Warning
The equipment is intended to be installed by Service Personnel and only handled by qualified person-
nel. If not, the device may be damaged and malfunction.
This device contains elements that are sensitive to electrostatic surges and shocks. Therefore, it is es-
sential when handling the equipment that an antistatic wriststrap is connected to the device chassis and
that this is placed on an antistatic mat. Furthermore, it is crucial to avoid any kind of contact between
the device components and necklaces, bracelets, rings, ties etc.

Chapter 1 Installing the Router
1.1 Introduction
The Teldat C1+L router is a general purpose router with a wide application area: personal environments, SOHO/
SME and corporative, covering access needs using ADSL, ADSL2+ (over PSTN) and 3G access thanks to the USB
interface where 3G USB modems can be connected. As for local area networks (LAN), it incorporates both a 4 port
Ethernet LAN Switch and an integrated Wireless LAN module.
The Teldat C1+L router is perfectly adaptable to a wide variety of IP scenarios: from providing simultaneous access
to Internet for private LAN users and/or for the corporation through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to the adaptation
of teleprocess networks and SNA support. The most common applications are as follows:

1.2 Connections
Caution
Before connecting the router, please read the following instructions carefully.
Workplace Conditions. Main Characteristics
Excessive cold and heat should be avoided, as should humidity and dust.
Direct exposure to sunlight should be avoided as well as other heat sources. The device should not be placed
amongst papers, magazines or other elements that could hinder natural air circulation.
The device should not be placed very close to strong electromagnetic fields such as speakers, engines, etc.
Knocks and/or strong vibrations should be avoided during transport, operation and storage.
Warning
The electric current in power cables, telephone lines and communication cables is dangerous. To pre-
vent electric shocks, before installing, handling or opening the equipment covers, connect and discon-
nect the cables as follows:

the main electricity supply or the device

1.2.1 Power Source Connection
The Teldat C1+L router is powered with an external AC/DC source.
To avoid electric shocks, residual current circulation and other unwanted effects, also affecting communications, the
following is recommended:
Warning
All interconnected communication devices should be plugged to THE SAME GROUNDED POWER
OUTLET, which should at the same time be of good quality (lower than 10 ohms).
Whether the workplace is provided with an uninterrupted power supply system (UPS), regulated supply
or it is independent from the rest (such as lighting, etc.); it is highly recommended that all data devices
should be connected to the same power source. This will avoid operating and premature aging prob-
lems of drivers and other components.

To connect the power source to the device, follow the steps listed in the earlier table: ensure that the switch is OFF
(0) and the power supply is NOT connected to the main electricity supply; find the 12 V DC connector, which is loc-
ated on the rear panel of the device, and plug it into the power source.
1.2.2 Data Connections
The Teldat C1+L router has the following available connectors:
1.2.2.1 4 port Ethernet Switch (connectors LAN1..4)
The Teldat C1+L router has a 410/100BaseT switch incorporated with an automatic MDI/MDIX to connect to the loc-
al area network (LAN).
Please pay close attention to the labeling. This is important in order to avoid mixing up the switch with other types of
ports.

1.2.2.2 ADSL/ADSL2+ connection over PSTN (DSL connector)
The Teldat C1+L router has a DSL connector to connect to an ADSL/ASDL2+ network over PSTN. This is a female
RJ11 connector with 4 wires. The central pair is used for data transmission/reception.
For connection, you can use the telephone cable with male RJ11connectors that are provided with the device.

The splitter
The Full Rate ADSL (ITU G.dmt or G.922.1) operating mode uses a higher transmission capacity that does not allow
the use of telephones directly connected to the same line; it is necessary to use a mechanism known as “splitter”,
which separates the band frequencies for voice telephony from those used for the ADSL connection to transmit data.
This way, interferences between the telephone service and ADSL service are avoided (and vice-versa).
A typical installation with a splitter is shown in Fig. 7 on page 6 .

The micro-filters
The G. Lite (ITU G.922.2) operating mode uses reduced transmission power which allows the use of telephones dir-
ectly connected to the same line by using a device known as a “micro-filter”. This device ensures that the ADSL sig-
nal does not reach the telephone and that undesired signals generated by the telephone do not interfere with the AD-
SL signal.
A typical installation with micro-filters is shown in Fig. 8 on page 6 .

1.2.2.3 Wireless LAN connection (ANT connectors)
The Teldat C1+L router has two RF antenna connectors to connect an external antenna to improve the quality of the
signal received and transmitted by the Wireless LAN module. This module is internal and can be activated by pur-
chasing the corresponding software license. To assemble and disassemble the antennas provided with the device,
just screw them into the connectors, labeled ANT, which are located on the rear of the device.

1.2.2.4 Connecting a 3G USB device (USB connector)
The Teldat C1+L router has a USB HOST 2.0 Type A connector interface which allows 3G USB modems to be con-
nected. The interface can be activated by purchasing the corresponding software license.

1.2.3 Configuration Connection
1.2.3.1 Configuration using a local console (CONF connector)
The Teldat C1+L router has a female RJ45 connector on the rear panel labeled as “Conf., which provides access to
the devices local console. For configuration, you must connect the “Conf.” port to an asynchronous terminal (or to a
PC with terminal emulation).

Note
The configuration of the terminal must be:
- Speed: 9600 bps.
- Eight data bits.
- One stop bit.
- No bit parity.
- No type of flow control.
Connection to the configuration port can be carried out with RJ45 cable connectors provided with the device, togeth-
er with the Female RJ45-Female DB9 adapter.
Note
The Female RJ45-Female DB9 adapter isn’t provided with the device, it is supplied separately.

