3 MOS Sensors – Compared to 3CCD
CCD = Charged Coupled Device – The conventional Image sensor
used in most camcorders.
MOS = Metal Oxide Sensor – This type of sensor gives better
performance in low light conditions such as indoor shooting. The
picture noise levels are lower resulting in less picture grain.
Generally - MOS Sensors use slightly less power than CCD Sensors
giving improved battery life.
Manual Focus Ring
When the camera is set to “Manual Focus” focussing can be
adjusted using a rotating ring around the front of the lens barrel,
giving a similar feel to the manual focus on professional cameras.
The focussing ring can also be used to adjust other manual
settings such as the white balance, shutter speed and iris setting.
Manual Operation Switch and button
When used in conjunction with the manual Focus Ring, the Manual
Operation Switch and camera function button makes Manual
operation of the camera quick and simple to adjust the settings.
This level of control is usually found on professional and Semi-
Professional type camcorders.
Electronic Viewfinder
This is the only model in the SD & HDD range of camcorders to
have and electronic viewfinder as well as an LCD Screen. This is
very useful when shooting in a bright environment such as
outdoors on a sunny day, where you would struggle to see the
image on an LCD display.

Improved iA – Face detection
Face Detection AE/AF
Face Detection automatically adjusts the exposure according to the
ambient brightness, so faces are bright and easy to see.
Faces in the centre of the frame serve as the reference for adjustments,
but the function can detect up to 15 faces in all. HS9 & SD9 can detect
up to 5 faces in total
Accessory Shoe – (Cold Shoe)

z Microphone Input
Semi-Professional users will quite often want to connect an external

from the majority of more recent camcorders.
Headphone Socket
Semi-Professional users will quite often want to monitor the sound
being recorded on headphones. This model is fitted with a Stereo
Headphone Jack for this purpose.
