1 OVERVIEW
The UniFi AC Pro AP (model UAP-AC-PRO) is a gigabit, 802.3af-powered access point (AP) with unlimited
scalability under one central controller. This APis suitable for high-density network traffic requiring high
uptime and low latency, and allows for remote access to monitor and upgrade deployed devices.
This document covers setting up the software and network on the AP and wireless client devices for use as a
SquirrelMobility network. It does not cover configuring the APfor use with a UniFi Cloud Key or UniFi
Controller management station as these devices are not yet certified by Squirrel. These devices may be
integrated with the AP into a full-scale network solution at a later date, at which point this document will be
updated to include them.
For mounting setup instructions, refer to the UniFi AC Pro AP's Quick Start Guide, included in the AP's
packaging.
2 REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Hardware / Network
l A separately-installed router or switch.
l A DHCP-enabled network (for the APto obtain anIPaddress to broadcast to wireless clients).
l If the router or switch is not 802.3af/802.3at PoE+ compliant, a power-over-ethernet (PoE) converter is
required to power the device.
2.2 Software
l Linux, Mac OS X 10.11 (or above), or Microsoft Windows 7/8/10
l Java Runtime 1.8+
l Google Chrome

release the lock tab.
l Secondary Port: A Gigabit Ethernet port used for bridging.
l Reset Button: The reset button has two functions:
o
Restart: Press and quickly release the restart button to restart the device.
o
Restore to Factory Default Settings: Press and hold the restart button for more than five
seconds.
l USBPort
l Main Port: A Gigabit Ethernet port used to connect to power and LAN.

4 CONNECTING DEVICE(S)
To access the ports on the device, turn the mounting cover counter-clockwise to unlock it from the device.
Afterwards, remove the rubber port cover. Replace these parts after connecting the Ethernet cord to the
primary port.
4.1 Connecting Device to PoE+ Compliant Router
If the router or switch being used is 802.3af/802.3at PoE+ compliant, connect the UnFi APdirectly to the
router/switch's PoE+ port. A regular PoE port provides insufficient wattage to power the device. Ensure that
the port is PoE+ compliant.

4.2 Connecting Device to Router with a PoE Adapter
Plug the PoE adapter into the wall power socket (or mount it using the instructions provided in the packaging),
then connect the LANport to the router/switch and the POEport to the UnFi AP's main port.

7 NETWORK SETUP (USING A SQUIRREL NETWORK OR NO
DHCPSERVER)
7.1 UniFi Controller Software Configuration
It is recommended to provision all access points on a live, internet-enabled network before connecting to a
local-network-only Squirrel NIC / IP range. When connected to the internet, the APapplies updates that
permit the adoption of devices to the new version of the UniFi Controller.
1. Modify the PC or Squirrel server's IPaddress.
l On a dual-NIC Squirrel Server, plug into the NIC 2/Office Port. If a live, internet-enabled
network is available, allow the DHCP server to assign the server an IP address.
l If no internet enabled network is available, assign one NIC on the PC (NIC2 on the Squirrel
server) a temporary IP address in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet. e.g. 192.168.1.234).
a. Navigate to Control Panel> Network And Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
b. On the left pane, click Change adapter settings.
c. Right-click the network adapter and select Properties.
d. Select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) option and click the Properties
button.
e. Record all information in this screen. You will need to revert back to these settings later.
f. Set the IP address to an address in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet. (e.g. 192.168.1.234)
g. Set the Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.
h. Click OK.
i. Click Close.
2. If the UnFi Controller software is not open after the installation or has been closed, run it from the start
menu.
3. Click Launch a Browser to Manager theNetwork.
NOTE: If Chrome is not set up as your default browser, open Chrome and navigate to
https://localhost:8443/ in the Chrome browser instead.
