pro900DP
Envelope Press
The OKI pro900DP envelope printer is a CMYK digital
envelope printer capable of producing full color images
at 600 or 1200 dpi.
The solution can produce up to 50, #10 envelopes per
Minute, or 36 letter pages per minute, in full color. This
solution can also print on a wide variety of envelope,
paper and label substrates including window envelopes,
printing and is capable of bleed printing off the left, right
and bottom edges of the envelope.
The pro900DP can print sizes from as small as 3x5
cards and can print sheets up to 12” x 18”, utilizing the
high capacity feeder. The system includes 2 media trays
each holding a maximum of 530 sheets, up to 12x 18.
The pro900DP comes standard with an EFI Fiery 8e
Embedded RIP which gives customers the ability to
adjust color to better match Pantone PMS colors and in
addition, helps customers produce basic variable
data applications such as addressing letters, envelopes
or postcards to produce mail ready documents in a
single pass, consistently, on one device.

The OKI C931/ C941/C942 DP envelope printers are a
CMYK digital envelope printer capable of producing full
color images at 1200 dpi resolution.
The solution can produce up to 500 #10 envelopes in
less than 12 minutes or 50 letter –size pages per minute,
in full color. This solution can also print on a wide
variety of envelope, paper and label substrates,
The C931/ C941/C942 DP can print sizes from as small
as A2 envelopes and as large as 10x13” catalog
envelopes utilizing the high capacity feeder. The system
includes 2 media trays each holding a maximum of 530
sheets up to 13x 19.
DP models can be paired with an optional RIP server to
achieve consistency and automation in light production
environments. The C941DP provides the benefits of
white and clear toner printing in a flexible affordable
easy to use 5-station device.

Envelopes – Selecting the right media
Themediaselectedforaspecificprintjobplaysanimportantroleindeliveringhighqualityresults.Inadditiontothe
generalqualityofthemedia(texture,weight,composition),thephysicaldesignandconstructionofanenvelopemustbe
takenintoconsiderationinstrivingtoachieveoptimumprintquality.
Use
windowenvelopesthataredesignedforalaserprintingandmachinefeeding.Avoidenvelopeswithwindowsthat
appearwavyorthewindowisnottightlygluedtothecutoutonthefaceoftheenvelope.Alsoinspectforroughedges
alongtheenvelope’sflapwhichmayhookontothewindowoftheenvelopebeingfed,resultinginadoublefeedsand
jams.
Insomecases,theenvelope’s
compositionandconstructionmaylimitthetypeofgraphicartworkand/orthe
positioningofthecontentforthatenvelopestyle,andsomeenvelopesshouldjustbeavoidedaltogether.Themost
commonlyusedenvelopestylesandsizes,inUS/Canadaareshownbelow.


EnvelopeDesignConsiderations
Whenselectingenvelops,beawarethatthephysicaldesignandqualityoftheenvelopemayimposelimitationsonprint
qualityand/orhandling.Envelopescanbeachallengebecauseofthemultiplesurfacespassingthroughtheprinter.
Forexample,mostenvelopesrequiretheprintertotransfertonerontoasurfacethathas
2,3and4layersofthickness.
Atypicalenvelopewillhave4layersofmediainmultiplelocationswhenit’sflapsareclosed.Intheillustrationbelow,
theredcirclesindicatethelocationwhere4layersofmediaoverlapontwodifferentenvelopdesigns.Generally,the
printeriscapable
oftransferringtoneronthickmedia.Howe ver,te stinghasfoundthatthelocationoftheoverlapping
layersmaycreatepressurepointsinoneareawhichyieldavoidofpressureinotherareasoftheenvelope.Thisis
illustratedinbelow.


Knowingaheadoftimethestrengthsofeachenvelopecanbehelpfulinmatchingajobto anenvelopeorknowingwhen
tochangethecontentand/orthelayoutofaprintjob.Theimagesaboveillustratethatthepressurepointsofa
particularenvelopedesignmayinterferewiththe
printer’sabilitytomaintainun iformcontactbetweentheprinter’s
imagedrumsandthesurfaceoftheenvelope.Keepinmind,thatanenvelopedesignthathasaweaknessinonearea
maybeacceptableforjobsthatdonotusethatarea(thisisespeciallytrueforlargeenvelopes).Testing
andexperience
willhelptoquicklyidentifythebestenvelopeforagivenjoborlayout.Somejobsmayrequireyoutouseaspecific
envelopeinordertoreliablyplacecontentinspecificlocationsortoachieveconsistentquality.

