Chapter 1 Overview
The Liebert CRV+ series precision air conditioner is a professional device, applicable to occasions inaccessible to
general public.
This chapter introduces the Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner on its model description, refrigerant requirement,
product introduction, appearance, main components of indoor unit and requirements on operation and storage
environment.
1.1 Model Description
The model description of the Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner is shown in Figure 1-1.

Emerson Network Power Co., Ltd. For the system abnormity or damage caused by using low quality refrigerant, the
warranty will be invalid.

1.3 Product Introduction
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner is a medium and small size precise environment control system, applicable to
environment control in medium and small size equipment room, modularized machine room and machine room of
high heat density with need of saving energy. It can maintain a favorable running environment for precise devices
such as sensitive devices, industry process devices, communication devices and computers.
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner features high reliability, high sensible heat ratio and large airflow. An
electrode humidifier is configured and R410A environment-friendly refrigerant is used, to meet the requirements on
environment friendly refrigerant internationally.
The unit is an air-cooled single cooling system, that is, compressor refrigeration system. The system is configured
with DC speed regulation back-inclined centrifugal fan (EC fan for short).
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner consists of an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The Liebert CRV+ condenser
is standard configuration, and it can reduce noise pollution to environment to greatest extent on the base of satisfying
system cooling requirement, and improve reliability of operation.
1.4 Product Appearance
The appearance of the Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner is shown in Figure 1-2.

1.5 Main Components Of Indoor Unit
The indoor unit of the Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner consists of DC brushless compressor, evaporator,
electronic expansion valve, electrode humidifier, EC fan, electric heater, sight glass, filter dryer, micro-processing
controller and so on.
Compressor
Adopt a DC brushless scroll compressor. It features low vibration, low noise and high reliability.
Evaporator
Adopt a fin-tube heat exchanger with high efficiency. The distributor is designed and verified according to individual
model to ensure that the refrigerant is distributed evenly in each loop, improving the efficiency of the heat exchanger
to a great extent.
Electronic expansion valve
Adopt an electronic expansion valve. It collects temperature and pressure signals at the same time to accurately
regulate the refrigerant flow.
Fan
Adopt an EC fan. It features high efficiency, energy saving, space saving and low noise.
Electric heater
Adopt a PTC heater. It features quick heating, even quantity of heat, operation safety and reliability.
Sight glass
The sight glass is the window of the system cycle, for observing the refrigerant state, mainly the moisture content of
the system. When the moisture content exceeds the standard, the color will be changed.
Filter drier
The filter drier can effectively eliminate the moisture in the system and filtrate the impurities generated during
long-term system operation so as to ensure the normal system operation.
Micro-processing controller
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner uses EMERSON micro-processing controller which adopts advanced PID
regulating technology. The micro-processing controller adopts the LCD screen with blue backlight (small board: white
backlight; large board: blue backlight) and 240 × 128 dots (small board: 128 × 44; large board: 240 × 128). The user
interface operation is simple. The multi-level password protection can effectively prevent illegal operation. It also
provides power failure auto-restoration function and high/low voltage protection function. The operation time of
components is available through the menus. The expert-level fault diagnosis system can automatically display the
current fault information, facilitating the maintenance. It can store up to 200 historical event records. An RS485 port is
configured, and Modbus protocol is used. The panel of the micro-processing controller is shown in Figure 1-3.

Remote Monitoring Software
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner adopts Modbus protocol. Through the configured RS485 port or TCP/IP port,
the Liebert CRV+ system can communicate with the host computer and receive the control of the host software.
1.6 Environmental Requirements

Chapter 2 Mechanical Installation
This chapter introduces the mechanical installation of the Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner, including transportation,
movement, unpacking, inspection, installation notes, system installation arrangement, installing indoor unit, installing
unit pipes, removing transportation fastener and vibration-absorber, and installation inspection.
2.1 Movement, Unpacking And Inspection
2.1.1 Transportation And Movement
Railroad transportation and shipping are the recommended means of transportation. If truck transportation is
unavoidable, choose roads that are less bumpy to protect the equipment.
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner is heavy (see Table 2-1 for the weight). It is recommended to use mechanical
handbarrow such as an electric forklift to unload and move the equipment to the place closest to the installation site.
If a forklift is used, insert the tines of the forklift below the pallet, as shown in Figure 2-1. Align the tines with the
center of gravity to prevent the equipment from falling over.

When moving the indoor unit, keep the obliquity within the range from 75° to 105°, as shown in Figure 2-2.

2.1.2 Unpacking
The cabinet uses packing of honeycomb cardboard and winding stretch film. Move the product to the place closest to
the final installation site before unpacking the unit.
Follow the procedures below to unpack the unit:
1. First remove the top cover and the winding stretch film, and then remove the honeycomb cardboard, as shown in
Figure 2-3.

2. Removing the pallet.
The unit is fixed onto the packing pallet with M8 × 20 and M8 × 80 screws, as shown in Figure 2-4. You can use
17mm open-end spanner, ratchet spanner or sleeve to remove the screws.

