard equipment. Finish blades are flat on both
edges and can be installed in either direction.
When installing combination blades, orient blades as
shown
(r). This positions the raised edges of the blade
correctly for the clockwise rotation of the machine.
2. Secure blades to trowel arms with 1-1/2" screws
(s).
Dip threads of screws in grease prior to installation.
This will prevent concrete from cementing the screws
in place and make removal of the blades easier later
on.
3. Plug the remaining threaded holes in the blade brace
with plastic plugs (t) to prevent them from filling with
concrete.

Pipe Handle:
On new machines the pipe handle comes assembled
with the pitch control
(p) and stop switch (q). To install
pipe handle assembly:
1. Pull pitch control cable from bottom end of tube and
remove nuts from cable (a).
2. Thread cable through handle base
(b) and over pulley
(c) as shown.
3. Attach pipe handle to handle base with two M8x16
screws
(d). Secure screws using Loctite 243 or an
equivalent medium-strength threadlocking compound.
Torque screws to 16 ft.lbs. (22 Nm).
4. Turn the twist pitch control handle counterclockwise
as far as possible. Connect cable to fork (h) as shown
and adjust cable nuts (i) so cable is snug and trowel
blades lay flat (0° pitch).

Steering Handle:
1. Install steering handle (j) to machine as shown. Se-
cure shoulder bolt (k) using Loctite 243, or equivalent.
2. Position throttle lever (l) on handle and fasten in place.
3. Position handle by loosening knob (m) and adjusting
handle up or down to suit operator. Tighten knob to
secure handle in position.

1.13 Application
This trowel is a modern, high production machine in-
tended for floating and finishing freshly poured concrete
slabs. Do not use this machine for any other purpose.
The machine's good balance, adjustable handle, and
easily reached controls add to operator comfort and
productivity. An automatic stop switch provides added
operator safety. Finishing rates will depend on operator
skill and job conditions.
1.16 Before Starting
Before starting trowel, check the following:
oil level in engine
oil level in gearbox
fuel level
condition of fuel lines
condition of air filter
condition of trowel arms and blades
pages 6 and 7 of manual for label descriptions
1.17 Run/Stop Switch
The run/stop switch (b) is located on the pipe handle.
When the switch is placed in the RUN position (b
1
), the
engine may be started and the trowel operated. When the
switch is placed in the STOP position (b
2
), the engine
will not run and the trowel stops.
To prevent uncontrolled spinning of the trowel, the run/
stop switch is also designed to automatically close under
certain conditions and shut off the engine. For example,
if the operator loses his/her grip on the trowel, the centrifu-
gal force created by the spinning machine will pull the
switch to the STOP position, stopping the trowel.
1.14 Recommended Fuel
The engine requires regular unleaded gasoline. Use only
fresh, clean fuel. Fuel containing water or dirt will damage
fuel system. Consult engine owners manual for complete
fuel specifications.

1.18 To Start
1. Open fuel valve (e) by rotating lever 1/4 turn.
Note: If engine is cold, move choke lever to closed
position (f
1
). If engine is hot, set choke to open
position (f

).
2. Turn engine stop switch to ON position (g

3. Shift throttle lever to slow position (a

4. Place run/stop switch into RUN position (b

5. Pull starter rope (h).
Note: Some engines are equipped with an oil alert
light in the start switch. If the oil level is too low, the
switch light will flicker and the engine will not start.
Replenish oil supply before attempting to start engine.
6. After engine starts, leave throttle in slow position (a

and allow engine to warm up.
7. Open choke when engine is warm (f

).
CAUTION: Do not operate engine with choke lever
in partial CHOKE position. Excessive speeds may
occur.
8. Open throttle (a

) to operate trowel. Adjust blade RPM
with throttle speed to suit conditions.

1.20 Operation
Choose desired blade type and attach blades to trowel
arms. See Section 1.11 Installing Blades.
Do not mix float or finish blades with combination blades.
Each blade type has a different width and if used in
combination will cause erratic machine performance.
Note: When operating on soft concrete, do not let trowel
stand in one spot too long. Always lift trowel from slab
when operation is complete. See Section 1.35 Lifting.
Note: “Left” and “Right” references are made from the
operator's position.
1. Adjust the handle height to suit the operator. See
Section 1.12 Installing and Adjusting Handles. Always
keep both hands on the steering handle
when operating the trowel.
2. Start engine and engage blades by increasing engine
speed. Set speed with throttle control on steering
handle to appropriate speed for job conditions. Use
slower speed for initial work (floating) and higher
speed for finishing (burnishing).
3. To move the trowel forward, twist the handle clock-
wise (a).
4. To move backward, twist the handle counter-
clockwise (b).
5. To move the trowel to the left, lift up slightly on the
handle (c).

7. Clean trowel after each use to remove concrete
splatter.
It is recommended that each set of work passes be at 90°
to the previous set of work passes. This will help prevent
the creation of valleys in the slab surface.
For example, in the illustration opposite, the second set
of work passes (2) is 90° to the first set of work passes
(1).

1.22 Edger Guard Adjustment
To adjust the optional edger guard, loosen wingnut(s) (f)
and slide guard to desired position, then re-tighten
wingnut(s). When not using edger feature, adjust edger
guard to its lowest position.
WARNING
Do not attempt to adjust edger guard while engine is
running or blades are spinning. Rotating blades can
cause severe injury.

additional information on engine maintenance.
Check fuel level.

1.24 Engine Oil
Drain oil while engine is still warm.
1. Remove oil drain plug (c) and drain oil.
Note: In the interests of environmental protection, place
a plastic sheet and a container under the machine to
collect any liquid which drains off. Dispose of this liquid
in accordance with environmental protection legislation.
2. Re-install drain plug.
3. To add oil, do one of the following:
Remove dipstick (a) and add oil through filler tube. Fill
to full mark on dipstick.
or
Remove filler plug (b) and fill engine crankcase through
oil filler opening with recommended oil, up to level of
plug opening (d).
Oil capacity: 44 oz. (1.3 liters).
4. When full, re-install filler plug or dipstick.
