When you register with a service provider, you
receiveaSubscriberIdentityModule(SIM)
card.YourphonemusthaveaSIMcardinorder
tomakecalls.TheSIMcardisacomputerchip
that contains your phone number, phonebook
information,andserviceproviderinformation.
Handleitwithcareanddonotbenditorexpose
ittostaticelectricityordirt.Besurethepower
to your phone is off before you insert your SIM
card.
The SIM card and the microSD
cardslotsare
situatedunderneaththebattery.
1. Slidethecoverinthe
directionofthearrow.
Liftandsetitaside.
2. InserttheSIMcard
andslideitintothe
holderuntilitts.The
goldcontactsofthe
SIMcardshouldface
down and the notched
edgeshouldbeonthe
topleftcorner.

Ittakesafewhourstofullychargeabattery
forthersttime.Forbestbatteryperformance,
allowthebatterytochargeanddischarge
completelytherstfewtimesyouuseit.
In charging
When the phone is turned on, the animation on
theupperrightcornerofthescreenwillindicate
thechargingprogress.Thephoneisworkable
when the battery is charged, but it may take
twicethetimetofullychargethebattery.
Whenthephoneisturnedoff,theanimationwill
appear on the screen to indicate the charging
progress.Thephonecanbeturnedonforuse
whenthebatteryischarged.
Low battery indicators
The battery indicator on the upper right corner
of the screen indicates how much charge
remainsinthebattery.Whenthebatteryislow,
thephonewillbeepandthemessage“battery
low”willappearonthescreen.
NOTE:Ifthebatteryhasbeendeeplydischarged,itmaytake
thebatterylevelindicatorseveralminutestodisplay.
Turning the phone on/off
To turn the phone on:
• Flipopenthephone.
Hold down the power/end Holddownthepower/end keyuntil
thescreenlightsup.
If needed, enter your SIM card PIN code
andpresstheEnterkey.
To turn the phone off:
Press the power/end keyandhold
untilthephoneshutsdown.
NOTE:IfyousetanalarmusingtheOrganizermenu,thenturn
offthephone,thephonewillturnitselfonwhenthealarmis
activated.Afteryoudisablethealarm,thephonepromptsyouif
youwanttokeepthephoneturnedonoroff.SeetheOrganizer
sectionfordetailsaboutsettinganalarm.
CAUTION:
• UseonlythebatteriesandchargersapprovedbyASUSor
elsedamagemayoccurtothemobilephone.
• Youcanalsochargethebatterybyconnectingthephoneto
acomputerusingthesuppliedUSBcable.

When your phone is on, but not in use, it is in
standbymode.Duringstandbymode,theupper
partofthedisplayscreenshowsvariousicons.
Thetimeanddatearedisplayedatthelower
centerofthescreen.Underthedateandtime
are MenuontheleftcornerandNames on the
rightcorner.Presstheleftsoftkey to view
the main menu, and the right soft key to view
thephonebook.

To view the main menu, go to standby mode,
thenpresstheleftsoftkey orenterkey.
Followthesetipstonavigatethroughthemenu
andmenuoptions.

Text entry
When you add names to your phone book,
send a text message, or use your WAP
browser,youneedtoentertext.Yourcellphone
hasseveraltextentrymethods.Youcanenter
lettersindividuallyorwithpredictivetextentry,
whichhelpsyoucompletewordsasyouenter
them.Youcanenterlettersinuppercase,lower
case,orboth,orinsertsymbols.

Choosing text entry methods
From any text entry screen, such as a text
messagewindow,selectOptions > Input
Method.
ABC input
ABCinputenablesyoutoenterindividual
lettersonebyone.Thisisidealforaddinga
phonebookentryorenteringaWAPaddress.
When you press a key, the characters assigned
tothekeyappearonthescreen.Pressthekey
repeatedlytoscrollthroughthesecharacters.
Pauseforamomentandtheselectedletter
appearsonthescreen.Forpractice,trycreating
atextmessage(SMS)asfollows:
From the menu, go to Messages > SMS >
Write Message.Beforeenteringtext,press
Options > Input Method, andselectABC
Input.
Toenterthewords“myphone”intothetext
entryarea,followthesesteps:
1. Press6toselectm.
2. Press9threetimestoselecty.
3. Press0followedbyOKtoenteraspace.
4. Press7 to enter p, then press 4 twice to
enter h.Continueinthisfashionuntilthe
word“phone”isentered.
Smart Abc
Smart Abc is a predictive text entry method,
whichusesabuilt-indictionarytopredictthe
wordyouaretyping.Youcanchoosethe
correctwordbypressingthekeysrepetitively
andscrollingthroughthewordssuggested
bythephone.Byreducingthenumberof
keystrokes,thesmartAbchelpssomeusersto
typemessagesmorequickly.
Wheneveryoupressakey,alistofpossible
characters or character combinations is
created.Toentertext,usetheupand
downnavigationkeystondthecharacter
combinationyouwant.Presstheright
navigationkeyor#keytoproceedenteringthe
nextcharacter.Ifyoumakeamistake,press
Clear.

With this method, you can enter various types

In the General Download section,
clickSearch.Alistofdownloaditems
appears.Downloadthermwaretoyour
PC.Executethele,thenclickUpgrade.
3. PlugoneendoftheUSBcabletothePC.
Press keyonthehandset,thenplug
theotherendofthecabletothemini-
USBsocketonthehandset.Theupgrade
programwillautomaticallydetectthe
COMportandexecuteitself.
4. Whenthemessage“Burningnished”
appears,clickExit.