2.1.3 Inspection
After unpacking the product, check against the packing list that the fittings are complete and that the components are
intact. If any parts are found missing or damaged, please report to the carrier immediately. If any covert defects are
found, please report to the carrier and the local office of the distributor.
2.2 Installation Notes
To realize the designed performance and maximize the product life, correct installation is vital. This section should be
applied in conjunction with the prevailing industry standards of mechanical and electrical installation.
1. The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner is designed for split floor installation. The indoor unit must be installed on
the floor of the equipment room or computer room, and the outdoor unit can be installed outdoors or on the floor of
other rooms.
2. Before the installation, make sure that the installation environment meets the requirements (see 1.6
Environmental Requirements) and confirm whether the building needs to be transformed to accommodate the
construction work of piping, wiring and ventilation ducts.
3. Follow the design drawings strictly when installing the equipment, and reserve space for daily maintenance and
service. The manufacturer’s engineering dimension drawings can be served as a reference.

2.3.2 System Installation Illustration

1. When the condenser is installed higher than the compressor (see Figure 2-6), a back bend should be fitted on the discharge pipe
and liquid pipe of the condenser, to avoid refluence of liquid refrigerant upon stopping.
2. When installing the back bend, ensure that the top end of the back bend is installed higher than the highest copper pipe of the
condenser.

To prevent damage of power cable, the cable entry hole is fitted with bushing for protection.
2.4 Installing Indoor Unit
2.4.1 Equipment Room Requirement
The requirements on the equipment room are as follows:
1. Damp proof and heat preservation work must be well done to make sure that the environment control system in the
air conditioner room can operate normally.
2. The equipment room should have good heat insulation and sealed damp proof layer. The damp proof layer of the
ceiling and walls must use polyethylene film or damp proof coating.
3. The outdoor air that enters the equipment room should be reduced to a minimum, better below 5% of the total
indoor airflow, as it may increase the load of heating, cooling, humidifying and dehumidification of the system.
4. All the doors and windows should be closed and the openings should be as narrow as possible.
Note
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner is a professional device, and the indoor unit is prohibited to be used in an open atrocious
outdoor environment.
2.4.2 Installation Space
The Liebert CRV+ series air conditioner is a set of full-featured steam compressor refrigerating air-cooled unit. It is
recommended to be installed in a row of cabinets with high heat density and ‘hot aisle & cold aisle’ arrangement.
Maintenance space requirement
In normal condition, leave more than 600mm of maintenance space at the front and the rear of the air condition unit,
as shown in Figure 2-12.

2.4.3 Installation Procedures
The Liebert CRV+ air conditioner is used between racks, and at least one side of it is adjacent to server cabinet.
Levelling the cabinet
After all components of the cabinet have been installed, you need to level the cabinet.
The procedures for levelling the cabinet are as follows:
1. Place the cabinet on an open ground.
2. Use a moveable wrench to loosen the fixing nuts on the four feet bolts (see Figure 2-13) clockwise in sequence.
3. Rotate the hexagon bolts on the bottom of the feet clockwise or counter clockwise till the feet rises or drops to an
optimal position, and use a gradienter to ensure that the cabinet is in a level state, as shown in Figure 2-13.

4. Screw down the fixing nuts on the feet bolts counter clockwise, and the levelling is finished.
If the machine room has mounting bracket, and its width does not exceed 30mm, you need to remove the feet and fix
the cabinet onto the mounting bracket.
Removing feet and fixing cabinet
Note
To avoid personal injury and cabinet damage, two persons are required to perform the operation together.
1. Remove the feet:
1) Use a moveable wrench to loosen the fixing nuts on the four feet bolts clockwise in sequence.
2) Rotate the hexagon bolts on the bottom of the feet clockwise till the feet drops from the cabinet frames.
2. Fix the cabinet:
The cabinet provides two holes (diameter: 10mm) respectively on its top, bottom, front and rear, as shown in
Figure 2-14. Install bolts in the four bottom holes to fix the cabinet onto the floor bracket of the machine room, and
install bolts in the four top holes to connect the cabinet with the top bracket of the machine room.

Cabinet connection
The cabinet connectors are provided in accessories. You can connect the unit with adjacent cabinets through the
cabinet connectors.
Note
Before connecting the cabinet, please level the cabinet first. Refer to Levelling The Cabinet in this section for the method.
Procedures for connecting the cabinet:
1. Loosen the fixing screw of the cabinet connector on the cabinet frame, and rotate the cabinet connector 90° to
horizontal position, as shown in Figure 2-15.

2. Use the provided M5 countersunk head screws to fix the cabinet connector in the installation holes on the cabinet
frame, as shown in Figure 2-16. When connecting the racks without using the split plate, use the installation holes of
the cabinet connector to connect the racks.

2.5 Piping
2.5.1 Connecting Air-Cooled Unit Pipe
All joints of the cooling pipes must be silver-brazed. Standard industry procedures must be followed in selecting,
laying, and fixing the pipes, and vacuuming the system and charging refrigerant. Take pipeline pressure drop, oil
return to the compressor and minimization of noise and vibration into consideration during design and construction.
General
The recommended pipe sizes are ‘equivalent lengths’ (see Table 2-6 for equivalent lengths of partial components),
with the resistance caused by bends taken into account. The installer should confirm that the sizes are appropriate for
the site conditions.
1. If the one-way equivalent length exceeds 30m, or if the vertical distance between indoor unit and outdoor unit
exceeds the values in Table 2-5, consult Emerson before the installation to confirm whether a pipe extension kit is
needed.
