Safety Features
Stratasys3DprintersaredesignedtocomplywithCEandFCC
standards.Theyareequippedwiththefollowingsafetyfeatures:
Cover Interlock Switch
ThepowersuppliedtotheUVlamp,thetrayheaterandthe
motionmotorsisturnedoffwhenthecoverisopened.
Warning
Do not defeat (override) the interlock switch. Doing so could
result in serious personal injury. If the interlock switch does not
function correctly, do not use the printer, and contact your service
provider.
Safety Lock
Thecoverislockedwhiletheprinterisworking.Ifyoudo
managetoliftit,theUVlampsandthemotionmotorsturnoff.
Warning
Do not defeat (override) the safety lock. Doing so could result
in serious personal injury. If the safety lock does not function

Safety Guidelines

throughoutthisuserguide,ensureusersafetywhileoperatingand
maintainingthesystem.If the system is not operated as specified,
the user's safety may be compromised.
Printer
Installation
Installationandremovaloftheprintershouldonlybedonebyqualified
servicepersonnel.
Connecttheprinter(andtheUPSunit)totheelectricoutletusingapower
cordthatissafety-certified.
Theelectricoutletshouldbeeasilyaccessible,neartheprinter.
Neverconnectthepowerplugtoanoutletthatdoesnothaveaground
(earth)wire,andneverdisconnecttheground.Doingsomightexposethe
operatortoseriousdangerfromelectricshock.

Maintenance
Serviceoperationsshouldbeperformedonlybyqualifiedpersonnelwho
havebeeninstructedinrelevantsafetyprecautions.
Notifyco-workersandthosewhohaveaccesstotheJ750systembefore
beginningnon-routineandhazardouswork.
Report any potential dangers and safety-related accidents to your safety
officer or to other appropriate authorities.
Model and
Support
Materials
ModelandSupportmaterialsaremadeofchemicalsubstances.Although
precautionsmustbetakenwhenhandlingthesematerialsdirectly,allModel
andSupportmaterialsusedbytheJ750systemarehandledinsealed
cartridges.Normally,operatorsoftheprintershouldneverbedirectlyexposed
tohazardousmaterials.Intheunlikelyeventofaleakorspill,followthe
instructionsthatareincludedwiththematerialcartridgesused.
StoreModelandSupportmaterialsindoors,inadryareawithadequate
ventilation,between15-25degreesCelsius(59-77degreesFahrenheit).
Neverexposethemtoflames,heat,sparks,ordirectsunlight.
KeepModelandSupportmaterialsawayfromareaswherefoodanddrink
arestored,preparedandconsumed.
Uncuredprintingmaterialisconsideredahazardoussubstance,requiring
certainprecautionswhendirectlyhandlingit.Topreventskinirritation,
wearneopreneornitrile gloves.IfthereisanychancethatModeland
Supportmaterialsmightsplashintotheeyes,wearsafetygoggles.
Prolongeddirectcontactwithprintingmaterialscancauseanallergic
reaction.
WhenhandlingUV-curedmodelsthatmaynotbecompletelycuredonthe
surface,commonlatexglovesareadequate.
Topreventrespiratoryirritation,ventilateareaswhereModelandSupport
materialsareused.Iftheprinterisnotequippedwithanexhaustduct,the
roomventilationsystemshouldreplacetheairatleast20timesperhour.
CleanupModel-materialandSupport-materialspillswithdisposable
towelsorotherabsorbent,non-reusablematerial,suchassawdustor
activatedcharcoal.Rinsethespillareawithdenaturedorisopropylalcohol
(IPA),followedbysoapandwater.Disposeoftheabsorbentmaterialin
accordancewithlocalregulations.
Donotwashcontaminatedclothingathome;clothingshouldbe
professionallylaundered.
Disposeofcontaminatedshoes,beltsandotherleatheritemsin
accordancewithanyapplicableregulations.Absorbedprintingmaterial
mayre-exposetheuserwhentheseitemsareworn.

