WelcometotheKorgAudioGateHighResolutionMusicPlayer.
AudioGateisanadvancedmusicplayerand audiorecorder,aswellasaflexiblefileconversionapplication.Bestof
all,AudioGate is fully compatiblewith 1bitDSD audio.When Installed on your computer, AudioGatecan play,
manage,andconverttheformatofyo
urdi
gitalaudiofilessothatyoucanenjoyhearingthemreproducedwiththe
highest levels of clarity—including direct playback of 1bit digital audio files. Combined with certified audio
devices—suchastheKorgDSDACSeries—AudioGateallowsthedirectrecordingof1bitaudiodata.

Switching Between Views
Nearlyallof theAudioGatefeaturesandfunctionsareaccesseddirectlyfromtheViews.ThePlayerViewprovides
access to the features related to playing an audio file or Playlist. Controls and parameters related to editing or
recordinganaudiofileareavailableintheEdit/RecordingView.Toswitchbetweenviews,simplyclickontheEdi
t
bu
ttonatthetopofthescreen.TheviewcanalsobechangedbyclickingtheMenubuttonandselecting[View]—
[SwitchView].ThesizeoftheViewcanbefreelychangedlikeacommonwindowframe.

The Songlist
TheSonglistsectionlocatedinthelowerhalfofthescreenwilldisplayeitherinformationabouttheSongs(audio
files)registeredintheAudioGateLibrary(seepage7),ortheSongsinthecurrentlyselectedPlaylist(seepage10).
ClicktheSidebarDisplaybuttontoopentheLibrary/Playlistselectionscreen.
Master Volume/Input Level
TheMasterVolume/InputLevelsliderscanbeadjustedbysimplydraggingthemupanddown.
Playback/Master Volume:
In addition to the playback Gain settings saved individually (see page 29) with each song, AudioGate offers an
adjustableMasterVolumecontrolforplayback.
Recording/Input Level:
WhentheKorgDSDAC10Risconnected,duringrecording(evenwhenpaused)andinp
u
tmonitoringthiscontrol
willdeterminetheinputleveloftheDSDAC10R.
Input Monitor Settings
UsetheInputMonitorsettingstosetyourinputlevelsandto monitortheaudioinputasyourecord.Clickthe
InputMonitorSettingsbuttonwhenstoppedtomonitortheinputdevicesound.Clickthebuttonagaintocancel
settingtheinputmonitor.
Peak/Level Meter and Clip Indicator
Player View:
Duringsongplaybackandduringexport,theAudioGateLevelMetershowsthepeakvaluesoftheoutputdata—
followinganysamplerateconversion.
Edit/Recording View:
When configuring the input monitor settings and when recording (including pause), the Level Meter shows the
leveloftheincomingaudiosignal.WhenusinganNuIorDSDAC10
Randthephono
equalizerforrecordingis
selectedintherecordingsettings,thelevelofthesignalaftergoingthroughthephonoequalizerwillbeshown.
Whentheincomingaudiosignallevelistoohigh,clippingmayoccurandcouldadverselyaffectyoursound.Inthis
casetheClipindi
catorwi
lllight,andyou shouldreadjust theinputlevel,oradjusttheoutputleveloftheaudio
source.TheclipindicatorisonlydisplayedintheEdit/RecordingView.

Using the Peak/Clip Hold Function
TheAudioGatelevelmeterisequippedwithapeakholdfunctionandaclipindicatorholdfunction.Thisfeat ure
allowsyoutoeasilyseethehighestinputlevelwithoutconstantlyobserving the meters. Youcansetholddurati on
ofpeakandclip—thelengthoftimedisplayedbeforereset—separately.
Hereʹshow:
1. Rightclick(M
ac:Control+
click)thelevelmeter.
2. Choose[PeakHoldDurationofLevelmeter]or[HoldDurationofClipIndicator]andselectthedesiredtime
fromtheoptionsshown.
ThisfunctioncanalsobeaccessedbyclickingtheMenubuttonandselecting[View]‐[PeakHoldDurationofLevel
meter]or[HoldDurationofClipIndicator].

Registering Files and Projects
InorderforAudioGateto workwiththeaudiofiles andMRprojects(createdusingaKORG MR Seriesrecorder)
savedonyourcomputer,theymustfirstberegisteredwiththeAudioGateLibrary.
EachregistereditemisreferredtoasaSong.
RegisteringaSongdoesnotcreateacopyofthe fi
leinAu
dioGate.Instead,fileinformationneededtoworkas
the Song in AudioGate is registered. Before you proceed, we recommend tha t projects recorded on your MR
Seriesunitbecopiedtothe harddriveofyourcomputer.
WhenmanySongsareregisteredatatime,itwilltaketi me for themtoappearintheSonglist.Inaddition,the
Songwa

formdisplayrequirestimetobeanalyzedduringregistration,sotheSongwaveformmayalsotakea
whiletoappear.
Song Registration
Registering an MR project
WhenregisteringdatathatwascreatedonaKorgMRSeriesdigitalrecorder,itispossibletoregisterjusttheaudio
file.However,itisbestpracticetoregister the entireMRproject.Thisway,AudioGatecanalsoaccess any Marks
thatwereaddedduringrecording,anddividedaudiofileswillbeau
tomaticallyjoinedsotha
ttheycanbehandled
asasingleSong.
•DragtheMRproject(theentireMRprojectfolder)thatyouwanttoregisterintothesonglist.
Alternatively,youcanclicktheMenubuttonand select[File]‐[AddAudioFiles...]andthenchoosetheMRProj
ectbyselectingthe.pr

