Requirements
Make sure you have the following things before you start.
INTERNET ACCESS: You need an Internet account with an ISP
(Internet Service Provider) and information such as user name,
password, and so on.
WEB BROWSER
: Internet Explorer 6.0 and later versions, with
JavaScript enabled, or Mozilla Firefox 3 and later versions or Safari
2.0 and later versions. The browser will be used to access the Internet
and/or access the P-794H’s Web Configurator.
Hardware Connections
4
1. F.G.: Ground the P-794H by connecting a grounded wire to the F.G.
(Frame Ground) of the P-794H.
2. DSL: If you are using the P-794H with Internet access, use a
telephone wire to connect one of the DSL ports to the telephone wall
jack for Internet access.
If you are using the P-794H for point-to-point connection in CO/CPE
mode, use telephone wires to connect one or both (for maximum
speed) DSL ports to the other DSL port(s) of another P-794H.
Refer to page 9 and the Tutorials chapter in User’s Guide for more
information about the P-794H operating in CO/CPE mode.
3. LAN: Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to one of these
ports for initial configuration. If you are operating in CO mode,
connect the LAN port to a router for Internet access.
4. CID: If you want to configure the P-794H by CLI command, use a
console cable to connect the CID port to your computer’s COM port.
This is for service technicians only.
5. AC Power: Use the power adaptor provided to connect an
appropriate power source to this socket.
Make sure the Reset switch is pointing up before powering
up the P-794H. Do not push the switch down unless you
want to reset the P-794H to the factory default settings.
5
Look at the LEDs (lights) on the top panel of the P-794H.
• The PWR light is on once the P-794H is turned on.
• The LAN light is on if the corresponding LAN port is properly
connected. If you do not connect a computer correctly to this port,
the LAN light will not turn on.
• The CO light is on when the P-794H is operating in CO mode. The
CO light is off when the P-794H is operating in CPE mode.
• The DSL lights blink slowly when there is no DSL connection and
blink rapidly when it is setting up a connnection. Once the DSL
connection is successful, the DSL lights are on.
The LAN lights blink rapidly when the P-794H is sending or receiving
data. If the ALM light is on, there is a connection problem.Try turning the
P-794H off, check the connections, wait a few seconds and then turn it
back on. If the problem persists, you may have a hardware problem and
you need to contact your vendor.

The Web Configurator
The Web Configurator is a web browser tool that allows you to configure
the P-794H. The computer and the P-794H need to be in the same IP
address range to use this tool.
1. Open your browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 (the P-794H’s
default IP address) as the address.
If you cannot access the Web Configurator, make sure the IP address
and subnet mask of the ZyXEL Device and the computer are in the same
IP address range. See your User's Guide for information on setting up
your computer's IP address.
2.
To login, enter username
admin
and password
1234
(default). Click
OK
.
If the login screen does not open, make sure you allow web
browser pop-up windows, JavaScript and Java permissions.
Your computer should also be set to get an IP address
automatically from a DHCP server. See your User’s Guide
for more information.
7
Internet Access Setup
Open your web browser and browse to http://www.zyxel.com. You may
be prompted to enter your username and password.
If the web page opens correctly, your P-794H is ready for you to use. If
the web page does not open, you need to enter your Internet access
configuration using the Web Configurator - see page 6. You should have
the information provided by your ISP.
1. You can manually configure the Internet connection. Log in the Web
Configurator. Click Configuration > WAN Connection. Click Create
a new service.
2. Select the Internet mode and encapsulation (PPPoE routed) used by
your ISP. Then click Configure.
8
3. Enter a description for the connection. If your IP address is assigned
by your ISP, enter it in the WAN IP addess field. If not, leave it as
0.0.0.0. Type your account username and password. Click
Configure.
4.
If you are using static IP, go to
Configuration > DNS Relay
and enter
the primary DNS servers’ IP addresses. Click
Apply
to finish the setup.

Point-to-Point Setup
You can setup two P-794Hs for fast point-to-point connection by setting
one P-794H as the CO and the other P-794H as the CPE and connecting
their DSL ports. The two P-794Hs and the computers can be in the same
DHCP domain but must have different IP addresses.
CO Mode
Log into the P-794H you are using as the CO. Click SHDSL > SHDSL
Configuration and select CO in the Unit ID field. Click Apply.

CPE Mode
Log into the P-794H you are using as the CPE. Click SHDSL > SHDSL
Configuration and select CPE in the Unit ID field. Make sure the other
settings on this screen are the same as SHDSL settings of CO. Click
Apply.
1. Connect the DSL ports of the CO to the DSL ports of the CPE with the
provided telephone wires. The DSL lights will be blinking. Wait for 1-2
minutes as the P-794Hs establish the connection. The DSL lights will
stop blinking once the connection is successful.
2. To test the connection, you can ping the CPE from the CO or the
other way around. If there is response, the connection is ready. If
there is no response, check your DSL connections and also see if the
SHDSL screen settings of the CPE are the same as the CO’s.