UV Lamps
UVlampsusedbytheprintertocureprintingmaterialscontainasmall
amountofmercury.Intheunlikelyeventoflampbreakage,avoidinhaling
mercuryvapor,andventilatetheroom.Ifthelampruptures(breaks)during
operation,leavetheroomandventilateitthoroughlyforabout30minutes.
Useprotectiveglovestopreventcontactwithmercuryandotherlamp
components.Carefullyremovespilledmercurywithamethodthatprevents
thegenerationofmercuryvapor,suchasasyringe,packingtapeorpaper.
Placethebrokenlamp,mercuryandcontaminatedmaterialsinanair-tight,
non-metalliccontainer.Disposeofthecontainerinaccordancewith
applicableregulations.

First Aid for Working with Printing Materials
Ingeneral,trytoavoiddirectcontactwithuncuredprintingmaterial.Ifskin
oreyescomeintocontactwithit,washtheareaimmediatelyandthoroughly
withwater,andfollowthesefirst-aidinstructions.
The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) that accompanies printing materials
contains important safety information. Keep this in an accessible place where
these materials are used and stored.
Contact with
Skin
Ifuncuredprintingmaterialcomesincontactwithskin,washtheaffected
areaimmediatelyandthoroughlywithsoapandcoolwater,thenremove
contaminatedclothing.Payparticularattentiontoflushingthehair,ears,
noseandotherpartsofthebodythatarenoteasilycleaned.
Usecoolwatertopreventskinporesfromopening,sothattheliquid
materialdoesnoteasilypenetratetheskin.
Donotusesolventstocleanskin.
Iflargeareasofskinhavebeenexposed,orifprolongedcontactresultsin
blisters,seekmedicalattention.Inanycase,ifirritationpersists,seek
medicalattention.
Avoidtheaccidentaltransferofprintingmaterialfromthehandstoother
areasofthebody,especiallytotheeyes.
Ifprotectivecreamwasused,donotreapplyituntiltheskinhasbeen
completelycleansed.
Contact with
Eyes
Ifuncuredprintingmaterialcomesincontactwiththeeyes,flush
immediatelywithlargeamountsofwaterfor15minutesandseekmedical
attention.
Avoidsunlight,fluorescentlight,andothersourcesofultravioletradiation.
Wearingcontactlenseswhenhandlingliquidprintingmaterialsisnot
recommended.Iftheliquidsplashesintotheeyeswhencontactlensesare
worn,immediatelyremovethelensesandflushtheeyeswithwater.
Cleananddisinfectthecontaminatedlenses.
Donotwearcontactlensesuntileyeirritationdisappears.
Ingestion
Ifprintingmaterialisswallowed,refertotheinstructionsincludedwiththe
cartridge.Seek medical attention immediately.
Inhalation
Vaporsfromprintingmaterialscanbeirritatingtotherespiratorysystem.If
respiratoryirritationoccurs,exposethevictimtofreshairimmediately.
Ifthevictimhasstoppedbreathing,performartificialrespirationor
cardiopulmonaryresuscitation.
Seekmedicalattentionimmediately.
Keepthevictimwarmbutnothot.
Neverfeedanythingtoanunconsciousperson.
Oxygenshouldbeadministeredbyauthorizedpersonnelonly.

Waste Disposal
Fullycuredprintedmodelscanbedisposedofasordinaryofficetrash.
However,specialcareisrequiredwhenhandlingprinterwaste(uncured
printingmaterial).
Printing
Materials
WhenremovingthewastecontainerfromtheJ750printer,wear
neopreneornitrilegloves.
Topreventliquidwastefromsplashingintotheeyes,wearsafetygoggles.
LiquidwastefromtheJ750printerisclassifiedashazardousindustrial
waste.Therefore,printing-materialwastemustbepackagedanddisposed
ofinamannerthatpreventshumancontactwithitandcontaminationof
watersources.
EmptyModel-materialandSupport-materialcartridgescontainresidueof
theircontents.Someleakageofthisresiduemayoccurthroughthebroken
cartridgeseal.Therefore,handleandstoreemptycartridgeswithcare.
Donotattempttoreuseemptycartridges,anddonotpuncturethem.
Disposeofusedcartridgesandwastecontainersinaccordancewithlocal
regulations.
Discardcontaminatedclothing,shoes,emptycontainers,etc.,in
accordancewithanyapplicableregulations.
UV Lamps
UVlampsusedbytheprintertocureprintingmaterialscontainasmall
amountofmercury,andareconsidered“UniversalWaste.”Recycleordiscard
usedlampsinaccordancewithapplicableregulations.
Brokenlamps:
Afterventilatingthearea,useprotectiveglovesandcarefullyremovespilled
mercurywithamethodthatpreventsthegenerationofmercuryvapor,such
asasyringe,packingtapeorpaper.Placethebrokenlamp,mercuryand
contaminatedmaterialsinanair-tight,non-metalliccontainer.Disposeofthe
containerinaccordancewithapplicableregulations.

