Extron Electronics 60-545-01 is an In-Circuit Power Adapter (IPA) that provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) to network devices. It is IEEE 802.3af compliant and can supply up to 12.5 watts of power. The IPA can detect whether a device is PoE-capable before supplying power, preventing damage to non-compliant devices.

The IPA has two RJ-45 female connectors: one for LAN input and one for powered LAN output. The LAN input connector links the IPA to the Ethernet LAN or a network switcher, hub, or router. The powered LAN output connector links to the network device.

The IPA has several LEDs that indicate power status. The power indicator LED lights green when power is input to the IPA. The Power over Ethernet indicator LED lights green if the connected network device is IEEE 802.3af compliant.

The Extron IPA T IPA In-Circuit Power Adapter (IPA) is an IPL™
Accessory product in the IP Tools series. Power for network
devices is not always available or nearby. The IPA supplies Power
over Ethernet (PoE) and is IEEE 802.3af compliant. PoE allows
power to be supplied to network devices using the existing
Ethernet cable. The IPA has the added flexibility of being able to
first detect whether a device on the network has PoE capability
before supplying power. This detection feature prevents damage to
network devices that are not compliant with the current IEEE
802.3af standard for PoE.

Power indicator — The LED lights green when power is
input to the IPA T IPA.
2
LAN input — This female RJ-45 connector links the In-
Circuit Power Adapter either directly to the Ethernet LAN
or through a network switcher, hub, or router. Use a
straight-through cable when connecting to a switcher, hub,
or router.
3
Power over Ethernet indicator — The LED lights green if
the connected network device is IEEE 802.3af compliant.
If +12VDC is already being supplied to the IPL T device,
the IPA T IPAs powered LAN output port will not supply
power until the +12VDC is removed. Under this
condition, if the +12VDC is removed while the PoE
connection is present, the IPL T device will power off and
then back on causing a complete restart of all running
scripts. The green LED will light, indicating power is
being sent from the IPA T IPA to the IPL T device.
4
LAN output — This female RJ-45 connector links to the
network device, and the IPA determines if the network
device is able to accept PoE. If it is PoE capable, the
supplied power will be IEEE 802.3af compatible.
