Intermec Application Server. The Intermec Gateway comes

loaded on the Intermec Application Server. Your Intermec

Application Server may be a DCS 300D, DCS 301D, DCS

302D, G4000A, or G4000B.

005 08/2005 Updated to support Intermec Gateway v1.5. Increased the

maximum number of simultaneous sessions to 300. Added

that if you upgrade software with the Server Applications

CD, your configuration is saved during the upgrade.

Recommended that Trakker Antares UDP Plus terminals

run firmware version 8.01.13 or later. Added a chapter on

using the Intermec Gateway in a dcBrowser environment.

Clarified the differences between WTP and UDP Plus start-

up packets. Removed references to G4100 and Wavelink

Avalanche. Added the CK31 handheld computer to

Chapters 1 and 2.

006 05/2007

Updated to support dual-session TE 2000 on Trakker

Antares terminals over the UDP Plus network. Added the

restriction that UDP Plus device logical names may be a

maximum of 14 characters. Added information for newer

computer products such as the CN2B, CN3, and CV30.

Who Should Read This Document?

This manual contains all of the information necessary to install,

configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the Intermec

Gateway.

This manual was written for users who want to know more

about the Intermec Gateway. It was also written for applications

analysts, systems engineers, and programmers who will operate,

program, and troubleshoot the Intermec Gateway in a network.

A basic understanding of data communications and networks is

necessary.

If you need help configuring, managing, or troubleshooting the

Intermec Gateway, you can use this user’s guide and the online

help from the Intermec Gateway home page.

User’s Guide

This user’s guide provides some introductory information about

the Intermec Gateway and explains how to configure it for your

network. This guide also provides an overview of how to

configure the Intermec Gateway, manage it, and troubleshoot it.

from the Intermec Gateway home page. The Welcome page

appears with Contents and Index tabs.

Using the Intermec Gateway

in a Telnet Environment

Use this chapter to get your Intermec Gateway ready to work in

a Telnet environment. This chapter contains the following

topics:

The Intermec Gateway in a Telnet Environment

The Intermec Gateway lets UDP Plus or WTP data collection

devices that are running Telnet terminal emulation (TE) clients

(VTXXX/ANSI, TN5250, or TN3270) send information to and

receive data from the Ethernet network. The Intermec Gateway

comes loaded on the Intermec Application Server.

Note: The Intermec Gateway does not support Intermec 900

MHz clients, 900 MHz SST clients, 400 MHz S-UHF clients,

and CrossBar™ clients.

The Intermec Gateway supports most Intermec Telnet clients,

Norand terminal emulation clients (in Telnet mode), and the

TE 2000™ terminal emulation application clients (in Telnet

mode). These devices can connect to IP hosts that support

Telnet applications and are connected to the Ethernet network.

The Intermec Gateway supports dual session TE 2000 on

Trakker Antares terminals over UDP Plus.

Determining the Maximum Number of Sessions Supported

The Intermec Gateway supports up to 300 simultaneous

connections, which may be a combination of UDP Plus and

WTP devices connecting to any number of Telnet hosts. You

can configure more than 300 devices, but only the first 300

sessions attempting to connect will be allowed to connect.

These restrictions apply:

• The Intermec Gateway supports up to 300 simultaneous

UDP Plus connections. If a Trakker Antares terminal is

configured to run two separate TE 2000 sessions over the

UDP Plus network, it uses two of the possible 300

connections and requires two licenses.

• The Intermec Gateway supports up to 127 simultaneous

WTP connections. If a WTP device is configured to support

two sessions (for example, connecting to two hosts), it uses

two of the 127 possible connections and requires two licenses.

Defining the Telnet Host

Defining the Telnet host for your Intermec Gateway consists of

these steps:

1 Install the Intermec Gateway licenses.

2 Open the Intermec Gateway home page.

3 Define an IP host and Telnet port.

These steps are described in detail in the following sections.

Installing the Intermec Gateway Licenses

Before you can use your Intermec Gateway in a Telnet

environment, you need to purchase and install an Intermec

Gateway license for each session that will connect through the

Intermec Gateway. For example:

• If a Trakker Antares terminal is configured to run two

separate TE 2000 sessions over the UDP Plus network, the

terminal will require two licenses.

• If a WTP device is configured to support two sessions (for

example, connecting to two hosts), that WTP device will

require two licenses.

For help installing the licenses, see the Intermec Gateway License

Instructions (P/N 072960) that shipped with the Intermec

Gateway license disk.

Note: Before you install the licenses, Intermec allows one session

to connect to the Intermec Gateway for development purposes

only.

Opening the Intermec Gateway Home Page

Before you can open the Intermec Gateway home page, you

need to install the Intermec Application Server and assign the IP

address. For help, see the Intermec Application Server User’s

Guide (P/N 072242).

Note: If you access the Internet by using a proxy server, you

MUST add the IP address of the Intermec Application Server to

your Exceptions list. The Exceptions list contains the addresses

that you do not want to use with a proxy server.

To open the Intermec Gateway home page

1 Start Internet Explorer on your PC.

2 In the Address field, type:

http://serverip

where serverip is the IP address for the Intermec Application

Server.

3 Press Enter. If a security screen appears, enter

administrator in the User Name field and intermec in

the Password field, and click OK. You must type

intermec

in lowercase. The Intermec Application Server home page

appears.

4 From the list of installed gateway applications, select

Intermec Gateway. The Intermec Gateway home page

appears.

From the Intermec Gateway home page, you can configure and

manage your Gateway. A navigation menu runs across the top of

all Gateway web pages. The menu links are described in the

following table. Click Intermec Gateway Home to return to the

home page at any time.

Defining an IP Host and Telnet Port

The Intermec Gateway communicates to the IP hosts through

the Ethernet network. To connect the Intermec Gateway to the

IP host, you must first connect the Intermec Application Server

to the Ethernet network. For help, see the Intermec Application

Server User’s Guide. This section provides an overview for

configuring the IP host and Telnet port. For detailed

instructions, see the online help.

To connect to the IP host

1 From the Intermec Gateway home page, click

Configuration. If a security screen appears, type

administrator in the User Name field and intermec in

the Password field, and click OK. You must type