•Youcanstreamlineandeconomizetheprocessofproducingmodels.
Printingmodelsmadefromdifferentmaterialsonthesamebuildtray
(“mixedtray”),inthesameprintjob,eliminatesthetime-consuming
needandexpenseofloadinganothermaterial,flushingthesystem,and
sendingaseparatejobtobeprinted.
AlternatingprintjobsthatuseanyoftheModelmaterials(ormaterial
combinations)loadedsimilarlydoesnotrequirematerial
replacement—again,savingtimeandexpense.
•Youcanprintobjectswithcombinationsofbasicmaterials(digital
materials),enablingyoutochoosefromawiderangeofpossible
mechanicalpropertiesfromflexibletorigid.
•Youcanprintparts(shells)ofthesamemodelsimultaneously—with
differentmaterials(ormaterialcombinations)
•Youcanprintobjectsthathavea“coating”madefromadifferentmaterial
thanthemainpartoftheobject.

Work Configurations
TheStratasysJ7503Dprintingsystemcanbesetupasasingle-stationsystem
orasamulti-stationsystem.Whenconnectedtoalocalcomputernetwork,
thesystemcanservemultipleusers.Insuchconfigurations,eachuser(client)
preparesfilesforproduction.Asoftwareservice,installedontheprinter
computer,processesjobsandcontrolstheprinting.

J750printersproducemodelsbyjettingthinlayersofprintingmaterialson
thebuildtray,untilthecompletemodelisformed.Twotypesofmaterialare
usedinthisprocess:
•Modelmaterial—whichmakesupthefinishedmodel
•Supportmaterialwhichfillsgapsandspacesinthemodelduring
printing,andisremovedafterprinting

Storage
MaterialsusedforprintingmodelswithJ750printersaremadeofresins,
whicharecomposedofreactivemonomersandoligomers.Althoughprinting
materialsaresuppliedinsealed,UV-proofcartridges,caremustbetaken
whenstoringandhandlingthem.Followtheseguidelinestoprotectoperators
andtheenvironment,andtoensureoptimumresults.
•Toensureproductstability,donotallowthesematerialstocomeinto
contactwithmetal.Plasticsmadefrommonomer-solublesubstances(such
aspolystyreneorpolyvinylchloride)arenotsuitableforstoringPolyJet
printingmaterials.
•Whennotinuse,keepmaterialcartridgestightlysealedtoprevent
contamination,theeffectsofexposuretoUVradiation,andaccidental
spillage.
•Storematerialcartridgesindoors,inadryareawithadequateventilation,
between15–25degreesCelsius(59-77degreesFahrenheit).Ifexposedto
heatorflames,cartridgesmightburstorignite.
•Signsofprematurepolymerizationinmaterialcartridgesincludebulging,
leaking,theemissionofheat,andunusualodor.Exposuretoheatcan
causeresintogelinthecartridges.
•Makesurethatmaterialcartridgesarestoredinaccordancewithalllocal
regulationsandotherapplicablerequirements.
Shelf Life
Materialsusedforproducingmodelshavealimitedshelflife.Theexpirydate
onthelabelisvalidwhenproperlystoredinanundamaged,unopened
cartridge.Alwaysrotateyourstock,sothatthecartridgewiththeearliestdate
isusedfirst.
Exposure to
Light
Ifprintingmaterialsarenotintheirsealedcartridges,makesuretoshield
themfromsunlightandothersourcesofUVradiation,suchasfluorescent
andmercury-vaporlights.ExposuretoUVradiationcausesanincreasein
viscosityand,eventually,solidification.