1.2.3.2 Configuration using an IP terminal (connectors LAN1..4)
The Teldat C1+L router includes a default configuration that activates if the device has not been previous configured
or if the “Procedure to establish the default configuration” has been executed (this is explained further on in this
manual).
The routers default configuration establishes the following IP address and the access mask:
IP address: 192.168.1.1
IP mask: 255.255.255.0
Note
Some devices leave the factory with a customized configuration for a specific client. This personaliza-
tion can mean that the default configuration can be different from the one shown above.

This initial configuration allows you to access the device configuration console through the Telnet IP protocol. To do
this, carry out the following steps:
Configure the IP terminal Ethernet interface (normally a PC) with IP address in the range of [192.168.1.2,
192.168.1.254] and mask 255.255.255.0. E.g. 192.168.1.2, 255.255.255.0.
Connect the IP terminal Ethernet interface to any of the Teldat C1+L router Ethernet Switch ports (connectors LAN
1..4) through the Ethernet cable (RJ45) supplied with the device.
Start a Telnet session from the IP terminal towards IP address 192.168.1.1 ( Teldat C1+L router default address).
The default configuration does not request access credentials (user/password) to access the console.
For further information on how to fully configure the device, please see the manuals included on the CD supplied with
the Teldat C1+L router.
1.3 Meaning of the LEDs

ON Power-on indicator, It lights when connected to the power. .
LAN1..4 LAN Ethernet Switch:
OFF: The link hasn’t established in this port.
GREEN: A link has established in this port.
Intermittent Traffic in the port.
DSL DSL Interface:
SLOW FLASHING: The link hasnt established.
FAST FLASHING: The link is being established.
GREEN: The link has established.
WLAN WLAN Interface:
OFF: No data in the interface.
GREEN: Intermittent Traffic in the interface.
1.4 RST Pushbutton
The Teldat C1+L router has a pushbutton labeled RST that allows you to ignore the current configuration and estab-
lish the default configuration.
The RST pushbutton is located on the rear of the Teldat C1+L router. It is protected in such a way that it’s only ac-
cessible from the outside of the device by using something with a sharp end to press it.

The user should only operate the pushbutton when it is necessary to ignore the current configuration and establish
the default configuration. This forces start up in either BOOT mode (allowing to update from BOOT), or in BIOS
mode (in order to relicense and delete the configuration files).
1.4.1 Procedure to ignore the current configuration and to establish the default
configuration
These steps should only be carried out when it is necessary to reject the whole configuration of the device (for in-
stance, if you forget the password):
Turn off the device through the ON/OFF switch.
Using a sharp object, press the RST pushbutton and hold it down.
Turn the device on with the ON/OFF switch.
Wait until the WLAN LED begins to flash (see Fig. 15 on page 10 ) and release the RST pushbutton.

Once the pushbutton has been released, the WLAN LED turns off and the process to boot the device with the de-
fault configuration begins.
Note
When the RST pushbutton is released, a message similar to the one shown below will appear on the
configuration console.

This process does not automatically delete the previously stored configuration. The latter is just ignored and the de-
fault configuration appears in its place.
1.4.2 Procedure to force start up in BOOT mode
This procedure is applied if you need to force the device to start up in BOOT mode in order to load/upgrade the C.I.T.
image from BOOT. For further information on how to do this in BOOT mode, please see the manual on software up-
grading (Dm748-I).
The procedure to force start up in BOOT mode is as follows:
Turn off the device through the ON/OFF switch.
Using a sharp object, press the RST pushbutton and hold it down.
Turn on the device with the ON/OFF switch.
Wait until the WLAN LED begins to flash (see Fig. 16 on page 11 ). Keep the RST pushbutton held down.

After about 15 seconds, the WLAN LED goes out and the DSL LED lights up (see Fig. 17 on page 12); keep the
pushbutton held down.

After about 3 seconds, the WLAN LED lights up, this time it’s steady i.e. not flashing (see Fig. 18 on page 12 ) and
the DSL goes out. Release the reset button at this point.

Wait for a few seconds until the device completes start up. If you have a local console connected to the CONF.
port, you can see that the device has applied the default parameters from the BOOT configuration and has paused
start up in the BOOT menu (CFE> prompt):

It’s also possible to access the BOOT menu without using the RST button if you have access to the devices local
console. Simply press any key via the console during the start up process when the following text appears: “*** Press
any key to stop auto run (x seconds) ***”, and before the indicated seconds run out. In this way the C.I.T. start up
cancels and the device pauses in the BOOT prompt: “CFE>. From this menu, you can access all the BOOT menu
commands. Below you can see an example of a C1+L start up:

1.4.3 Procedure to force start up in BIOS mode
Follow the steps below if you want to force device start up in BIOS mode. This will allow you to access the BIOS
menu, and relicense or delete the configuration files and the rest of the command from there.
The procedure to force start up in BIOS mode is as follows:
Turn off the device through the ON/OFF switch.
Using a sharp object, press the RST pushbutton and hold it down.
Turn on the device with the ON/OFF switch.
Wait until the WLAN LED begins to flash (see Fig. 19 on page 13). Keep the RST pushbutton held down.

After about 15 seconds, the WLAN LED goes out and the DSL LED lights up (see Fig. 20 on page 14 ); at this point
release the reset button.

It’s also possible to access the BIOS menu without using the RST button if you have access to the devices local