Floor/levellingrequirements
Althoughtherearelevelingfeetonthefeedersandconveyors,anattemptshouldbemadetoalwaysplacethesystem
onalevelsurface.Theidealorientationofthefeederbodyandconveyorarelevel,fronttoback.
Keepingeachcomponent(conveyor,feederandprinter)aslevelaspossibleisthe
goal.
Feeder/Conveyorassembly
Thepro900DPfeederandconve yorcomewithlegsthathavetobeassembled.Theeasiestwaytoassemblethefeeder
istoputtogetherthelegsandbaseplate,turnthefeederonit’sside,andthenattachthelegs.Theeasiestwayto

upsidedownandattachthelegs.
TheC931/941DP/C942DPfeederandconveyorareeasiertoassembleastheycomewithastandandcolumnasshown
below.Forthese,it’seasiertoassemblethefooter/columnandmountingplateandthenturnthefeederandconveyor
upsidedown,attachtheassembledbase
tothefeederandconveyorandthenfinishassemblingthefeeder(stackerarms,
wedgeassembly).


PreparingtheprinterforConveyor
Thereartraycaneitherberemovedfromtheprinter,orthetraycanbemodifiedsothatitappearstobeintheopen
positionatalltimes.Werecommendjustremovingthereardoorasiteliminatesanypotentialissueswithcurledmedia
notexitingtheprinter.
PreparingtheprinterforFeeder
Theinputsidefolddowntraymustfirstberemovedfromtheprinter.Simplyunclipthesideguideofthefolddown
tray,fromtheprinterontherearsideofthetray,andliftthisassemblyoutoftheprinter.
PrinterwithTrayremoved
Removetheseperatorpadtoallowmediaandenvelopestobemoreeasilyfedbytheexternalfe eder. Firstopenup
theinputassemblyandlocatethetopfeedrollerandarm.Thenlocate thelowercenterpaperseparatorpadand
removeit.Thiswillnotbeneededforenvelopesand
mediafedfromthefeeder.


Next,installthesidearmspacertoholdthelifttrayinposition.Thespacer(eithermetalorplastic)hasdoublesided
tape,whichhelpsitstayinplaceonthesmallblackplastic‘shelf’ontherightsideofthetopfeedarm.Addthe
spacerasshown.This
willholdthetoprollerarmallthewayupwhentheinputtrayisintheclosedposition.
Thefinalstepistoinstallthewedge/springpadassemblyincludedwiththefeederinstallationkit.

PreparingtheprinterforConveyor
Thereartrayisremovedfromtheprinter,justliketheC931/941DP.Oncetherearfaceupcatchtrayisremovedfrom
theprintertheconveyorjustrollsuptotheendandwhenmediadropsoutoftheprinter,itdropsontotheconveyo r.
PreparingtheprinterforFeeder
Thepro900DPfeederattachestothefrontendoftheprinterandusesthepaperinputsensortotelltheprinterpaperis
alwaysthere,andtoresetthiswhenit’stimeforpapertobereloaded.Italsoclipsintothechassisoftheprinter,and
requiresareflector(for
thesheetsensor)tobeinstalled.TheMultipurposetrayassemblyhastoberemovedand
requiresmorestepstoinstall,thantherollupdesignoftheC931/941DP.Thiscanbeaccomplishedasfollows.
Removingthebypass/Multipurposetray:
1. Locatethetwowhiteplasticsupportarms,unlockandrotateoutoftheway.
2. Slidetheoutsidearmsslightlyupandawaytodisengagefromprinter.

theupperguide.


4. Locatethesmallwhiteliftarmoneachsideofthebypasstray.Pushthesebacktoallowthetraytorelease
upwards.
5. LocatetheTlockunderthetray,removeitsothatthetraycanbemovedandunlockedfromprinter
chassis.
6. PullthereleaseleverontheleftsidetopartiallyopenthetrayoncetheTlockisremovedtoremovethetray.


