3 Introduction
Aolynk EP302 IP Phone (hereinafter referred to as the EP302) is specially designed for
business users. With elegant appearance and rich features, the EP302 works together
with an XE series IP PBX to present a wonderful VoIP world to users.
The EP302 provides slightly different functions, LCD displays and menu items when
working with different IP PBXs (XE2000 series and XE7000 series).
This manual describes the functions and menus of the EP302 when working with an
XE7000 series IP PBX. It also describes the slight differences in functions and menus
when the EP302 works with an XE2000 series IP PBX.
To simplify description, we use “EP302-XE7000” to refer to the scenario that the EP302
works with an XE7000 series IP PBX, and use “EP302-XE2000” to refer to the scenario

7 Using the Phone
The operations on the EP302 to receive a call, use the speaker phone function and redial
a number are the same as on other regular phones, and thus will not be elaborated in this
manual. The following sections describe other common functions of the EP302.
7.1.1 Place a call
Pick up the handset, dial the number and press the Call soft key.
Whether or not you need to press the Call soft key to place a call depends on the dial
rules on the IP PBX.
7.1.2 Use the user directory
Note: The EP302-XE2000 does not have the UsrDir soft key in its main menu and
standby screen and does not support the user directory service described
in this section.
To view the user directory or dial a number from it, press the UsrDir soft key in the
standby mode and select the global directory or local directory.
7.1.3 View the call records
To view the call records, press the Record soft key in the standby mode.
7.1.4 Forward calls to the voice mailbox
Note: The EP302-XE2000 does not support voice mailbox and thus does not have
the call forward to voice mailbox function.
With this function enabled, all incoming calls will be forwarded to the voice mailbox. The
phone will ring once when a call comes in, and the call is then forwarded to the voice
mailbox (the caller will hear a voice prompt asking him/her to leave a message).
To enable/disable the Call Forward to Voice Mailbox function, press the VMAIL (
) key
on the phone.
7.1.5 Put a call on hold
The call hold function allows you to answer or place a new call without terminating the
on-going call. When this function is used, neither party of the original call can hear the
other side.
To put a call on hold, press the HOLD key during an on-going call. The corresponding line
switch LED starts to blink slowly. To resume the call, press the HOLD key again.
For example, if you are on a call with user A and you want to place a call to user B, but
you do not want to lose the current call with user A, you can do the following.
Step Operation
1 Put the call with user A on hold.
8
2 Press the line key for the call to user B, and dial user B’s telephone number.
3
When finishing talking with user B, press the line key corresponding to the
call with user A to resume the call with user A and end the call with user B at
the same time.
7.1.6 Use the call waiting function
With this function enabled, you can answer a new call (the call status LED and line switch
LED start to blink) during an on-going call without terminating the current call, and you
can switch between these two calls.
Caution: Before switching a call, you should put the current call on hold. Otherwise, the
current call will be ended.
Step Operation
1 You are on a call and a second call comes in.
2 Press the
HOLD
key to put the current call on hold.
3 Press the line key corresponding to the second call to answer it.
4 To switch between these two calls, repeat steps 2 and 3.
Caution: Before you switch to another line, you need to put the current line on
hold. Otherwise, the current line will be terminated.
7.1.7 Transfer a call
This feature allows you to transfer an on-going call with one party to another, so that a call
is established between the other two parties. Call transfer functions are classified into
attended transfer (not supported by the EP302-XE2000) and unattended transfer. The
following section describes unattended transfer.
Step Operation
1
You are on a call with one party (user A), and you want to transfer the call to
another party (user B).
2 Press the
TRANSFER
key.
3 Enter the telephone number of another party (user B).
4
Press the
TRANSFER
key again. Your phone returns to the standby mode
and you can hang up.
9
7.1.8 Use the three-party conference function
During a call, you can create a conference call to let a third party join the call. There are
two types of three-party conferences: announced and unannounced. The following table
describes how to create an announced three-party conference.
Step Operation
1
You are on a call with one party (user A), and you want to invite another
party (user B) to join the call.
2 Press the
CONFERENCE
key to put the call with user A on hold.
3
Dial user B’s telephone number. After user B answers the call and agrees to
join the conference call, press the
CONFERENCE
key again. The
three-party conference is established, and the indicator and duration of the
conference call appear on the screen.
7.1.9 Adjust volumes
z Handset: Pick up the handset. Press VOL+ to increase the volume and press VOL- to
decrease the volume.
z Ringer: Without picking up the handset, press VOL+ to increase the volume and
press VOL- to decrease the volume.
z Speaker: Press the Speaker key. Press VOL+ to increase the volume and press
VOL- to decrease the volume.

8 FAQs
8.1.1 How can I enter alphabetic characters in the LCD configuration
mode?
The EP302 provides a similar input method as a cell phone for you to input alphabetic
characters. The number keys on the keypad can also be used to input letters.
For example, the number key 2 can be used to input “2”, and also letters a, b, c, A, B, and
C. Press 2 once to enter “2”, and press 2 quickly two, three, four, five, six, and seven
times to enter letters a, b, c, A, B, and C respectively.
If you want to enter two different characters that are located on the same key, input the
first one and wait a while (about 2 seconds) before inputting the second one.
8.1.2 How can I have my EP302 powered through PoE?
The LAN port of the EP302 supports PoE, while the PC port does not. So the EP302 can
be powered through the LAN port and the network cable without the need of an external
power supply. If the Ethernet access device to which the EP302 is attached supports PoE,
you can connect one end of the network cable to the LAN port of the EP302 and the other
end to the PoE port of the access device. In this case, the EP302 is powered through the
network cable.
8.1.3 Why can’t I do some settings when the phone is offline?
Many voice service settings of the EP302 are stored on the IP PBX, so operations
concerning setup modification are not supported in offline state.
8.1.4 Why does my phone still display “Offline” or “Logging in” or
“Logging out” after I complete the registration configuration?
Check that the network cable connection is correct, and the account information and
network settings that you configured are consistent with the network administrator’s
requirements. If both items are correct and the problem still exists, please contact your
network administrator for help.
8.1.5 How can I restore the EP302 to default settings?
In step 3 of the phone setup, select 8. Restore Default, and then follow the instructions
to restore the EP302 to default settings.
