Introduction
Thank you for purchasing our product.
EDA-004Z is an evaluation board equipped with Altera FPGA, power circuit, reset
circuit, crystal, and configuration device.
FTDI’s FT2232H is mounted for USB interface. Its channel A is assigned for user
communication interface, and FTDIs virtual COM port and direct driver are
available.
Its channel B is assigned for FPGA configuration. By using our original
programming software, it is possible to configure the FPGA and program the EPCS
Memory. This feature does not require Alteras programming software and any
download cables.
EDA-004Z can provide you very convenient and easy-to-use environment.
EDA-004Z is a without MRAM model of EDA-004.
* The explanations and screenshots given in this manual are based on QuartusII Ver. 10.1.

2.3. Power Supply
This board operates from external 5.0V input. You can use external 5.0V input from
CNA and CNB. The external power supply should be sufficient and stabilized.
FT2232H operates in self-power mode.
Please note that you can not use USB Bus power.
Internally required 3.3V, 2.5V and 1.2V are generated by on-boarded regulators.
2.4. Clock
A crystal supplies 12MHz to the FT2232H, and an oscillator supplies 50MHz to the
FPGA. You can input external clock through CNA and CNB connectors.
For details, please see circuit schematics and pin assignment.
2.5. Setting Switch (SW1)
SW1 is configuration mode setting switch. For more information of each pins,
please refer to CycloneIII user guide.

2.6. FT2232H Reset Jumper (JP3)
This jumper is used to connect a port of FPGA to the FT2232H’s reset signal input.
When the FPGA is not configured, FT2232H will be reset by the FPGA.
When using the programming software, remove this jumper.
EDA-004Z (Ver. 1.0) 6
2.7. FT2232H EEPROM Access Jumper (JP5)
This jumper is connected the EEPROM to the FT2232H. When you would like to
start up the FT2232H with its default mode and port description, remove this
jumper.
For more details, please refer to chapter 5.
2.8. Development Environment
To develop and design FPGA internal circuit, you need to prepare circuit editor,
HDL editor or logic synthesis tool. These tools are provided by Altera as QuartusII.
When you use them, you need an internet license. The version of QuartusII when
EDA-004 developed is Ver.10.1.
