1. Introduction
This document describes features and settings available for the DT690 DECT telephone and
DT692 DECT telephone.
The DT690 and the DT692 are feature-rich telephones with color display, telephony, and
messagin
g. Additionally, for the DT692 is Bluetooth standard and for DT690 is Bluetooth
optional.
They are designed to be used in medium demanding environment such
as hospital
environment, but also office environment.
They are suitable for users dependent of being reac
hable and/or having a need for mobile
voice and messaging features, which make them ideal for applications where the user needs
either one way messaging or to be able to interact with other users. The color display
enhances and simplifies the use of the telephones.
For software download and parameter set up, read the Installation and Operation Manual,
Portable Device Manager (PDM), Windows version, TD 92681EN and Configuration Manual,
Aastra DT390/DT69x DECT Telephones, TD 92503EN.

PDM: Portable Device Manager:
An application, running on a PC, for managing portable devices,

CPDM3: Centralized Portable Device Manager:
A system version with more features than the PDM. It runs on a ELISE3

2. Descriptions
2.1 The Cordless Telephone
IMPORTANT: The telephone may retain small metal objects around the mouthcap or earcap
region.
Case
The plastic cover parts are made of durable
PC/ABS material.
Antenna
The antenna is integrated inside the
cordless telephone.
Loudspeaker
The cordless telephone has a separate loudspea
ker for the loudspeaking function. It is
placed on the back side of the cordless telephone.
Microphone
The microphone is placed on the front bottom
side of the cordless telephone.
Clip
There are three different belt clip options to
the cordless telephone; a hinge-type clip
(standard), a swivel-type clip, or no clip which makes it possible to use the cordless
telephone without any clip on. See 14.2 Attach the H
inge-type Clip on page 65, or 14.3
Attach the Swivel-type Clip on page 66. Use the clip to attach the telephone to a belt or
similar.
Battery
The battery is a rechargeable Li-Pol battery, placed unde
r a battery cover. See 14.1.4

The battery is fully charged within four hours. See 14.1.2 Charge the B
attery on page 64.
The battery can be charged separately with a special battery charger. See 14.1.3 Cha

1 Multifunction button (DT690 only)
This button can be used as a short cut to functions; long or double

Soft keys
The three Soft keys are located just beneath the display and the
function of each
Soft key is indicated by text in the display just above
the keys. In idle mode, the middle and right Soft key can be used for
specific functions defined by the user of the handset.

Off-hook key
This key is used for connecting calls. One short p
ress in idle mode opens
the call list.

Voice mail access
To listen to a voice mail

Key lock and Upper/Lower case
A press on the key and then the soft key "Lock" in idle mode locks the
keypad. If the keypad is
locked, a press on the key and then the soft key
"Yes" in idle mode unlocks the keypad. It is also for switching between
upper/lower case and digits.

2.1.1 Hot Keys
A Hot Key can be programmed to give access to frequently used functions such as dialling a
spec
ific telephone number, a short cut on the menu, or sending an SMS. Any key
"0", "2" - "9" can be set to a Hot Key. A long pres
s on any of these digits in stand by mode
are by default a short cut to the Call contact list.
2.1.2 Alphanumeric Keys
NOTE: Depending on the selected menu language an
d character setting in the CPDM3, other
characters can be available. This means that the character order can differ from the
figure below.

Use this key to step in the menu and when working in text mode.

In idle mode, and number input mode
• A short press on a key enter the digits “0” - “9” and the characters * and #.
• Enter a pause in number input mode by a long press
on the #
-key. A pause is indicated
by a "P" in the display.
In text input mode
• A short press on a key 0-9, displays the first availabl
e character on that specific key. The
marked character is selected after a timeout, or when another key is pressed.
• To change to upper/lower case, press the * -key before entering the
character.
The *-key can also be used to display only the digits.
• To add space in the text, make a short press on key 0.
• The first character entered in a message, or when a
dding/editing
a name in the Contacts
menu, will be an upper level character followed by lower level characters, unless the * -
key is pressed before entering the character. To switch between Abc, ABC, abc, and 123
the *-key is pressed.

2.1.3 Icons and Text in the Display
All functions and settings available to the user are shown as icons
and text in the display.
The icons and text in the display indicate functions and settings to which you have access.
The display normally displays date and time, the Owner ID and telephone number. The
Owner ID can manually be set by the user.

• The Status bar (1) is used for icons which give the
user information for signal strength,
missed call, new message, phone lock, key lock, sound off, time and battery status. This
row is always visible in all screens.

• The Header bar (2) displays the current date, headset connection, Bluetooth connection,
and system connection.
• The Active area (3) are used for information such as th
e name of the system to which
the cordless telephone is connected to. A user identity provided from the system and/or
an Owner ID can also be displayed if configured in the Settings menu. This is also the area
for pop up text for example, missed calls or to confirm an action.

Icons
“Signal strength” icon is visible in the upper left corner. The staples shown
in display depends on the signal strength.
“Full battery” icon is displayed in upper right corner.
Low battery warning” icon is shown when the battery has 10% or less
remaining capacity left.
"Empty battery warning" icon is flashing when the battery has 5% or less
remaining of its capacity left.
“Sound off” icon is displayed when the Sound off key is pressed, or when
the telephone is placed in charger with "Sound off" enabled. It is also
displayed when the ring signal is to Silent.
"Microphone off" icon indicates a silenced microphone. It is displayed after
a long press on the Sound off key during a call.
“Loudspeaking” icon is displayed in the soft key bar during a call. Pressing
this icon will activate the loudspeaking mode.
“Loudspeaking off” icon is displayed after the soft key for Loudspeaking
icon has been pressed. Pressing this icon will deactivate the loudspeaking
mode.
“New text message” icon indicates that a new text message (or messages)
has arrived. The icon remains in the status bar until all new messages in the
inbox are read.
“New voice mail message” icon indicates that a new voice mail message (or
messages) has arrived. The icon remains in the status bar until all new
voice mail messages in the inbox have been listened to.
“Voice mail message” icon is displayed in the inbox when there are voice
mails. The icon remains until all voice mails have been listened to.
“Read message” icon in front of a message shows that this message once
has been read.

