Quick Start

1) Set up main unit by installing 4 AA batteries in the back of the main unit and close cover.

2) Plug the AC adaptor into an electrical outlet and the DC 9 volt plug into the back of the main unit.

3) Insert 2 AA batteries in the bottom of the remote unit and close cover.

4) The LCD on the remote should show current temperature. In a few minutes the remote  

 temperature will be displayed in the outside temperature field of the main unit LCD. If at least 10 

 minutes have passed and the outside temperature field displays "- -" instead of the remote  

 unit's temperature see the LOSING SYNCHRONIZATION section.

5) Once you have successfully synched up the main unit with the remote you can put the remote 

 unit outside as close to the main unit as possible to ensure strong reception of the remote's signal. 

 The main unit and remote are designed to work 100 feet apart without any obstacles to interfere 

 with the signal. The remote should be placed where it will not experience the extremes of  

 weather such as: rain, snow, direct sunlight etc. This will give you more accurate outside

 temperature readings and weather forecasting.

6) The main unit and remote need to be acclimated to the local area and altitude. This process take a 

 few days. Please note your initial weather forecasting will not be accurate.

7) Setting the calendar: Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to CALENDAR. Press 

 the HR/MONTH button until the flashing month is current. Press the MIN/DATE button until the 

 flashing date is current. Press the 12/24 HR/YEAR button until the flashing year is current.

8) Setting the time: Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to TIME SET. Press the  

 HR/MONTH button until the flashing hour is current. Press the MIN/DATE button until the flashing 

 minute is current. Press the 12/24 HR/YEAR button to change from 12 hour clock to 24 hour clock.

9) Setting the alarm time: Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to ALM SET. Press the 

 HR/MONTH button until the flashing hour is the hour you want. Press the MIN/DATE button until 

 the flashing minute is the minute you want. Press the 12/24 HR/YEAR button to change from 12 

 hour clock to 24 hour clock. Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to LOCK.

Congratulations on your purchase of the Model CL-116 Alarm Clock Radio with Weather & Message

Center. Your new Alarm Clock has many unique features to keep you informed on the time, the local

weather and anything you need to remember at the start of your day. When the alarm is set in voice

mode and goes off it will wake you up to a "Good Morning" announcement, "the time is 7:30 AM", "the

temperature outside is 73.1 degrees", "the weather is going to be partly cloudy" plus all of your

previously recorded messages.

Buttons hidden under panel

Synchronization of Remote Unit with Main Unit

1. Set up main unit by installing 4 AA batteries in the back of the main unit and close cover. Also plug 

 the AC adaptor into an electrical outlet and the DC 9 volt plug into the back of the main unit.

2. Insert 2 AA batteries in the bottom of the remote unit and close cover.

3. The LCD on the remote should show current temperature. In a few minutes the remote temperature 

 will be displayed in the outside temperature field of the main unit LCD. If at least 10 minutes have 

 passed and the outside temperature field displays "- -" instead of the remote unit's temperature see 

 the LOSING SYNCHRONIZATION section.

4.Once you have successfully synched up the main unit with the remote you can put the remote unit 

 outside as close to the main unit as possible to ensure strong reception of the remote's signal. The 

 main unit and remote are designed to work 100 feet apart without any obstacles to interfere with 

 the signal. Once the remote's signal must pass through walls and windows the range is reduced 

 significantly. The remote comes with a mounting bracket if the best placement of the remote  

 requires mounting. The remote should be placed where it will not experience the extremes of 

 weather such as: rain, snow, direct sunlight etc. This will give you more accurate outside temperature 

 readings and weather forecasting.

Setting the calendar

1. Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to CALENDAR.

2. Press the HR/MONTH button until the flashing month is current.

3. Press the MIN/DATE button until the flashing date is current.

4. Press the 12/24 HR/YEAR button until the flashing year is current.

Setting the time

1. Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to TIME SET.

2. Press the HR/MONTH button until the flashing hour is current.

3. Press the MIN/DATE button until the flashing minute is current.

4. Press the 12/24 HR/YEAR button to change from 12 hour clock to 24 hour clock.

Setting the alarm time

1. Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to ALM SET.

2. Press the HR/MONTH button until the flashing hour is the hour you want.

3. Press the MIN/DATE button until the flashing minute is the minute you want.

4. Press the 12/24 HR/YEAR button to change from 12 hour clock to 24 hour clock.

5. Slide the LOCK /ALM SET/TIME SET/CALENDAR switch to LOCK.

Radio operation

1. Extend the antenna out the full length for best reception.

2. Press RADIO ON-OFF button to turn on the radio.

3. Press BAND AM/FM button to change between AM and FM frequencies.

4. Press either the TUNING or to manually tune up or down.

5. Press & hold for 2 seconds either the TUNING or to automatically tune up or down. The tuner 

 will search for the next station and then stop once it finds it.

