Thank you for choosing this coffee machine. To get the very
best out of your new coffee machine it is advisable to read
these instructions before using the appliance. This is the only
way to ensure optimum results and maximum safety.
Using for the first time
Before using the machine for the first time, wash all the acces-
sories in warm soapy water and rinse. For the best tasting coffee
the internal circuits must be flushed through at least five times. To
do this follow the instructions in the paragraph “Preparing the fil-
ter coffee” using just water.
To wash the steam boiler, fill the small carafe with water up to
level “4” indicated on the “WATER LEVEL” side, then pour the
water into the boiler and close rotating firmly the safety cap. Press
the cappuccino button and after 5 minutes open the steam knob;
leave the steam knob opened until no more steam comes out: this
means that there is no more water in the boiler.
Installation
Place the coffee maker on a flat work surface at a safe distance
from taps and sinks.
After having positioned the appliance on the work bench, make
sure that there is a free space of around 20 cm between the
surfaces of the appliance and the side and rear walls and a free
space of at least 25 cm above the coffee maker.
Check that the voltage corresponds to that indicated on the
appliance rating plate. The appliance must always be connected
to a well-earthed socket rated at 10A minimum.The manufac-
turer is not liable for damage caused by inadequate earthing of
the appliance.
In the event of incompatibility between the plug on the appli-
ance and the socket, have the plug replaced by a qualified pro-
fessional. The power cable for this appliance must not be
replaced by the user, in that this operation requires the use of
special tools. In the event of damage, only contact a service cen-
tre authorised by the manufacturer so as to avoid any risks.
Never install the machine in an environment that can reach a
temperature less than or equal to 0°C (if the water in it
freezes, the coffee maker may be damaged).

Preparing the filter coffee
Raise the lid and remove the water reservoir (fig. 1).
Fill the tank with cold, clean water, up to the level indicated on
the tank corresponding to the number of cups of coffee that
are desired (fig. 2).
Replace the tank into the machine by pressing down firmly.
If desired, the tank can be left in the machine and the large carafe can
be used to fill it with water. The carafe also has water level indicators on
it (fig. 3).
Open the filter holder by pulling it towards the right using the
plastic tab (fig. 4).
Place the filter into the filter holder (fig. 5).
Put the ground coffee into the filter by using the measuring
spoon included with the machine and level off the grounds
evenly (fig. 6). As a general rule, use a level measure of coffee
(about 7 grams) for each cup required (for example, 10 meas-
ures for 10 cups). However, the quantity of coffee used can be
varied according to personal taste. Use good quality coffee for
filter coffee machines.
•Close the filter holder and place the large carafe complete with
lid onto the warming plate.
Select the filter coffee flavour as described in the paragraph
“How to choose the flavour of the filter coffee”.
•Press the “ON/OFF” switch for filter coffee (fig. 7). The
ON/OFF indicator light for filter coffee above the switch itself
indicates that the filter machine is functioning properly.
The brewed coffee will begin to drip out after a few seconds.
During filtration, it is normal for the appliance to give off steam
and for condensation to form near the lid.
•To keep the coffee hot after filtration, place the carafe on the
hot plate and leave the appliance on (coffee ON indicator light):
The coffee in the carafe is kept at the right temperature.

