Vorsprung durch Technik.
Three words that express the
very essence of Audi.
Vorsprung durch Technik isn’t
a slogan. It’s our way of seeing
the world. It is the driving
force behind our history of
innovation that continues
into the 21st century. Indeed,
many technologies that Audi
pioneered remain in our cars
today. Some are milestones in
the history of the motorcar.
From our beginnings in 1899,
to the Auto Union team’s Grand
Prix successes in the 1930s and
our more recent wins at Le Mans,
we have always been at the
forefront of the motor industry.
Vorsprung durch Technik makes
us who we are. To see more of
its influence, just read on.

The Audi TT
is a landmark
in design.
The Audi TT is one of the most iconic cars
in our range. Both the Coupé and Roadster
are available with road-holding quattro®
all-wheel-drive and fuel-efficient TDI engines
– the same technologies that have given
us unprecedented success in the Le Mans
24-hour race. There’s also a wide choice of
alloys and optional upholsteries for ultimate
comfort. It all means that you can enjoy
driving the Audi TT purely for pleasure.

Inside the
Audi TT.
The Audi TT comes with a comprehensive
range of equipment as standard, including a
3-spoke ‘flat-bottom’ leather steering wheel,
Sports seats and electronic climate control.
There’s also a wide selection of optional
interior features, such as the Audi Music
Interface, iPod connection and electrically-
adjustable front seats, all of which you can
choose when you place your order.
Efficiency
At Audi, doing less is something we’re trying
to do more of. We’re working to use less fuel,
release less CO2 and waste less energy. It’s why
we’ve incorporated a number of more efficient
technologies into the Audi TT.
S tronic
Efficient driving is all about thinking ahead, which
is what the optional S tronic transmission does in
the Audi TT. When you’re accelerating in second
gear, it’s preparing to step up to third. Once
the switch happens, it’s already thinking about
fourth. Thanks to two clutches working together,
gear changes occur almost instantly, leading to
smoother acceleration and increased economy.
10
Aerodynamics
When we designed the Audi TT, we gave it
a smooth, flowing shape. As a result, its
drag coefficient – a measure of aerodynamic
resistance, which affects both fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions – remains
surprisingly low.
11
Engines
Petrol
There are two kinds of petrol engines available for the TT –
the standard petrol engine and the TFSI turbocharged direct-
injection engine. TFSI is a unique Audi innovation, combining
turbocharging with the FSI technology originally developed
for the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race to deliver increased
power and torque as well as enhanced fuel efficiency. The
way it does this is, in theory, very simple. Precisely the right
amount of fuel and air are injected directly into the combustion
chambers, enabling the engine to ‘breathe’ more easily. At the
same time, electronics monitor the engine load and adjust the
injection process. The result – reduced heat-loss and increased
output, with around a 15% reduction in fuel consumption and
significantly lower exhaust emissions. Ideal for the buyer who
wants a sporty, exhilarating drive without the drawbacks of
excessive fuel costs or high emissions.
Diesel
We introduced TDI to the roads in 1989, marking a departure
from the noisy, fuel-thirsty diesel engines of the past. And since
then, we’ve continuously refined it, recently developing common-
rail technology for even more efficiency and power. Under this
system, a series of piezo injectors use electrical charge to control
precisely the amount of fuel injected into the engine. As well
as reducing noise, this allows combustion to happen at a lower
temperature, with less oxygen, which cuts down emissions.

Transmission
Audi offers two transmission options to suit your requirements
and driving style. In addition to the classic manual gearbox is an
innovative, semi-automatic transmission. To help you come to
an informed decision, each of these is described in detail below.
S tronic (6-speed)
The revolutionary S tronic gearbox combines the agility
and responsiveness of a conventional 6-speed manual gearbox
with the convenience and smooth, uninterrupted power of an
automatic transmission. The technical basis of the S tronic
gearbox is the double clutch. This consists of two lubricated
plates with hydraulically-regulated contact pressure. One
engages the odd-numbered, the other the even-numbered
gears, enabling gear-shifts to be made in a fraction of a second,
with no disruption to the power flow. Depending on how the
mood takes you, you can either allow gear changes to take
place automatically or, for a sportier driving style, operate
the S tronic system using the gear-shift paddles on the
steering wheel.
Short-shift manual transmission
For fast, crisp gear changes in a sporty, manual set-up, you
can choose to specify your Audi TT with short-shift manual
transmission. This simple yet effective gear-change pattern
means that the gearstick has a shorter distance to travel
between each shift-gate, minimising the effort you have to
make with each up or down-shift, whilst maximising your
driving enjoyment.
13
quattro®
The latest generation of the tried and tested
quattro® permanent all-wheel-drive system
has been adapted for an even better response
to different driving situations.
The varying speeds of the front and rear
wheels are balanced swiftly and precisely
and the control electronics of the
electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch take
into account the various driving conditions.
14 Images are for illustrative purposes only
There’s direct drive for the front wheels via
a differential gear and the multi-plate clutch
controls the torque for the rear wheels.
The map control for the multi-plate clutch
allows extremely fast torque build-up,
ensuring stability in bends and when driving
in a straight line.

TTS model equipment
Since its launch, the Audi TT has become
a motoring icon. There’s no mistaking its
sleek curves and unique form, but there’s
something extra-special about the new TTS.
It features 18” alloy wheels and a sports
exhaust system. Its athletic 2.0-litre TFSI
engine delivers 350 Nm of torque and is
capable of taking you from 0 to 62mph in just
5.2 seconds. For this model, a number of key
engine components were re-engineered in
order to optimise performance and handling.
The result: an even more dynamic and
responsive TT.