6. Turn the VOLUME knob clockwise to increase the volume or counterclockwise to decrease the 

 volume.

Presetting Stations

1. Press RADIO ON-OFF button to turn on the radio.

2. Press PRESET button until desired preset number is displayed (1-15). The unit allows you to preset 

 15 AM stations and 15 FM stations.

3. Tune in desired station.

4. Press MEMORY SET button. The preset # and icon will flash.

5. Then press MEMORY SET again to store the station.

6. Repeat steps 2-5 to store more stations.

7. Once PRESET stations are stored just press PRESET to change station.

Sleep Mode

1. The radio can be turned off automatically after a set amount of time. With the radio already on, 

 press and hold SLEEP button for 2 seconds. The radio will go off, "90" will appear where the station 

 frequency was displayed and SLEEP & MINS will flash. If you don't press SLEEP again and the radio 

 comes back on the SLEEP mode is set. The radio will go off automatically after 90 minutes.

2. You can reduce the amount of sleep time in 10 minute increments while SLEEP & MINS are flashing 

 by quickly pressing the SLEEP button again.

3. To eliminate the SLEEP mode press the SLEEP button until "00" appears. The radio will no longer go 

 off automatically.

4. In the SLEEP mode, the radio will be turned off automatically any time the radio is turned on  

 manually.

Voice messages

1. Press and hold REC button. Wait for beep and record message by speaking clearly into the  

 microphone above the LCD from approx. 15 inches away. The VOICE MEMO icon display increases by 

 1. Stop pressing the REC button to end message. Unit will beep again. You can record up to 8 - 6 

 second messages. Unit will double beep and end your recording if your message is longer than 6 

 seconds.

2. If you try to record a 9th message the unit will double beep and the VOICE MEMO icon will display 

 an "F" indicating full.

3. To PLAY voice messages press < BACKWARD > FORWARD buttons to display the number of the 

 message you want to play. Press PLAY button to listen to specific message. If you press play while 

 the radio is on the radio will shut off while the messages are playing. Once messages are done 

 playing the radio will come back on.

4. To ERASE voice messages press < BACKWARD > FORWARD buttons to display the number of the 

 message you want to erase. Press ERASE button to erase that number message only. All messages 

 numbers higher then the number message you erased will be reduced by 1.

Note: All messages are automatically erased 24 hours after message was recorded.

Weather Forecast

The outside remote unit measures temperature. It transmits this information to the main unit every 3

minutes. The main unit measures atmospheric pressure and needs 24 hours of continuous change in

atmospheric pressure data to obtain a weather forecast and it's tendency. After 24 hours of

computation the unit can forecast the weather for the next 6 hours. To obtain a reliable forecast do

not relocate the main unit while in operation.

If after several days the unit does not accurately forecast the weather, then reset the unit on a partly

cloudy day. Resetting the unit on a partly cloudy day allows the unit to automatically recalibrate the

pressure sensitivity during median atmospheric pressure conditions and will improve the unit's ability

to compute this data and accurately forecast the weather in the future.

Weather tendency is indicated by an Up ( ) or Down ( ) Arrow. Up Arrow indicates a

significant increase in atmospheric pressure which normally means the weather is going to be better.

Down Arrow indicates a significant decrease in atmospheric pressure which means the weather

is going to be worse.

indicates a steady / insignificant change of atmospheric pressure. Which means the weather is

going to be unchanged.

The weather conditions normally displayed will be Sunny , Partly Cloudy, Cloudy and Rainy.

Stormy conditions will be displayed when a sudden and serious drop in atmospheric pressure is

measured.

The forecasted weather is displayed by the animated icons below:

Temperature Display

The remote unit has a °C /°F button in the bottom to change the remote unit LCD from Celsius to

Fahrenheit.

The main unit has a °C /°F button to change the main unit IN TEMP & OUT TEMP fields from Celsius to

Fahrenheit.

The remote unit temperature can be displayed in a different temperature scale then the main unit.

If a temperature is measured outside the measurable temperature range the IN TEMP or OUT TEMP will

display "LO" or "HI" depending if the temperature is too low or high.

Tendency-Up Tendency-Down Tendency- Steady

The main unit records the maximum and minimum inside and outside temperatures the unit has

received. Press TEMP/MAX/MIN button to display the inside temperature MAX and MIN temperatures.

Press TEMP/MAX/MIN button again to display the outside temperature MAX and MIN temperatures.

The normal display will be restored in 5 seconds if button is not pressed again. Pressing the CLEAR

button while the MAX & MIN temperatures are displayed will clear the data.

