INTRODUCTION
GOLDMUND METIS SUBWOOFER – Subwoofer Speaker
Goldmund was founded in 1978 and has ever since been dedicated to the accurate
reproduction of sound and image.
At Goldmund, we strive to lead in the creation, development and manufacture of the
industry’s most advanced technologies, including audio and video systems, home -
networking and music distribution.
The guiding principle at Goldmund is to produce a precise sound with the least possible
loss of quality through the different stages. Goldmund will never adopt a technology before
it is sufficiently developed to satisfy the high quality standards we set. This is why
Goldmund has often rejected mainstream technologies and developed its own.

1 PRELIMINARIES
Please read very carefully the following instructions. This high-precision speaker is
extremely revealing and can provide the best sound only if it is used properly.
The Metis subwoofer is never used as a stand-alone speaker. Its most usual configuration
is associated to one or more pairs of Metis speakers in a 2-channel or multi-channel
speaker system.
2 UNPACKING
ATTENTION
If you need to return the subwoofer to the factory or to your local representative for a
warranty repair, please note that it must be repacked in the original packing. This
packaging has been designed specifically to protect the Metis subwoofer speaker in transit.
Use of alternative packaging may result in damage, invalidating the warranty.
After unpacking, and despite its weight, the Metis subwoofer may still be moved easily for
acoustic setup. Just be careful to not damage the speaker grill which should be attached
only when the speaker is set in its final position.

3 SUBWOOFER LOCATION & COOLING
For optimal sonic result, it is essential that vibrations arising within the Metis subwoofer are
evacuated to ground effectively. Solid coupling with a very rigid floor is an essential
component in this process. If your speaker support is standing on a suspended floor, locate
at least two of the floor contacts to be above a supporting beam or close to a supporting
wall.
4 SPEAKERS PHYSICAL ALIGNMENT
To arrive to the listener simultaneously, the waves front created by each speaker section in
a system should be aligned to be at an equal distance from the listener position. This is
more critical in stereo use than in multi-channel where the levels and delay of each speaker
are adjusted separately. The optimal departure position is when the front panel of each
speaker is aligned to be at the same distance from the listening optimal point

5 CONNECTIONS
Usable in any type of configuration, the Metis subwoofer has a built-in amplifier with both
analog and digital inputs and a built-in input crossover.
The amp connecting panel provides two additional switches to select the analog or digital
inputs and which channel of the SPDIF signal is used.
The only connections needed are the power cord and the interconnect linking the Metis
subwoofer to the output of the preamplifier, or in digital, the digital link cable for SPDIF
input.
The Metis subwoofer may receive two analog cables if one only one Subwoofer is used so
the right and left channels may be mixed automatically inside the crossover.
ATTENTION: If you use 2 Subwoofers in analog, only one cable can be connected to any
of the two available RCA inputs. In such a case, always leave the unused input on each
Metis subwoofer with a short-circuiting plug mounted.
ATTENTION: In most configurations, the ground wire from AC plug must absolutely be
lifted on all amplifiers and on the Metis subwoofer connection to the AC line. Otherwise a
bad ground loop may make amplifiers oscillate and be destroyed.
The Metis subwoofer is automatically powered ON when it receives modulation. When the
analog input is selected, the amplifier is permanently powered ON.
For a Home-Theatre connection, several options are available.

5 CONNECTIONS (Ctd.)
The connection is different if the speakers are used in a multi-channel system or in a 2
channels system:
Connection in a Multi-Channel system
If used in a multi-channel system:
• One Metis subwoofer may be connected to the Subwoofer channel, either in analog or
digital.
• 2 x Metis subwoofer may also be connected in parallel to the sub-woofer channel in
analog.
Connection in a 2-channel Stereo system
When used in a stereo system, a Metis subwoofer may be used to complement in low
frequencies a pair of Metis speakers. You may use one or two subwoofers:
• If you use 2 subwoofers connect the right channel to the right subwoofer and the left
channel to the left subwoofer. Try to align the distance of the subwoofers to be identical to
the distance of the main speakers from the listening point. If you use analog connections,
always leave a short-circuiting plug on the unused analog input.
• If you use only one subwoofer in analog, connect one analog input of the subwoofer to the
right channel and the other to the left channel of the preamplifier.

6 RUNNING-IN FOR THE SUBWOOFER
The Metis subwoofer, like any other top quality speaker needs several days playing music
before offering the top sonic quality it is built to provide.
The few first hours can be very frustrating for a demanding listener.
Do not hesitate to let it play quite loud some time before attempting any real system tuning
or position adjustment.
7 CLEANING THE METIS SUBWOOFER
To clean the metal case of the subwoofer, you can use a clean, soft, damp cloth. Dampen
with water or a mild detergent solution. Avoid abrasive or harsh cleansers (e.g. products
containing sodium carbonate).
