Read all the instructions carefully before using the unit and keep them for future reference.
Retain the manual. If you pass the unit onto a third party make sure to include this manual.
Check that the voltage marked on the rating label matches your mains voltage.

Damage
Please inspect the unit for damage after unpacking.
Do not continue to operate the unit if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is
damaged in any way - switch o, disconnect from the mains supply and consult your dealer.
Location of Unit
The unit must be placed on a at, stable surface and should not be subjected to vibrations.
Do not place the unit on sloped or unstable surfaces as the unit may fall o or tip over.
The mains socket must be located near the unit and should be easily accessible.
Temperature
Avoid extreme degrees of temperature, either hot or cold. Place the unit well away from heat
sources such as radiators or gas/electric res.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.
Naked Flames
Never place any type of candle or naked ame on the top of or near the unit.
Moisture
To reduce the risk of re, electric shock or product damage, do not expose this unit to rain,
moisture, dripping or splashing. No objects lled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed
on the unit.
If you spill any liquid into the unit, it can cause serious damage. Switch it o at the mains
immediately. Disconnect from the mains supply and consult your dealer.
Ventilation
To prevent the risk of electric shock or re hazard due to overheating, ensure that curtains and
other materials do not obstruct the ventilation vents.
Do not install or place this unit in a bookcase, built-in cabinet or in another conned space.
Ensure the unit is well ventilated.
Safety
Always disconnect the unit from the mains supply before connecting/ disconnecting other
devices or moving the unit.
Unplug the unit from the mains socket during a lightning storm.
Mains Adapter
Use this appliance only with the supplied AC Adapter. Using non-approved power supplies
will void the warranty.
Mains Supply: The mains operating voltage of this unit is marked on a rating plate on the AC
adapter.
The means of disconnecting this appliance from the mains supply is the mains plug/AC
adapter. This should be unobstructed and readily accessible at all times.
The mains adapter will continue to draw electricity from the mains supply when plugged in
the mains socket. In the interests of safety and to avoid unnecessary energy consumption,
never leave the adapter plugged in the mains socket while unattended for long periods of
time. Disconnect the adapter from the power supply.

Earphones
Listening to loud sounds for prolonged periods of time may permanently
damage your hearing.
Before putting on earphones, turn the volume down then put the earphones on
and slowly increase the volume until you reach a comfortable listening level.
Supervision
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the unit.
Never let anyone especially children push anything into the holes, slots or any other openings
in the case - this could result in a fatal electric shock.
The lightning ash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is
intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage
within the unit’s enclosure that may be of sucient magnitude to constitute a
risk of electric shock.
The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the
user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing)
instructions in the manual accompanying the unit.
Service
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove screws. The unit does not contain any user-
serviceable parts. Please leave all maintenance work to qualied personnel.
Do not open any xed covers as this may expose dangerous voltages.
Maintenance
Ensure to unplug the unit from the power supply before cleaning.
Do not use any type of abrasive pad or abrasive cleaning solutions as these may damage the
unit’s surface.
Do not use liquids to clean the unit.
Mains Adapter Cable
Make sure the unit is not resting on top of the mains adapter cable, as the weight of the
unit may damage the cable and create a safety hazard.
Batteries
The speaker uses batteries. Batteries (a battery pack or installed batteries) shall not be subject
to excessive heat such as sunshine, re or the like.
Do not service the internal battery. Have it examined (and replaced if needed) by a competent
service centre.
Batteries used in this unit are easily swallowed by young children and this is dangerous.
Keep loose batteries away from young children and make sure that the battery holder
compartments are secure. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed.
Please dispose of batteries correctly by following the guidance in this manual.
Interference
Do not place the unit on or near appliances which may cause electromagnetic interference. If
you do, it may adversely aect the operating performance of the unit, and cause a distorted
picture or sound.

Your DAB radio features both DAB band reception and an FM band for areas that may
not have DAB broadcasts.
The radio may be powered from the mains via an AC adapter (supplied) or by batteries
for fully portable operation.
The alarm feature enables you to wake to music from the radio or to a beeper sound.
A headphone socket is provided for personal listening.

Unpacking
Remove all packaging from the unit. Retain the packaging. If you dispose of it please do so
according to local regulations.
These items are included:

DAB/FM Aerial
Always unclip and fully extend the aerial when listening to DAB or FM radio.
The aerial has a swivel base so can be set to dierent angles for best reception.
Fully extend the aerial before
connecting power for the rst time.
This will ensure that the initial scan
captures all stations in your area.

Mains Power
This unit is designed only to operate with the supplied AC adapter.
Connecting the radio to any other power source may damage it.
Unwind the AC adapter cable to its full length.
Connect the plug at the end of the cable to the DC IN Socket on the back of the radio.
Plug the AC adapter into a mains socket and switch the socket on (if necessary).
The unit is now connected and ready to use.
To switch the unit o completely, unplug the mains adapter from the mains socket.
Standby Control
When you rst connect the radio to the mains socket, the radio will be in standby.
Press STANDBY to switch the unit on or to switch the unit to standby mode when on.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the mains socket if you want to switch the unit o
completely.

