3 Preparation instructions for reagent solution RE 2.5
These are prepared instructions for the RE 2.5 color reagent which is needed for operating
the P 2.5700 IQ Orthophosphate Analyzer:
Chemicals required:
• Substance A: Ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate p.A.; (NH
4
)
6
Mo

*4H
2
O
• Substance B: Ammonium monovanadate p.A.; NH

SO
4
• Demineralized water (residual conductivity
25 °C
<2µS/cm)
Containers, labels:
• Canister 2.5 L (HDPE) as per Chapter 5.1
• Closure for 2.5 l bottle (HDPE) as per Chapter 5.1
• Labels with color marking as per Chapter 5.2
Aids and appliances:
• Precision balance (±0.10 g) with summing function
• Reactor with agitator, with hand hole, connection for dosing pump. The reactor is located
in the outlet
• Dosing pump
• Measuring beaker 5 L
• Funnel
• Empty cuvettes, 16 mm with screw cap (WTW item no. 250621)
• Suitable pipettes (e.g. 1000 µL and 5000 µL) with associated pipette tips
• Photometer/Spectralphotometer with the possibility of measuring 16 mm round cuvettes
and setting a wavelength of 420 nm (e.g. WTW photoLab 6600 UV-VIS)
• Standard solution model ST 8.0 (WTW art. no. 821996)
Preparations
• Check reactors, agitators, vessels and other aids and appliances mentioned above for
cleanliness, clean if necessary.
• Fill the measuring beaker with demineralized water and then empty again. Tare the still
wet measuring beaker using the precision balance.
Production to process 1 container (25 L, substance C):
• Fill the measuring beaker with demineralized water and place on the precision balance.
The mass of the water poured in is saved by pressing the sum button.
• Pour the contents of the measuring beaker through the funnel into the reactor. Repeat
this process until a water mass of 29.50 kg (corresponding to a volume of 29.5 L at 18 °C
) is in the reactor.
• Weigh out 2954.5 g of substance A on the precision balance and add through the hand
hole of the reactor with the agitator running.
• Weigh out 185.0 g of substance B on the precision balance and add through the hand
hole of the reactor with the agitator running (insoluble).
• Close the hand hole and connect the dosing pump to the reactor as well as to the
container of substance C. After closing the outlet, start the dosing pump and put 25.0 L of
substance C into the reactor. The agitator is running while adding substance C. After
adding substance C, substance B must dissolve completely under yellow coloration. The
solution warms up significantly while mixing.
Testing
• The prepared sulfuric reagent is tested photometrically with an ST 8.0 standard solution.
The photometer should be zeroed prior to the test (for details, see the corresponding
operating manual).