Losing Synchronization

If after 10 minutes on the initial start up "- -" is displayed then you have not successfully synched the

remote unit with the main unit so the main unit is not receiving data from the remote unit. Retry

synching the main unit with the remote unit by placing the remote unit within a few feet of the main

unit, press the RE-SYNC button on the main unit and then press RESET button of remote unit. The

SIGNAL DETECTING icon will flash as the main unit is searching for the remote unit's signal. It usually

will take a few minutes for the main unit to acquire the remote unit's signal. Once you have

successfully synched up the main unit with the remote you can put the remote unit outside as close to

the main unit as possible to ensure strong reception of the remote's signal. The main unit and remote

are designed to work 100 feet apart without any obstacles to interfere with the signal. Once the

remote's signal must pass through walls and windows the range is reduced significantly. The remote

comes with a mounting bracket if the best placement of the remote requires mounting. The remote

should be placed where it will not experience the extremes of weather such as: rain, snow, direct

sunlight etc. This will give you more accurate outside temperature readings and weather forecasting.

If during the course of normal use and without obvious reasons the outside temperature display on

the main unit displays "- -" which indicates a loss of signal from the remote unit check the following:

Is the LOW BATTERY icon on the remote unit displayed? If so replace the batteries.

Is the remote unit still in place?

Is the transmission distance within range and is it clear of obstacles?

Is there interference from another radio frequency device. The remote unit transmits at 433 Mhz and

signals from other household products such as garage door openers, door bells and home security

systems may interfere with the data transmission which can cause temporary reception failure. This is

normal and does not affect the general performance of the unit. The transmission and reception of the

data will resume once the interference has stopped.

To check the status of the reception of the remote unit look at the icon in the upper right hand corner

of the outside temperature field:

Resetting the unit

Press the RESET button of either the main unit or the remote unit when either does not operate

normally.

Temperature sensing backlight

The main unit LCD has an Always-On backlight if the AC/DC adaptor is plugged in. The backlight color

will change depending on the outside temperature. It will be:

Blue: If out side temp is below 50°F or 10°C

Amber: If outside temp is 50.1°F - 75°F or 10.1°C - 23.9°C

Red: If out side temp is above 75°F or 24°C

NOTE: If you do not use the AC/DC adaptor you can press the large ALARM STOP/TALKING/LIGHT

button to turn on the backlight for 3 seconds.

Talking Clock

To hear the current time, outside temperature and the weather forecast press the large ALARM

STOP/TALKING/LIGHT on the base. If you press play while the radio is on the radio will shut off while

the messages are playing. Once messages are done playing the radio will come back on

To wake up with full voice alarm, set the alarm time, record your messages and slide the

OFF/BEEP/VOICE switch to VOICE. When the alarm signals at your wake up time the unit will beep for 5

seconds and then the unit will voice announce all of the following:

"Good Morning", "Good Afternoon" or "Good Evening"

the time is ....

the temperature outside is .....

the weather is .....

all of your previously recorded messages

finally it will turn the radio on for 1 hour. To stop the alarm, press the large ALARM

STOP/TALKING/LIGHT button. If the radio has turned on you need to press the radio on-off button to

shut the radio off.

If no outside temperature is displayed the unit will skip the outside temperature announcement.

If no messages are recorded the unit will skip the message announcements.

To wake up with beeping snooze alarm only set the alarm time and slide the OFF/BEEP/VOICE switch

to BEEP. When the alarm signals the unit will beep for 1 minute and then shut off for 5 minutes. Then it

will repeat the 1 minute beep every 5 minutes until the OFF/BEEP/VOICE switch is switched to OFF.

Pressing the ALARM STOP/TALKING/LIGHT large button only stops the 1 minute beep. The snooze

feature is still active and the unit will beep 3 more times for 1 minute every 5 minutes.

Warning: Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for 

  compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

Cautions

• Avoid exposing your wireless remote unit to extreme temperatures, water or severe shock.

• Do not put the unit in conditions of excessive force, shock, dust, extreme temperature or  

 humidity. Any of these conditions may shorten the lift of the clock.

• Do not tamper with any of the internal components of the unit. This will invalidate the warranty 

 under the above condition.

• Use only fresh batteries. Mixing old and new batteries may cause battery leakage.

• Battery life in the remote will be greatly reduced in temperatures below 14*F and the remote will 

 stop functioning in temperatures below 0°F. Once the temperature goes back above 0°F the unit will 

 function properly again.

NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device,

pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection

against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can

radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may

cause harmful interference to radio communications.

However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this

equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined

by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one

or more of the following measures:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.

• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is  

 connected.

• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

Under the environment with radio frequency interference, the unit (Both mainly unit & Remote may

malfunction and require user to RESET the unit.

workmanship for a period of one year, from date of purchase. Should any repairs or servicing under
