Safety instructions
for connecting up and functioning
WARNING: The application must be earthed!
The mains connection, maintenance and repair jobs should only be carried
out by an authorised technician in accordance with the applicable safety
standards. Work which has been improperly carried out can endanger your
safety.
The surfaces of heating- and cooking zones become hot during operation.
Therefore: Always keep children away.
for the cooking surface
Overheated fats and oils may spontaneously ignite. You should therefore
cook food involving the use of fats and oils, e.g. chipped potatoes, only un-
der supervision. Never extinguish fats or oils with water! Place a lid on the
pan, switch off the cooking zone and take the pan off the hot cooking zone.
If cracks, fractures, or any other defects appear in your glass-ceramic cook-
ing area, do not use your appliance. Unplug or otherwise disconnect your
appliance from the mains supply and call our service centre.
Be careful when working with additional appliances! The connection leads
must not come into contact with the hot cooking zones.
The glass ceramic hob should not be used as a storage area.
Do not place combustible or inflammable objects upon the cooking top
which might be dangerous in case of unintentional switching on.
Do not place any inflammable or combustible items on the hob since there
is a risk of burns or damage if the hob is switched on unintentionally.
Never use the cooking zones without cookware.
Never use the appliance to heat rooms!
Never put aluminium foil or plastic on top of the cooking zones. Substances
that melt, for example plastic, foils and especially sugar and food with a
high sugar content are to be kept away from the hot cooking zone. In order
to avoid damaging, sugar, while still hot, should immediately be scraped off
the cooking area with a scraper.
Avoid repeated burning of stains and boiling over.
Chalk deposits may damage the cooking area.
Please read through the cleaning and care instructions.
Before first use
Remove excess materials and packaging.
Before preparing food for the first time, clean the glass ceramic cooking
area with a damp cloth and a little detergent.
The cooking area is insensitive to temperatures shocks (cold and hot) and
also extremely robust.
Avoid dropping sharp objects onto the cooking area.
Pointed objects falling onto your cooking area might break it.
When switching on the cooking zones you might hear a buzzing noise com-
ing from the heating. This is due to technical reasons and does not influence
quality or functioning of your cooking area.
Use of the cooking zones
Read the safety instructions!
Switching the cooking zones on and off
Each cooking zone has its own control. The symbols next to the controls show
to which cooking zone the respective control buttons belong. Always turn the
control buttons anti-clockwise.
Nine cooking settings are marked on the cooking zone controls, but you can
also choose finer intermediate settings. As far as possible, start cooking at the
highest setting and continue at a smaller setting.
Dual circuit cooking zone
As a standard rule, the smaller cooking zone diameter is heated.
Change the control to the outer cooking zone circuit for frying pans or larger
saucepans.
Turn the cooking zone
control to the left as far
as it will go.
Then set it to the re-
quired cooking setting.
Control to "0":
Returns to the smaller di-
ameter.
Heating indicators (1)
The indicators are on for as long as the cooking zones are still very hot –,
even after the cooking zones have been switched off.
Caution! The indicator can be defect (defect light bulb). You will not not be
warned when the cooking zones are hot. Have the light bulb replaced imme-
diately.

Some instructions on cookware
Only use pans with even and flat bottoms.
Uneven pan bottoms prolong the boost times and increase the power require-
ment. Rough pan bottoms scratch the glass-ceramic area when shifted about.
When using fireproof glass or porcelain cookware, please follow the manufac-
turers instructions.
Choose a pan with a diameter at least as large as the cooking zone.
You will thereby save energy and cooking time. You will also avoid overheating
of the cooking area.
Wherever possible, place a lid on the pan.
You will save a lot of energy by cooking in a closed pan. Liquids and foods
will only boil over if the temperature is too high. For the cooking zones, you
can precisely set the temperature required. With a little practice, you will read-
ily make the correct choice of cooking settings so that nothing boils over even
when a lid is in place.
Cleaning and care
[
Never clean the glass ceramic hob with a steam cleaner or similar ap-
pliance!
Never use sharp or abrasive agents!
It is sufficient to clean with a damp
cloth and a little washing-up liquid
after usage. Wipe dry.
Incrustation due to boilied over foods
are best presoftened with a wet
cloth. Then remove them with a glass
scraper. Sugar and melted plastic
should be removed while the cooking
area is still hot.
Clean the glass-ceramic cooking area after every use.
Heavy soiling can be cleaned with a cleanser and enough water. Wipe dry
with a cloth.
Care for your glass-ceramic cooking area once a week. Regular care builds
up a protective layer and also eases day to day cleaning. Please follow the
instructions of the cleaner or cleanser manufacturer concerned.
