Important

Whensettingtheinitialpassword,thepasswordissentincleartextoverthenetwork.Ifthereisariskofnetworksnifng,

rstsetupasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionbeforeresettingthepasswords.

Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforthedataandservices.Axis’productsdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasproducts

maybeusedinvarioustypesofinstallations,buttoprotectyourdatadothefollowing:

•Don’tusethedefaultpasswordthatcomeswiththeproducts.

•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablyusingapasswordgenerator.

•Don’texposethepassword.

•Changepasswordatarecurringinterval,atleastonceayear.

Setapasswordfortherootaccount

Important

Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproduct

mustberesettothefactorydefaultsettings.

Imagequality

Aboutcapturemodes

CapturemodedenesthemaximumresolutionandmaximumframerateavailableintheAxisproduct.Ifusingacapturemodewith

asmallerresolutionthanthemaximumresolution,theangleofviewisreduced.Thecapturemodealsoaffectslightsensitivity.A

capturemodewithahighmaximumframeratehasreducedlightsensitivityandviceversa.

Thelowerresolutioncapturemodeiscroppedoutfromthehighestresolution.

Theimageshowshowtheeldofviewandaspectratiocanchangebetweentwodifferentcapturemodes.

Howtoselectexposuremode

Thereareseveralexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproveimagequalityfor

specicsurveillancescenes.IntheImagetab,selectbetweenthefollowingoptions:

•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicker-free.

•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand

sunduringdaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.

•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.

Aboutviewarea

Aviewareaisacroppedpartofthefullview.Youcanstreamandstoreviewareasinsteadofthefullviewtominimizebandwidth

andstorageneeds.IfyouenablePTZforaviewarea,youcanpan,tiltandzoomwithinit.Byusingviewareasyoucanremove

partsofthefullview,forexamplesky.

Whenyousetupaviewarea,werecommendyoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea

size.Ifyousetthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeitimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,

whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.

Howtohidepartsoftheimagewithprivacymasks

Ifyouwanttohidepartsoftheimageduetoprivacyreasons,useoneorseveralprivacymasks.

Whatisaprivacymask?

Aprivacymaskisauser-denedareathatcoverspartsofthemonitoredarea.Privacymasksappearasblocksofsolidcolorandare

appliedonthevideostream.

PrivacymaskscannotbebypassedthroughtheVAPIX®applicationprogramminginterface(API).

Theremotefocusandzoomfunctionalityallowsyoutomakefocusandzoomadjustmentstoyourcamerafromacomputer.Itisa

convenientwaytoensurethatthescene’sfocus,viewingangleandresolutionareoptimizedwithouthavingtovisitthecamera’s

installationlocation.

Howtoenhancefacialrecognition

Tobetterrecognizethefaceofapersonpassingbythecamera,youcansettheoptimalpixelresolutionwiththecamera’spixel

Howtoenhancelicenseplaterecognition

Tobetterrecognizethelicenseplateofacarpassingbythecamera,youcanapplyandadjustanumberofthings.

Howtoreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions

Toreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowingsettings:

•Makesurethattheexposuremodeisautomatic.

Increasingthemaxshuttervaluecanresultinmotionblur.

•Theshutterspeedshouldbeasslowaspossible,whichmeansyoushouldsetmaxshuttertothehighestpossiblevalue.

•Reducesharpnessintheimage.

Yourcameradeliverscolorimagesduringtheday.Aslightdiminishes,youcansetthecameratoautomaticallyshifttonightmode.

Thisenablesdeliveringblack-and-whiteimageswiththehelpofIRlight.

1.GotoSettings>Image>Dayandnight,andmakesurethattheIRcutlterissettoAuto.

2.Todetermineatwhatlightlevelyouwantthecameratoshifttonightmode,movetheThresholdslidertowardBright

orDark.

Note

Ifyousettheshifttooccurwhenit’sbrighter,theimageremainssharperastherewillbelesslow-lightnoise.Ifyou

settheshifttooccurwhenit’sdarker,theimagecolorsaremaintainedlongerbuttherewillbemoreimageblurdue

tolow-lightnoise.

3.EnableIRilluminationtousethecamera’sbuilt-inIRlightwhenthenightmodeisactivated.

Howtochoosevideocompressionformat

Decidingwhichcompressionmethodtochoosedependsonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesofyournetwork.The

availableoptionsare:

MotionJPEG

MotionJPEGorMJPEGisadigitalvideosequencethatismadeupofaseriesofindividualJPEGimages.Theseimagesarethen

displayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion

videotheratemustbeatleast16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.

TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage

containedinthestream.

H.264orMPEG-4Part10/AVC

Note

H.264isalicensedtechnology.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewingclientlicense.Installingadditionalunlicensed

copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion

JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace

arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,highervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

Howtoresettofactorydefaultsettings

Important

Resettofactorydefaultshouldbeusedwithcaution.Aresettofactorydefaultresetsallsettings,includingtheIPaddress,to

thefactorydefaultvalues.

Toresettheproducttothefactorydefaultsettings:

1.Disconnectpowerfromtheproduct.

2.Pressandholdthecontrolbuttonwhilereconnectingpower.SeeProductoverview.

3.Keepthecontrolbuttonpressedfor15–30secondsuntilthestatusLEDindicatorashesamber.

4.Releasethecontrolbutton.TheprocessiscompletewhenthestatusLEDindicatorturnsgreen.Theproducthasbeenreset

tothefactorydefaultsettings.IfnoDHCPserverisavailableonthenetwork,thedefaultIPaddressis192.168.0.90

5.UsetheinstallationandmanagementsoftwaretoolstoassignanIPaddress,setthepassword,andaccessthevideostream.

Problemsupgradingthermware

FirmwareupgradefailureIfthermwareupgradefails,theproductreloadsthepreviousrmware.Themostcommonreason

isthatthewrongrmwarelehasbeenuploaded.Checkthatthenameofthermwarele

correspondstoyourproductandtryagain.

ProblemssettingtheIPaddress

Theproductislocatedona

differentsubnet

IftheIPaddressintendedfortheproductandtheIPaddressofthecomputerusedtoaccessthe

productarelocatedondifferentsubnets,youcannotsettheIPaddress.Contactyournetwork

administratortoobtainanIPaddress.

TheIPaddressisbeingused

byanotherdevice

DisconnecttheAxisproductfromthenetwork.Runthepingcommand(inaCommand/DOS

window,typepingandtheIPaddressoftheproduct):

•Ifyoureceive:Replyfrom<IPaddress>:bytes=32;time=10...

thismeansthattheIPaddressmayalreadybeinusebyanotherdeviceonthenetwork.

ObtainanewIPaddressfromthenetworkadministratorandreinstalltheproduct.

•Ifyoureceive:Requesttimedout,thismeansthattheIPaddressisavailable

forusewiththeAxisproduct.Checkallcablingandreinstalltheproduct.

PossibleIPaddressconict

withanotherdeviceonthe

samesubnet

ThestaticIPaddressintheAxisproductisusedbeforetheDHCPserversetsadynamicaddress.

ThismeansthatifthesamedefaultstaticIPaddressisalsousedbyanotherdevice,theremay

beproblemsaccessingtheproduct.

Theproductcannotbeaccessedfromabrowser

WhenHTTPSisenabled,ensurethatthecorrectprotocol(HTTPorHTTPS)isusedwhenattempting

tologin.Youmayneedtomanuallytypehttporhttpsinthebrowser’saddresseld.
