The controller board must be removed to install the following options:
a SIMM upgrade, an internal hard disk, a Kanji font SIMM, an optional
network LocalTalk or serial interface, or a 1200x1200 dpi Multi-Res
daughterboard.
0 WARNING
The options which require access to the controller board
should be performed only by a qualified QMS service technician.

VCaution:
It's very important to protect the printer controller board
from electrostatic damage while performing this task.
If an anti-static wrist strap is provided in your printer option kit,
attach one end of it to your wrist and the other end to any convenient
electrical ground (for example, the bare metal chassis of equipment,
as on the back of a computer, that is plugged in but
turned off).
Never attach the wrist strap to any piece of equipment with an
electrical current present. Turn off all power switches first. Plastic,
rubber, wood, painted metal surfaces, and telephones are not
acceptable grounding points. The printer isn't an acceptable
grounding point either because it must be unplugged before you
perform this task.
If you don't have an anti-static wrist strap, discharge your body's
static electric charge by touching a grounded surface before you
handle any printer boards or components and before removing the
controller board cover. Also avoid walking around after grounding
yourself.
1 Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord and
all interface cables (parallel, serial, Ethernet, and the
optional interface, if installed) from the printer.
2 Loosen the two screws, at the top and bottom of the metal
mounting bracket cover on the rear of the printer.
Reinstalling the
Controller
Board
QMS 2060 Print System Options2-4
3 Remove the controller board.
Using both hands, grab the two screws (on the metal mounting
bracket cover), slide the controller board out of the printer, and
set-it aside on a flat surface.
Reinstalling the Controller
Board
The controller board must be reinstalled after installing the following
options: a SIMM upgrade, an internal hard disk, a Kanji font SIMM, an
optional network LocalTalk or serial interface, and a 1200x1200 dpi
Multi-Res daughterboard.
M WARNING! The options which require access to the controller board
should be performed only by a qualified QMS service technician.
ACHTUNG! Arbeiten am QMS Controller sollten nur von
qualifiziertem Servicepersonal durchgeführt werden.
Procedure
Use the following procedure to reinstall the controller board.
s Caution: It's very important to protect the printer controller board
from electrostatic damage. Please review the anti-static caution in
“Removing the Controller Board” on page 2-2.

1 Replace the controller board in the printer.
Lift the controller board and position it on the guide rails inside the
printer.
»Note:
Align the controller board with both guide rails, before
sliding it in the printer.
2 Slide the controller board in until it is firmly seated in the
printer.
3 Tighten the 2 screws you loosened earlier.
Push in each screw and then tighten.
4 Reconnect all interface cables and the power cord, and then
turn on the printer.

Single in-line memory modules (or SIMMs) are compact circuit
boards with surface-mount memory chips.
Your QMS 2060 Print System comes with the following printer
memory. However, you can upgrade any of these models to 128 MB
of RAM through the installation of SIMMs.
QMS 2060 Print System BX with 16 MB RAM
QMS 2060 Print System IS/GX with 32 MB RAM
QMS 2060 Print System EX/FX with 48 MB RAM
Additional printer memory allows you to download more fonts and
increase the printers buffer (area where data sent from the computer
is stored while its waiting to be printed).
See FAQ 7191 for a list of each QMS-approved SIMM, its manufactur-
ers and part numbers, and the QMS products on which it can be
used. You can access QMS FAQs through the Internet at
http://www.qms.com/support/supportbase/ or through Q-FAX (see
appendix A, “QMS Customer Support,” to find out how to access Q-
FAX documents).
»Note:
FAQ numbers may be subject to change, so you may want to
obtain a directory of Q-FAX documents before requesting a specific
document.
0 WARNING:
Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
ACHTUNG!
Bitte schalten Sie den Drucker aus und ziehen Sie den
Netzstecker heraus.

Caution: This hardware change automatically restores defaults. If
your memory settings are specific for your environment, print an
advanced status page before making this hardware change, so you
can recover these memory settings.
It's very important to protect the printer controller board from
electrostatic damage while performing this SIMM installation. Please
review the anti-static caution in “Removing the Controller Board” on
page 2-2.
1 Access the printer controller board.
Use the instructions in the “Removing the Controller Board” sec-
tion earlier in this chapter.
2 Position the controller board on a flat surface so the control-
ler board lies flat and the interface bracket is facing you.
3 Remove the SIMM from the anti-static bag.

4 Insert the SIMM into the SIMM connector.
Hold the SIMM at a 45° angle to the controller board, with the
notch on the right side and the bottom edge in the connector.
»Note:
You can insert a SIMM in any SIMM connector as long as
DRAM0 and the SIMM connector before the one you’re installing
are occupied.