Attachingfeedertoprinter:
1. Ontheendofthefeederdischarge,locatethemountingbrackets,reversethemfromtheshippingposition,so
thattheyareopen,looseandfacingtheprinter.

2. Loosenthetwohexnutsonthesideofthefeederwherethedischargeframeattachestothefeeder.
Thiswill
allowthedischargeframetomoveandbeeasilyalignedwiththeprinter.
3. AlignmountingbracketswiththeCopeningfacingthemountingpegsontheprinter.Oncethisisconnected,
lockthetopmountingscrewsonthebracket,retightenthedischargesideframe,andclipthe
printer’stoproller
assemblybackintothesideframeofthefeedermountingbrackets.

Ensurethatthereflectoriscenteredabovethefeeder’ssheetsensor,andthatthesolenoidswitchiscentered
over(andnothungupon)thepaperinputsensorontheprinter.

Trouble-free Feeding
Onafrictionfeedsystem,therearetwoareaswherethesetupdetails,canalleviateawidevarietyofenvelopefeed
issues.Thewedgeatthestacker(intheback)isonearea,andtheotheristhegateadjustment(whatsomecallthe‘gap’
adjustment).Thetendencyisto
focusonthegateadjustment,butmanytimesthemorecriticaladjustmentforfeed
consistencyisactuallyatthewedge(thisisparticularlytruefortheC931/C941/C942DPsystems.
1) The‘gap’oftheseparatorshouldbesetsothatthetop(brown)gategripsthecenteroftheenvelope
firmly.During
feedingwithpressureandtheweightofthestackthe(tan)beltscanactuallybeslightlypusheddown,sothisstepis
key!
Tofindtheidealpositionfortheinitialsetup,setthegatesothatitsbottomhasa0.08or0.12inch(2
or3mm)overlap
withthetopsurfaceofthefeederbeltsasshows,andthenstartadjustments.
Adjustmentofthefeederitselfbeforeitsinstallationtotheprinter
Loadabout100envelopesthatareactuallytobeused,andmake
adjustmentbyfeedingthem.
Thepreferredgapbetweenenvelopeson
thedischargebeltis
about1.6to2inch(40to50mm).
Adjustmentsforjamsordoublefeedintheseparationarea
Jams:Jamstendtooccurwithasmallgapbetweentheseparatorblock
andtheseparatorbelts.Makethegaplargerbyturningtheknobclockwise.
Double
feed:Doublefeedtendtooccurwithalargegapbetweenthe

knobcounterclockwise(“LOWER”arrowdirection).
2) Oncetheinitialgapisset,removetheenvelope,andmoveitinto
positionwhereitisfirmlyagainsttheseparatorbelts.Thereshouldnaturally
beaboutan0.2inchbetweenthebackedgeoftheenvelopeandtheWedge.
3) Nowlet’ssetabout
a1/16”gapbetweenthesideframe
andtheenvelope(oneachside)makingsureit’scentered.

stackforms.Makesuretheyarepressedfirmlyagainstthecurvedfrontofthefeederandthenslidethewedge
forwardwiththegoalofkeepingthefirstenvelopeinplacewithapproximatelythe0.2inchoverlaptheWedgethat
westartedwithThisshouldlook
similartowhatisshownbelow
6) Inadditionplaceatleastoneofthesupportsatthebackofthewedgeneartheedges.Forsomeenvelopes,it’sOK
ifthestackofproductformsaslight‘bow’inthecenter(thisiswhere

Lastly,settheColormodeGraphics Prosettinggivesthebestchanceofpreservingcolor,ifthefilecontains

ThemajorityofpaperjamsattheMPTraywhenusinganenvelopefeederarerelatedtotimingdifferencesbetweenthe
feederandprinter.Thelatestprinterfirmwareincludesasettingtohelpsynchronizethetiming:

TheRIPsaregearedtowardprovidingadditionalcontrolandadjustmentofcolor.Therearetimes,however,whenthey
canbealittleconfusingwithregardstoexpectedspeed.Thisisbecausetheyarepossiblysendinginformationtothe
printerthatthesizeisan‘envelope’whichwillsendtheprinterinto
envelopemode(slowerprintingwithlessfuser
pressure).Theprintersupportsenvelopesizesthatwillinvokeenvelopemode(ex.Com10)andsettingswhichwill