How to choose the flavour of the filter coffee
With the flavour selector, the flavour of the filter coffee can be
selected according to personal taste. By turning the flavour selector
knob (Fig. 8), the coffee maker can be set for coffee with a strong
(STRONG position) or light aftertaste (LIGHT position).
The flavour selector changes the strength of the aftertaste of the
coffee, while the actual taste remains the same.
How to prepare espresso coffee
1. Unscrew the boiler cap by turning it in a anti-clockwise direc-
tion.
2. Fill the small carafe according to the number of cups of espres-
so coffee that are required, using the WATER LEVEL indicators
printed on it (fig. 9) (see the chart page 10).
3. Pour the water into the steam boiler (fig. 10).
4. Replace the boiler cap by turning firmly in a clockwise direc-
tion.
5. Insert the filter for espresso coffee into the filter holder (fig.
11).
6. Fill the filter with the ground coffee, using the measures indicat-
ed in the chart page 10 and level evenly in the filter (without
packing) (fig. 12). It is important to use high quality ground cof-
fee with a medium grind in order to avoid the blocking of the
filter during the brewing.
7. Remove any excess coffee from around the edges of the filter
(fig. 13).
8. To attach the filter holder to the appliance, position it under the
hot water spout with the handle towards the left (fig 14). Push
upwards, and at the same time, turn the handle as far right as
possible. It does not matter if the handle is not centrally aligned
with the machine, as long as the filter holder is firmly attached
to the appliance.

lid will slot under the filter holder; be sure that the holes of the
filter holder correpond to the carafe lid’s aperture.
10.Position the “Vario System” selector knob according to the type
of espresso coffee desired: “LIGHT” for a weaker coffee and
“STRONG” for a stronger tasting brew (fig. 16).
11.Make sure that the steam release knob is closed. (to close turn
in a clockwise direction until tightened)
12.Push the ON/OFF switch for espresso/cappuccino.The ON
indicator light for espresso/cappuccino will turn on (fig. 17).
13.After approximately two minutes, the espresso coffee will begin
to flow out (fig. 18).
ATTENTION: to avoid spraying, do not detach the fil-
ter holder while the machine is brewing coffee.
14.When the coffee no longer flows out from the filter holder,
push the espresso/cappuccino ON/OFF switch to turn off the
steam boiler.
15.The coffee can then be served into cups.
15.To remove the used coffee in the filter, detach the filter holder,
from the machine hold the filter in place with the special lever
incorporated on the handle and let the coffee fall out by turn-
ing the filter holder upside down and knocking gently (fig. 19).
ATTENTION: Before removing the filter holder, it is impor-
tant to eliminate all of the residual steam from inside the steam
boiler. Allow the steam to blow out completely by rotating the
steam release knob in an anti-clockwise direction (fig 20).
NOTE: For safety reasons, when the steam boiler is hot, it is not
possible to remove the steam boiler cap; this is a safety feature. If
for any reason it is necessary to remove it, it is important always
to release the steam in the steam boiler by turning the steam
release knob first.
How to use the two cup attachement
The attachment must be used every time coffee is dispensed
directly into a cup. To mount it, simply insert the attachment into
the lower part of the filter holder (fig 21).

Preparing cappuccino
1. Prepare the espresso coffee as described in the paragraph
“How to prepare espresso coffee” from points 1 to 11; using
the quantity of water required to obtain 2 cappuccinos as indi-
cated in the chart page 10. Note that the quantity of water
required for making cappuccinos is greater that the
amount necessary for making espresso coffee: the extra
water is used for producing steam for frothing the milk.
2. Brew the coffee into the small espresso carafe. When the cof-
fee reaches level 2 on the “coffee level” side of the small
espresso carafe (fig. 22), turn the Vario System selector to “cap-
puccino” (fig. 16). If you allow too much coffee to come
through at this point there will not be enough steam for froth-
ing the milk.
3. Pour the coffee into 2 large cups.
4. Fill a container, ideally a small metal jug, with around 100 grams
of milk for each cappuccino being prepared.
Note: It is recommended to use semi-skimmed milk at fridge
temperature.
5. When choosing the size of the container, remember that the
volume will increase by 2 or 3 times.
6. Hold the jug of milk so that the tip of the steam nozzle is 5 mm
immersed (fig. 23). Gently turn the steam release knob anti -
clockwise (fig. 20) (turning more or less the steam knob, the
quantity of steam will change).
7. The milk will increase its volume and will be creamer.
8. When the volume of milk has doubled, immerse the steam noz-
zle deeper into the milk to continue to froth and heat the milk
(fig. 24). Froth the milk until the steam in the boiler has been
completely used up: this will prevent the milk becoming trapped
inside the steam tube.
9. Press the ON/OFF switch for espresso/cappuccino to turn off
the appliance.
10.Pour the frothed milk over the coffee, with the aid of a spoon.
Then, as a final touch, sprinkle a bit of cocoa powder over the
frothy milk to make a perfect cappuccino.
11.In order to make 4 cappuccinos, it is necessary to repeat the
previous operation, paying attention to the quantity of ground
coffee and water, indicated in the chart page 10. Before turning
the Vario System selector to “cappuccino”, brew the coffee into
the small espresso carafe until it reaches level 4 on the COFFEE
LEVEL side (fig. 25).
IMPORTANT: The steam nozzle must be thoroughly cleaned
after each use. Proceed as follows:
Unscrew the steam nozzle from the tube by turning in a clock-
wise direction (fig. 26) and wash it thoroughly with warm water.

