Usage recommendations
Do not operate the ice.net modem:
In areas where blasting is in progress
Where explosive atmospheres may be present
Near medical equipment
Near life support equipment, or any equipment that may be susceptible to any form of radio
interference. In such areas, the ice.net modem MUST BE POWERED OFF. The ice.net
modem can transmit signals that could interfere with this equipment.
Do not operate the ice.net modem in any aircraft, whether the aircraft is on the ground or in flight. In
aircraft, the ice.net modem MUST BE POWERED OFF. When operating, the ice.net modem can
transmit signals that could interfere with various onboard systems.
Note: Some airlines may permit the use of cellular phones while the aircraft is on the ground and the
door is open. The ice.net modem may be used at this time.
The driver or operator of any vehicle should not operate the ice.net modem while in control of a vehicle.
Doing so will detract from the driver or operator’s control and operation of that vehicle. In some states
and provinces, operating such communications devices while in control of a vehicle is an offence.
Besides this the following recommendations apply:
The ice.net modem generates radio frequency (RF) energy while in operation and If not
installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause interference to radio
communication.
Use an antenna approved by ice.net, otherwise it may cause damage to the modem and void
any warranty.
Use the modem in the manner you would use a notebook PC in general.
Position the antenna upright and avoid touching it during operation. Touching the antenna may
degrade the performance of the modem and may cause excessive power consumption.
Be cautious as the radio frequency (RF) energy may affect the electronic devices installed in a
car.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits pursuant to US FCC rule
Parts 22H/24E, these limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against interference
in an appropriate installation. However there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in
a particular installation.
Beware of environments where use of cell phones and wireless modems are prohibited.
Use of D-50 Modem while running a notebook PC with a battery may cause earlier exhaustion
of the battery than usual due to additional consumption of electric currents.
Call the service center designated by ice.net for after-sales service.
Nordisk Mobiltelefon accepts no responsibility for damages of any kind resulting from operating the
ice.net modem in contradiction to the usage recommendations stated above.
To install D-50 Modem application
The installation program starts automatically when D-50 modem is inserted into USB port.
D50 install program supports Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista 32bit Vista 64bit.
Start the installation
Connect your D-50 modem to your USB port.
If the installation program does not start automatically, double click on the Setup.exe program in the
"CD Drive" in My Computer directory's "Portable Devices".
Install Shield Wizard... click 'next'
Choose the installation directory and click "Next" to continue.
Click "Next" to continue.
Click "Install" to continue.
D-50 Modem is configuring your new software installation.
Installation Complete. Click “Finish” and remove the installation CD.
When inserting the Modem
On Window 2000
You may run D-50 modem application when modem is connected to USB port and
device is detected.
On Window XP
In Windows XP or Vista you will see the “Find New Hardware” dialog box.

Using the D-50 Modem Application Software
During this installation wizard a shortcut is placed on your desktop. Double click on the
icon in order to start the D-50 Modem Application software.

Taskbar Icon
When the Application Software is running in the background, the Windows taskbar will show an icon
as above.
To maximize the ApplicationSoftware, click once on the icon.
Connecting to internet
Clicking the button. The Application Software will start connecting to internet.
The software will start logging on to the network:
Modem has been accepted to the mobile network and system is starting up:
Active state is when the icon
appears in the window.
Firewall security in Windows XP SP2 might cause connection problems.
Disconnecting
Clicking the STOP button on the Main window or Dial up slide window, will disconnect the dialup
connection and the modem will switch to idle mode.
Active and Dormant state
Active state : (transmission)
Dormant state : (no transmission)
Menu options
Connection History:
Click on this menu option to display connection history. Connection history is updated
each time when disconnecting from network.
Device Info Diagnostics:
Click on this menu to view information about your device.
Settings:
- General - Change general functions like sound, always on top and so on.
- Connection - Change connection options, like “always automatically connect”
- Data - Change username/ password for network authentication
- UMSD - Options available for PC administrators
Connection History
The User Data Counter will continuously accumulate on each session and will only clear when “Clear”
is clicked.
Device info & Diagnostics
You can use this window to get information about your D-50 network devices.
Select a D-50 network device to test it.
EVDO Quality
This menu option explains the maximum bandwidth available.
Option - General
1. Play sound effects
2. Always on top
3. Start in system tray
4. Keep Connection History
5. Launch when Windows starts
6. Use hibernation : With the Application Software running (idle). Windows will not hibernate or switch
to standby mode.
Please select this option under General tab to close UI automatically so that windows can hibernate or
switch to standby.
Option - Connection
Go automatically when ready
When application starts,connecting to network will start automatically.
Data Mode
To change connection type, click the radio Button.
Service Mode - Packet
Always On is a CDMA 1x internet domain that applies to data (in Kilobytes) based charging packages.
This service allows you to remain connected to the internet all the time.
Charges will apply to the amount of data sent and received with this domain.
Service Mode - Circuit
When you are not within CDMA 1x coverage or you have not subscribed to CDMA 1x, you can still
connect to operator's Standard Mobile internet Service using Circuit, provided you are within CDMA
coverage.
