7.1.2. Staging
These pages display all the necessary information about the cascade calculated by the
sequencer.
Page 1: This tab displays general information about the products from the sequencer point of
view.
Page 2: this tab displays additional information relating to the staging UP of the manager (start
of a product). A stage up (start of a additional product) will occur when one of the conditions
(between 1, 2 and 3) is fulfilled.
17
TVPS v1.0 - CIAT - ENG - User Manual.docx
Page 3: this tab displays additional information relating to the staging DOWN of the manager
(stop of a product) A stage down (stop of one running product) will occur when the condition
is fulfilled.
Information of the displayed data:
Command: Indicates whether the sequencer has requested a group to start,
Running: product operating feedback,
Mode: indicates whether the product has been forced by the user through the screen
settings (Manual OFF = Forced OFF, Manual ON = Forced ON) or is managed by the
cascade (AUTO = not forced),
In maintenance: Used to display whether the product is temporarily removed from
the cascade (Yes) or if its operation is nominal (No),
External Hand: the product operating feedback remains active while the manager
sends it a shutdown request (product has been manually started by an external
source),
Run Feedback alarm: the product operating feedback remains inactive while the
sequencer sends it a start request,
Available: the product is available and ready to be started,
Demand Limit: limitation based on user’s settings to restrict the capacity of the
product (cascade on partial load).
Staging up in progress: informs the user that one of the Stage UP conditions is met
and that the manager will perform a stage up (start a new product) after the pre-stage
up delay,
18
TVPS v1.0 - CIAT - ENG - User Manual.docx
Next product to start: indicates which product will be the next to start when a stage
up occurs,
Staging down in progress: informs the user that the Stage DOWN condition is met and
that the manager will perform a stage down (stop of a product) after the pre-stage
down delay,
Next product to stop: indicates which product will be the next to stop when a stage
down occurs.
The addition of another product will occur as soon as one of the bundles of conditions below
is active:
Stage UP conditions 1:
1.1) Delay after base chiller/heat pump start
1.2) Temperature drift active: Difference (STAGE UP 1: Dead band Setpoint) between the
measured system supply temperature and the plant setpoint,
1.3) Pull down/up rate validated: The system supply temperature is steady or not catching
the setpoint up quickly enough. The pull down/up rate is measured in degrees per
second, if this rate is less than the pulldown rate limit (STAGE UP 1: Pull rate) the
condition is active,
1.4) Delay: All the previous conditions must be true for a certain time (Delay before stage
up).
Stage UP conditions 2:
2.1) Delay after base chiller/heat pump start
2.2) Plant capacity: average capacity of running products in percent above stage up
threshold (STAGE UP 2: Plant Capacity),
2.3) Delay: All the previous conditions must be true for a certain time (Delay before stage
up).
Stage UP conditions 3:
3.1) Delay after base chiller/heat pump start
3.2) Delta T: The Delta between the system supply temperature and the cascade setpoint
above maximum delta T threshold (STAGE UP 3: Delta Temperature),
19
TVPS v1.0 - CIAT - ENG - User Manual.docx
3.3) Delay: All the previous conditions must be true for a certain time (Delay before stage
up).
The withdrawal of a chiller/heat pump will occur as soon as the bundles of conditions below
are active:
Stage DOWN conditions:
1.1) Temperature drift inactive: The measured system supply temperature is lower than
0,6 x the temperature drift value configured in the stage UP conditions 1 (the result
value is displayed in STAGE DOWN: Dead band Setpoint),
1.2) Plant capacity: The current average plant load is less than the anticipated combined
chiller capacity of the next stage down adjusted by a coefficient (result threshold is
displayed in STAGE DOWN: Staging down hysteresis),
1.3) Delay: All the previous conditions must be true for a certain time (Delay before stage
down).