•Make sure that the three holes in the steam nozzle, illustrated
in fig. 27, are not blocked. If necessary, clean the holes with a
pin or needle.
•Clean the steam exit tube carefully to avoid being burnt.
Screw the steam nozzle back into place.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Before performing any cleaning operations, the machine must
have cooled down and must be disconnected from the mains
power supply.
•Never immerse the machine in the water: it is an electrical
appliance.
Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents to clean the coffee
maker. A soft damp cloth will suffice.
Regularly clean the filter holder, the removable drip tray, the
boiler outlet, and the carafes. Do not wash the filter holder in
the dish washer.
•From time to time check that the holes in the filter for espres-
so coffee are not obstructed. If necessary, carefully clean the fil-
ter with hot water, scrubbing with an abrasive pad. (see fig. 28).
Make sure the holes in the metal filter are not blocked. If neces-
sary, clean with a pin (fig. 29).
•To clean the Flavor Savor, remove it from the filter holder mov-
ing it up (fig. 30).Than, after cleaning, reinsert it by pulling from
the top (fig. 30).
DESCALING
Due to the continuous heating of the water used to make the cof-
fee, over time it is normal for the tubing inside the machine to fill
with lime scale.
The espresso coffee machine must be decalcified every 2-6
months (depending on the hardness of the water and the frequen-
cy of use). Proceed as follows:
1. Fill with water the small carafe up to level 4 of the “water
Level” side.
2. Dissolve 1 spoon of citric acid (15-20 grams, available from
chemists or drug stores) .
3. Pour the descaling solution in the boiler and close the cap.
4. Attach the filter holder and ensure that the steam knob is
closed.
5. Place the small carafe under the filter holder for espresso cof-
fee.
6. Turn the Vario System in the “LIGHT” position and turn the
appliance on.
7. After few minutes, the descaling solution will flow in the carafe.

From time to time turn the steam knob and leave a little quan-
tity of solution from the milk frother.
8. When all of the solution has gone through the machine, turn off
the appliance and let it cool down.
9. To rinse the appliance, operate the machine with plain water
(without acid citric) repeating the operations from point 1 to 8
at least 2 times.
The filter coffee machine must be decalcified every 40 cycles
(according to the water hardness). Proceed as follows:
1. Fill with water the carafe up to level 4 CUPS.
2. Dissolve 2 spoons of citric acid (30 grams, available from
chemists or drug stores);
3. Pour the descaling solution in the reservoir and put it in the
appliance;
4. Remove the filter;
5. Place the carafe on the warming plate;
6. Press the ON/OFF filter coffee switch, brew the equivalent of a
cup of the solution and then turn off the appliance.
7. Allow the solution to sit in the machine for an hour;
8. Turn the machine back on and allow the rest of the solution to
filter through the circuits;
9.To rinse the appliance, operate the machine with plain water and
without using ground coffee at least 3 times (3 full tanks of
water).
Repairs for malfunctioning caused by problems of calcium
build-up are not covered by the guarantee if the descaling
process described above is not carried out regularly.