Fitting Batteries
You can t batteries (not supplied) to your radio for portable operation.
Press the battery cover catches (arrowed).

Lift o the battery cover.
Fit 4 x ‘C’/LR14 batteries into the battery compartment, observing polarity as shown.
Re-t the battery cover.
Dispose of used batteries with regard to the recycling regulations in your area. Do NOT
short circuit batteries or throw them into water, the general rubbish or in a re.

Mode Select
Press MODE repeatedly to switch between DAB and FM mode.
FM will be displayed when you are in FM mode.
Basic Operation
Volume Control
Turn the VOLUME dial to adjust the volume to the level you want.
The volume level will be displayed on a bargraph.
If you move your radio to another area you may need to scan the DAB band and re-fresh
the station list.
If the scan is unsuccessful, you may need to ‘Factory Reset the radio. This will clear the
station list and preset memories and run a fresh scan.
See page 10 for more details of scanning.
See page 18 for more details of factory reset.
Setting the Clock
The time and date are set automatically from DAB station information.

Set the radio to DAB mode.
The radio will tune to the last station played.
The station name and scrolling information text will be displayed.
Listening to DAB Radio
Browsing Stations
Press } or { to browse up or down the station list for the station you want. When you
nd a station that you want to listen to press the SELECT/SNOOZE button.
Secondary Services
A > symbol after the name of a station indicates there are secondary services available for
that station. These secondary services are related to the primary station, e.g. a sports station
may want to add extra commentaries.
The secondary services are inserted directly after the primary station in the station list.
To select a secondary station, browse to the secondary service you want, then press
SELECT/SNOOZE to select it.
A > symbol is displayed before the station name if a station is a secondary service.
If the secondary service ends, the unit will automatically switch back to the primary station.
A Full Scan will scan the whole of the DAB band and nd all the DAB stations in your area.
You can also perform a Full Scan to scan for new DAB stations if you have moved your radio.
The stations will be added to your station list.
While listening to DAB radio, press SCAN to start a Full Scan.
The scan will take a few minutes. While the scan is running, the scan progress will be shown and
the number of stations found will be displayed.

When the scan nishes, the radio will play the rst station in the sequence.

If no stations are found, switch the radio o and move it to a location with a stronger
signal. When you switch the radio back on it will automatically repeat the scan process.

DLS (Dynamic Label Segment)
Dynamic Label Segment is a scrolling message that
the broadcaster may include with their transmissions.
The message usually includes information, such as
programme details etc.
Multiplex Number and Frequency
A multiplex is a collection of radio stations that are
bundled and transmitted on one frequency. There are
national and local multiplexes. Local ones contain stations
that are specic to that area.
The channel and frequency of the present station will be
displayed, such as “11C 220.352MHz.
Programme Type
This describes the “Style” or “Genre of music that is being
broadcast e.g. “Rock” or “Classical.
Time/Date
The broadcaster (radio station) provides clock and date
information automatically so there’s no need to manually
set this information.

Set the radio to FM mode.
The radio will tune to the last station played.
The station name or frequency and scrolling information text will be displayed.
Automatic Tuning
Searching up the band
Press SCAN to search up the band for the next station.
Once a station has been found, scanning will stop automatically.
Searching down the band
Press and hold SCAN to search down the band for the next station.
Once a station has been found, scanning will stop automatically.
Manual Tuning
Press } or { to tune up or down the band in frequency steps of 50kHz.
Press and hold the button to tune larger frequency steps.
RDS (Radio Data System)
Your radio can receive RDS data, broadcast with some FM stations.
When you tune to a station broadcasting RDS data, the station name and information text
will be displayed.
FM audio mode
If you can hear a lot of background noise when playing a station, the signal may be weak.
You may be able to improve the signal strength by adjusting the position of the telescopic
aerial or moving the radio to a dierent position.
If this doesn’t help and the noise persists, switching to FM mono reception will reduce the
background noise.
Press SELECT/SNOOZE repeatedly to switch between FM Auto and FM Mono modes.
NOTE:- FM mono will not give the spatial sound benets of FM stereo, but will always play
with less background noise.
After scanning for a station you can use
manual tuning to ne-tune for the best
signal.
Not all FM stations transmit RDS
information.

The broadcaster can include a scrolling text
that displays information about the current
programme.
Programme Type
This describes the “Style” or “Genre of
music that is being broadcast e.g. “Rock or
“Classical”.
Audio Mode
When in FM mode, the display will show
if the station being received is in Mono or
Auto modes. In Auto mode the receiver will
automatically switch between Stereo and
Mono reception. You can however override
this function, so that you can manually
switch to Mono mode, which is helpful if
youre listening to a station with a weak
FM signal.
Time/Date
The broadcaster (radio station) provides
time and date information automatically
so theres no need to manually set this
information.
Programme Name
The name of the radio station will be
displayed.