For EGS models only:
Please clean your grill regularly, but do not use any cleaning agents which
contain silicone. These will leave a film on the grill surface which could be
absorbed by the food upon next use. For this reason it is essential that you
closely observe the cleaning product manufacturer’s instructions.
Even heavy soiling can be cleaned with a cleanser and enough water. Af-
terwards always wipe dry with a cloth. Your grill will shine if you then treat
it with a little lemon juice or vinegar.
What to do if there is a fault
Unplug the appliance befor repair!
Check carefully to make sure that the fault is not due to misoperation. You
can rectify many faults yourself.
Important note:
Repairs should only be carried out by an authorised technician!
Even during the guarantee period repairs will not be free of charge if due to
incorrect operation or to non-adherence to our instructions given under "What
to do if there is a fault".
You should always give the data on the rating plate to your service centre in
case you have enquiries or want to order spare parts. The rating plate is lo-
cated underneath the hob.

Installation instructions
Please note
KÜPPERSBUSCH built-in hob units may be combined only with KÜPPERS-
BUSCH built-in ovens with tangencial cooling fan.
Exception: model series EGS. The use of any other make of hob unit shall ex-
empt Küppersbusch from all liability. Failure to observe this requirement
will invalidate all granted certificates and labels of approval!
Hints on installation
It is absolutely essential that the worktop is aligned horizontally and that a
clean cut is made into it!
The front, rear and lateral clearances around the hob unit must be main-
tained in accordance with the dimensional drawing.
A corner moulding of solid wood may be fitted to the worktop at the back
of the hob unit provided that the minimum clearances are maintained.
For practical reasons the lateral clearance between the hob unit and an ad-
jacent tall cupboard unit must measure at least 300 mm.
Make sure that there is sufficient clearance underneath the cut-out. Any fur-
niture battens must be cut away to leave an area which is at least the same
size as the cut-out itself.
Make a point of ensuring that the plastic laminate or wood veneer on your
furniture surround has been applied by means of a heat-resistant adhesive
(100 °C).
Any cooker hoods or wall cupboards must have a vertical clearance of at
least 650 mm from the hob unit.
It will be expedient to seal built-in sinks and other built-in appliances in the
worktop in the same way (protection against ingress of water).
Prior to installation and after removal for repair, examine the gasket for pos-
sible damage. The gasket must provide perfect contact on all four sides. Re-
place it if necessary.
In the case of ceramic-tiled worktops it is necessary to provide an additional
seal with the aid of a permanently elastic sealing compound. Such sealing
compound can be purchased as Küppersbusch spare part No. 53 55 69.
Clean the surfaces to be sealed in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions on the cartridge. Apply the compound in a continuous strip,
pressing it firmly against the gap to be sealed.
Cut away any surplus sealing compound with a sharp knife and clean the
sealed joint with water.
Installation of glass-ceramic hob units
Using clips makes it easier and quicker for you to install these units. You can
carry out the complete installation work from above.
Always lift the cooking surface by holding it at the sides. Do not lift it by
the front bar.
Be extremely careful when installing! Do not place or drop any sharp or
pointed tools (screwdrivers etc.) on the glass surface!
The glass-ceramic cooking area must have a level and flush bearing. Any
distortion may lead to fracture of the glass panel.
First of all make a clean cut into the worktop.
Make sure that the gasket is properly seated. If the worktop surface is un-
even (tiles etc.), remove the gasket strip and seal with a heat resistant seal-
ing compound.
Then insert the clips into the worktop cut-out as shown in the figures on
the previous page, observing the clearances indicated. It is not necessary
to adjust the height due to the horizontal stop motion device.
Now position the cooking surface on the left as shown in figure, align it (2)
and clip it in (3).
If the worktop cut-out should be a little too
large, it is possible to increase the prelim-
inary spring tension of the clips by screw-
ing them down.
You only require the enclosed tension el-
ements S if you are fitting the hob unit into
worktops made of granite, marble or sim-
ilar materials.
Elektrischer Anschluß
The built-in cooking area must be connected to the mains supply by
a qualified electrician who is authorized to carry out such work.
Both legal wiring regulations and the requirements of your local electricity
supply board must be fully complied with.
Safeguard the appliance by means of line-protecting switches, fuses or con-
tactors with at least 3 mm contact opening width.
When connecting and repairing the appliance disconnect it from the elec-
tricity supply with one of these devices.
It must not be possible to touch nonconducting parts when the appliance is
installed.
The earthed conductor lead must be sufficiently long so that, in the event
of failure of the strain relief, it is not subjected to strain until after the live
wires of the connection cable.
Any superfluous cable must be removed from the installation area beneath
the appliance.
