WateringressTheproductissuitableformountingbothaboveandbelowdecks.Although
theunitiswaterproof,itisgoodpracticetolocateitinaprotectedareaawayfromprolongedand

(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnotcompromised.

Note:InareasofextremeEMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybenoticedonthe
product.Wherethisoccurstheproductandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbeseparated
byagreaterdistance.

spread20degreesaboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.

topreventerraticbehavioranddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnothavea
separatebattery.

GNSS(GPS),AISorVHFdevices,iftheexternalequipmentisnotadequatelyinsulatedandemits
excessivelevelsofelectromagneticinterference(EMI).
SomecommonexamplesofsuchexternalequipmentincludeLEDspotorstriplights,andterrestrial
TVtuners.
Tominimizeinterferencefromsuchequipment:
KeepitasfarawayfromGNSS(GPS),AISorVHFdevicesaspossible.
Ensurethatanypowercablesforexternalequipmentarenotentangledwiththepowerordata
cablesforthesedevices.
ConsiderfittingoneormorehighfrequencysuppressionferritestotheEMI-emittingdevice.The
ferrite(s)shouldberatedtobeeffectiveintherange100MHzto2.5GHz,andshouldbefitted
tothepowercableandanyothercablesexitingtheEMI-emittingdevice,ascloseaspossibleto
thepositionwherethecableexitsthedevice.
Compasssafedistance
Topreventpotentialinterferencewiththevessel'smagneticcompasses,ensureanadequate
distanceismaintainedfromtheproduct.
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationfortheproductyoushouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossible
distancefromanycompasses.Typicallythisdistanceshouldbeatleast1m(3ft)inalldirections.
Howeverforsomesmallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletolocatetheproductthisfarawayfroma
compass.Inthissituation,whenchoosingtheinstallationlocationforyourproduct,ensurethatthe
compassisnotaffectedbytheproductwhenitisinapoweredstate.
GNSS(GPS)locationrequirements
Y ourproductincludesabuilt-inGNSS(GPS)receiverthat,inordertoobtainapositionfix,requires
connectionofanexternalpassiveantenna,suchastheGA150antenna.
Ensureyoufollowthelocationrequirementsspecifiedinyourexternalantenna’sinstallation
instructions.

Touchscreenlocationrequirements
Note:
Touchscreenperformancecanbeaffectedbytheinstallationenvironment,specifically
Touchscreendisplaysinstalledabovedecks,whereitwillbeopentotheelementsmayexhibitthe
following:
HotT ouchscreentemperatureIfthedisplayismountedwhereitwillbeexposedtoprolonged
periodsofdirectsunlight,thetouchscreenmaybecomehot.
ErroneousTouchscreenperformanceExposuretoprolongedrainand/orwaterwashover
maycausethedisplaytorespondto‘falsetouches,causedbytherain/waterhittingthescreen.
If,duetotherequiredinstallationlocation,exposuretotheseelementsisanticipatedthenit
isrecommendedthatyouconsider:
InstallingaremotekeypadsuchastheRMK-10andoperatingthedisplayremotelyT ouch-only
displays.
LockingtheT ouchscreenandusingthephysicalbuttonsinsteadHybridT ouchdisplays.
Attachingathird-party‘displayhoodaccessory’toreducedirectsunlightexposureandthe
volumeofwaterthatthedisplayisexposedto.
Wirelesslocationrequirements
Anumberoffactorscaninfluencewirelessperformance,itisimportanttoensureyoutestthe
connectionperformance,atthedesiredlocationbeforeinstallingwirelessenabledproducts.
Distance
Thedistancebetweenwirelessproductsshouldalwaysbekepttoaminimum.Donotexceedthe
maximumstatedrangeofyourwirelessproduct(Maximumrangewillvaryforeachdevice).
Wirelessperformancedegradesoverdistance,soproductsfartherawaywillreceivelessnetwork
bandwidth.Productsinstalledclosetotheirmaximumwirelessrangemayexperienceslow
connectionspeeds,signaldropoutsornotbeingabletoconnectatall.
Lineofsight
Forbestresultsthewirelessproductshouldhaveaclear,directlineofsighttotheproductitwillbe
connectedto.Anyphysicalobstructionscandegradeorevenblockthewirelesssignal.
Theconstructionofyourvesselcanalsohaveanimpactonwirelessperformance.Forexample,
metalstructuralbulkheadsandroofingwillreduceandincertainsituations,blockthewirelesssignal.
Ifthewirelesssignalpassesthroughabulkheadcontainingpowercablesthiscanalsodegrade
wirelessperformance.
Reflectivesurfacessuchasmetalsurfaces,sometypesofglassandevenmirrorscandrastically
effectperformanceorevenblockthewirelesssignal.
Interferenceandotherequipment
Wirelessproductsshouldbeinstalledatleast1m(3ft)awayfrom:
Otherwirelessenabledproducts.
Transmittingproductsthatsendwirelesssignalsinthesamefrequencyrange.
Otherelectrical,electronicorelectromagneticequipmentthatmaygenerateinterference.
Interferencefromotherpeopleswirelessdevicescanalsocauseinterferencewithyourproducts.
Y oucanuseathirdpartywirelessanalyzertool/smartphoneapptoassessthebestwirelesschannel
(channelnotinuseorusedbyleastamountofdevices)foryoutouse.
Viewingangleconsiderations
Asdisplaycontrastandcolorareaffectedbytheviewingangle,Itisrecommendedthatyou
temporarilypowerupthedisplay,priortoinstallation,toenableyoutobestjudgewhichlocation
providestheoptimumviewingangle.