You can store up to 10 of your favourite stations as presets on both the DAB and FM bands.
This will enable you to access your favourite stations quickly and easily.
Saving Preset Stations
1. Tune to the station you want to save.
2. Press and hold PRESET until the ‘Preset Save/Empty screen appears, then release the
PRESET button.
1. Press } or { to choose a preset location to store the station. The display will show if a
preset number has already been set.
2. Press SELECT/SNOOZE to conrm.
The display will conrm that the preset is stored.
Re-tune to more of your favourite stations and follow the steps above to store up to 10
presets on each band.
Recalling a Preset Station
Press PRESET.
The last preset station and preset number played will be shown on the bottom line of the
display.
if you want to choose a dierent preset station to play.
Press } or { to choose a dierent preset. If a preset position has not been set the word
‘Empty will be displayed.
Press SELECT/SNOOZE (within 3-4 seconds) when the preset station you want to play is
displayed.
The preset station will be played.

Connecting Earphones
Turn down the volume before connecting your earphones.
Connect your earphones to the
socket on the back panel.
When earphones are connected, the speaker is automatically muted.
Listening to Earphones
Slowly raise the volume with the earphones on.
Long-term exposure to loud music may cause hearing damage. It is best to avoid
extreme volume when using earphones, especially for extended periods of time.

You can set the Sleep mode timer to play the radio for a preset time, then automatically set
the radio to Standby.
While the radio is playing.
Press ALARM/SLEEP.
Sleep Timer and ‘SLEEP 10’ will be displayed.
Press } or { to set the Sleep mode time that you want.
Choose from 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 or 90 minutes. Set to 00 to switch sleep o.
Press SELECT/SNOOZE to conrm.
The sleep time setting will be conrmed on the display and will count down until the radio sets
to Standby.

Your radio includes 2 separate alarms that can be set to wake you at a preset time.
The alarm must be set when the radio is in Standby.
Setting the Alarm times
1. With the radio in standby, press and hold
ALARM/SLEEP.
AL 1 (alarm 1)’ will be displayed and the hours in the
time will be ashing.

2. Press } or { to select the hour you want the
alarm to sound then press ALARM/SLEEP. The
minutes will now start to ash
3. Press } or { to select the minute you want the
alarm to sound then press ALARM/SLEEP.
The word Buzz will now start to ash.
4. Press } or { to select what you want to sound
when the alarm goes o. Buzz (a buzzing
sound), FM (FM radio) or DAB (DAB radio) then
press ALARM/SLEEP.
AL2 will now appear, this is the second alarm.
You don’t have to set a second alarm if you
don’t want to. If you do want to sent the second
alarm repeat stages 2-4 above.
Alarm 1 and 2 have dierent icons
so you can see which alarm is set.

Activating the Alarms
You can set alarm 1 on its own or alarm 2 on its
own or both.
1. With the radio in standby, press ALARM/SLEEP.
Alarm 1 will be displayed and the word OFF will be
ashing.
2. Press } or { to select ON. In a few seconds the
will appear in the display.
3. To activate alarm 2 press ALARM/SLEEP twice.
Alarm 2 will be displayed and the word OFF will be
ashing.
4. Press } or { to select ON. In a few seconds the
will appear in the display.

Alarm
When waking to radio, be sure to tune to a station and fully extend the aerial.
Make sure that you set the alarm volume level high enough to wake you!
When the Alarm Sounds
To stop the alarm sounding:
Press STANDBY to stop the alarm sounding.
To set Snooze mode:
Press SELECT/SNOOZE.
When Snooze mode is set the alarm will stop sounding for the snooze period of 9 minutes.
When the snooze time expires the alarm will sound again.
You can now set Snooze mode again or press STANDBY to cancel Snooze mode and
switch the alarm o.
When you got to bed
If you have selected the radio to switch on as your alarm, select the volume level of your
radio before you go to bed. When the alarm sounds the sound will build until it reaches
the volume level that you last listened to your radio at.
Set the radio to Standby.
The alarm icon will be displayed in Standby when the alarm is set to wake you.

Software Version and Factory Reset
The Software Version function will display the software version used in your radio. The
information may be useful to a service engineer.
The Factory Reset function will delete all station lists, radio presets and alarm settings. It
may also be necessary to reset your radio when you move to another area. This will enable
the radio to erase and re-acquire the new station list.
Software version display:
Press and hold INFO.
The software version will be displayed.
After 10 seconds the software version display will clear.
To continue and reset the radio:
Press and hold MODE.
System Reset will be displayed.
Press SELECT/SNOOZE if you want to continue.
‘System Reset’ will be displayed.
After a short delay, the radio will re-start and perform a scan.
A new DAB station list will be saved and all preset station memories will be erased.
