About this Manual
As Sailmon is continuously improving their products, we retain the right to make changes to our products at any
time which may not be reflected in this version of the manual.
This manual is a guide to installing the Sailmon MODEL | E4. The Manual assumes that the
Installer has basic knowledge of DC electrical systems, wiring and common installation practices.
If in doubt always ask SAILMON or your dealer for assistance.

Calibration
The Sailmon system is an electronic aid and is designed to assist in navigation and reading measurement
values. Incorrect calibration can lead to false and inaccurate readings placing the yacht into possible danger.!

Electrical supply
This equipment is designed for use with a power supply source of 12-24 Vdc. The application of any other
power supply may result in permanent damage to the equipment.
It’s the installers responsibility to ensure the diameter of the cables from the battery to the switching panel and
from the switching panel to the SAILMON products is sufficient.
For any questions contact Sailmon support at [email protected]
Avoid excessive voltage drop due to improper cable diameter.
Cut the cable to the correct length.
Do not make rings of excessive cable inside the switching panel or elsewhere.
Best efficiency and lowest battery consumption is achieved when optimizing cable length to a
minimum.
THE MINIMUM VOLTAGE ON THE MODEL | E4 CONNECTOR MUST NOT FALL BELOW 9.0 VOLTS. UNDER
VOLTAGE WILL CAUSE SYSTEM RESET AND SYSTEM INSTABILITY.!
Large currents due to switching of electrical winches or other high power devices will cause under voltages for a
short time. Model E4 will handle this short-term voltage drop if the voltage stays well above 6.5 Volts. A voltage
below 6.5 Volts will result in immediate reset and reboot.

Getting Started
It’s time to get to business! At Sailmon we have tried very hard to make installation as easy as possible. So let’s
get started quickly.
In this installation guide we assume you have already planned your installation, and already have installed your
sensors.
This manual does not cover the installation of sensors.
Sailmon interfaces with the sensors you have installed and uses that data to crunch the numbers.
If you have any questions about planning your Sailmon equipment or where to place your sensors, don’t
hesitate to contact the Sailmon Team at [email protected].
Communication protocol
The Sailmon instruments communicate using standard 100Mbps ethernet allowing for very fast and
flexible integration.
Each device is a DHCP client which allows our system to be integrated in the ships network. All
system control is done using our Nav | desk application.

NEVER CONNECT THE NMEA 2000 NETWORK POWER CABLE TO A 24V BATTERY SYSTEM. NMEA2000 NODES ARE
NOT 24V COMPATIBLE. USE A 24V TO 12V CONVERTER FOR USING NMEA2000 IN A 24V BATTERY SYSTEM. ASK
SAILMON SUPPORT IF IN DOUBT.
WARNING: EACH MODEL E4 PORT MUST BE SET DURING INSTALLATION. USE THE SAILMON TOOL ON THE PC FOR
SETTING THE CORRECT PORT OPTION BEFORE CONNECTING THE CABLE TO THE PORT TO AVOID DAMAGE.

Power on for the first time.
You have now successfully installed the Sailmon model | E4 Instrument system, If you power up model | E4 will
automatically select available sensors, If there is more then one sensor you need to select a sensor in Navdesk.
1. Download the Sailmon Apps from the App Store on your Smart device or from sailmon.com/support for
your PC.
2. Power the Sailmon instruments
3. Connect your computer or smart device directly to the E4, this can be done using a ethernet cable or with a
USB stick.
4. Open the apps to show data or use your system
5. To add model | E4 to your ships network disable the DHCP server and connect to the desired network.

FAQ.
Q. How do I connect my depth and speed transducers?
A. If they are not NMEA2000 but analog, we can supply a Actisense DST-2 to convert the signal to nmea0183.
Q. Can I connect a B&G 213 or VMHU?
A. Yes our windbox converts the signal to 100hz nmea2000 wind sensors
Q. Can I connect a load cell?
A. Yes our load cell box is a load cell amplifier that can interface with most 4 or 6 wire loadcells. And send the
signal to NMEA 2000.
Q. Can I connect any other sensors?
A. Yes with our lineair box you can input 2, 0-5v sensors to measure any value you like.
Q. Does your system interface with any navigation software?
A. Yes, we can speak with plotters over the NMEA2000 bus, Expedition in the expedition format over UDP and
Adrena over ump using 0183.
Q. What if I want to display some custom sentences?
A. We have 128 channels available to send any data string over UDP you would like, please contact us for the
user guide!