“Key lock” icon indicates a locked keypad.
"Phone lock" icon indicates a locked telephone.

“Bluetooth” icon indicates that Bluetooth is enabled.
“Bluetooth headset” icon indicates that a Bluetooth headset is connected
to the telephone.
“Headset” icon indicates that a corded headset is connected to the
telephone.
“Outgoing call” icon is added to all outgoing calls in the call list.
“Incoming call” icon is added to all answered calls in the call list.
“Missed call” icon is added to all missed calls in the call list, and in the
status bar.
"Locked entry" icon is used to indicate that company phonebook name and
numbers can not be edited or deleted by the user.
"Profile active" icon
"Alarm" icon indicates that the handset is has alarm functionality (DT692
only)
“PDM/Device Manager communication” icon is visible when there is an
active communication with the PDM/Device Manager.
Menu icons
The ”Contacts” menu contains all names/numbers in the local phonebook.
In addition, a company phonebook

with up to 1000 entries can be
downloaded to the telephone. It is also
possible to access a central
phonebook

from the "Contact" menu.
The "My favourites" menu contains menu short cuts used to customize an
own menu.
The “Messaging” menu contains all message handling such as reading and
writing messages.
The “Calls” menu contains call lists, call time, and call services*. Call services
is configured in the PDM.
The “Connections” menu contains Bluetooth connection, headset selection,
System selection, and In charger selection.
The “Settings” menu contains personal telephone settings such as
changing the ring volume, selecting language, etc.

The ”Short cuts" menu contains short cuts for the Soft keys, Hot keys,
Navigation keys, and the Multifunction button

"Normal" profile is active by default.

2.2.1 Desktop Chargers

There are two desktop chargers available, o
ne basic that will only charge the cordless
telephone, and one with advanced functionality to download new software and to
synchronize parameters.
The charger is delivered with a plug-in power supply and is connected into an ordinary wall
sock
et. For more information, see Installation and Operation Manual, DC4 Desktop Charger,
TD 92876EN.
NOTE: Only use the charger within the temperature range of +5° C – +40° C.

2.2.2 Charging Rack
The Charging Rack (CR3) is used for chargi
ng several telephones, to synchronize
parameters, and for software download.
The built in power supply can charge up to six telephones.

2.2.3 Battery Pack Charger
The Battery Pack Charger (CR4) is used for charging up to si
x spare batteries. See
Installation Guide, CR4 Battery Pack Charger, TD 92834EN.
2.2.4 Belt Clips
Two belt clip options are available:
• Hinge-type clip
The clip on the back of the telephone is used to fasten th
e t
elephone to a belt or similar.
It is also possible to change the clip to a swivel-type.
•Swivel clip
The ordinary belt clip can be replaced with a special swivel-type belt clip adapted to
fir
m
ly place your telephone onto your belt.

any clip on, see 14.4 Attach Cover for

2.2.5 Security String
The security string is 800 mm long. The security stri
ng is attached directly to the telephone.
2.2.6 Leather Casing
The leather casing is especially designed for the te
lephone. The casing comes with a swivel
type belt clip and the telephone is fully operational while placed in the casing.
2.2.7 Headset
A headset is recommended if you frequently use th
e telephone and/or want to have both
hands free. The headset comes in three versions; microphone integrated in the cable,
microphone on a boom, and hearing protection.
In order to achieve optimal audio
quality with the different headset types it is recommended
to select the corresponding headset profile, see 7.1.2 He
adset on page 32.

3. Basic Operation
3.1 Switch the Telephone On/Off
The telephone is switched off:
1 Press and hold the On-hook key
.
When pressing the On-hook key, the telephone will vibrate and t
he display lights up.
2 A dialog window DT690 Switch on? or DT692 Switch on? i
s displayed depending on
which telephone that is used. Confirm by pressing "Yes".
The telephone is in idle mode:
1 Press and hold the On-hook key

2 A dialog window "Switch off?" is displayed. Confirm by pressing "Ye
s".
NOTE: If a handset restriction is enabled, it might not be possible to swit
ch off the handset.

3.2 Lock/Unlock the Keypad
3.2.1 Lock/Unlock the Keypad in Idle Mode
To prevent accidentally pressing keys and making a call, the keys can be locked.
Lock Keypad
Press
and then press "Lock".
Unlock Keypad
Press
and then press "Yes".
NOTE: A call can be answered or ended while the
keypad is locked. Any predefined
emergency number can also be called while the keypad is locked as long as the
emergency numbers have been configured via the PDM/Device Manager. See
Configuration Manual, Aastra DT390/DT69x DECT Telephones, TD 92503EN.

Tip: It is possible to use the alarm button on a telephone with locked keyp
ad (DT692 only).
3.3 Lock and Unlock the Telephone
The telephone can be protected for unauthorized use. If this function is activated, a PIN code
has to be entered for example to switch on the telephone, to answer an incoming call etc.
The default phone lock code (0000) can be changed to any 4 - 8 digit personalized code.
NOTE: If configured in the telephone, it is possi
ble to call
any predefined emergency number