ilefromwithinthefolder.
WhentheLibrarySonglistisdisplayed,theMRprojectisregisteredtotheLibraryassongs.
WhenaPlaylistisdisplayed,theMRprojectisregisteredtotheselectedPlaylistaswellastothe Library.
SimplyregisteringanMRprojectintheAudioGatelibrarydoesnotcreateaba

kupofthefile.Werecommend

AudiofilescanberegisteredasSongsforusewithAudioGate.AnyfileinoneofthemanyformatswhichAudio
GatesupportscanbeimportedandregisteredasaSong(seepage56).
Dragtheaudiofilethatyouwanttoregisterintothesonglist.
Alternativ ely,youcansimplyclicktheMenubuttonandselect[File]‐[AddAudioFiles...].
WhentheLibrarySonglistisdisplayed,theaudiofileisregisteredtotheLibraryassongs.

Registering an iTunes Song
YouriTunessongscanalsoberegisteredintotheAudioGateLibrary.
1. Clickthemenubuttontoselect[File]‐[AddiTunessongs].
2. TheselectediTunessong(s)isnowregisteredintotheLibrary.
YouriTunessongswillonlyberegisteredintotheAudioGateLibrarywhentheyareselectedusingtheproce

WhenrecordingusingAudioGate,assoonasrecordinghasstopped,thenewrecordingwillbeautomaticallyregis

Selecting a Registered Song
IntheSonglistarea,simplyclickontheSong.
TheselectedSongwillbedisplayedinbold.
Toselectmultiplesongs,hold downtheCtrlkey(Mac:Commandkey)andwhileclickingindividuallyoneach
Songyouwishtoselect.
Removing a Song
Movethemousepointerontothetargetedsong,andclicktheContextMenuiconthatappearsontherightsideof
theTitletoselectthe[RemoveSongs]option.
Alternatively,youcanselect[File]‐[RemoveSongs]byclickingtheMenubutton.
Youcanalso accessthe[RemoveSongs] optionbyrightclickingonthesel

Removingsongsdeletesthesongsfromtheplaylist.Inaddition,removingthesongsfromtheplaylistdoesnot
deletethesongsfromthelibrary.
Sorting the Songlist.
SongsintheSonglistcanbequicklysortedbyTitle,Time,Artist,Album,Genre orFormat.Simplyclickonthesec
tionheadingsatthetopofthelist.TheSongswillbesortedinAlphabeticalorNu mericalascendingorder.Clicking
ontheheadingasecondtimewillreversethesortorder.

Using Playlists
BycreatingaPlaylist,you cangrouptogetheryourfavoriteSongsregisteredtotheAudioGateLibrarybytheme,
genre,artist,etc.Onceyou’vecreatedaPlaylist,youcanadd,remove,sortandselectindividualsongs,justasinthe
Library.
WhenyouregisteraSongintothePlaylistthathasnotyetbeenr
egisteredint
otheLi brary,theSongwillbeauto
maticallyregisteredintotheLibraryaswellasthePlaylist.
WhenSonginformationisupdatedforaSongthatʹsinaPlaylist,theSonginformationwillbeupdatedinthe
Library,soanyotherplaylistsinwhichthesongisregisteredar

Creating a new Empty Playlist
1. ClicktheSidebarDisplaybuttonattheupperleftcorneroftheSonglist.
2. ThePlaylistbarwillappear.Clickthe+buttonintherightcorner.
AnewPlaylistnamed“Playlist”willappear.
3. TochangethePlaylistname,clickonthenamesection.
Ifyoudonotchangethename,newPlaylistswi
llbename
d[Playlistn],withnbeinganumberthatautomatically
increasesby1witheachPlaylistcreated.
4. ClickLibraryabovethePlaylistbartodisplaytheSongsregisteredintheLibrary.
5. SelectSongsintheLibrarytoregisterthemintothePlaylistdisplayedinthesidebar.

oftheTitletoselectthe[NewPlaylistfromSelection]function.
Youcanalsoselectandregisterthe[NewPlaylistfromSelection]byrightclicking(Windows)orcontrolclicking
(Mac).
Sorting the Playlist
SongsinaPlaylistcanbesortedusingthesamemethodsusedtosorttheSongsintheLibrarySonglist(seepage9).
Inaddition,selectingasongenablesthedraggingandsortingofSongstoachievethedesiredorder.
Removing, Exporting, and Writing a Playlist to Disc
Rightclick(controlclickfortheMac)onthenameofthePlaylistyouwishtoremove,andselectRemoveSelected
Playlist.ExportandBurnDisccanbechosenaswell.Formoreinformationontheotherchoicesseepage38(Export)
and/orpage46(BurnDisc).
RemovingthePlaylistdeletestheregisteredin

ionoftheSongsinthe selectedPlaylistonly. Thesesame

1. WhileaSongisplayingorstopped,clicktheTimeInformationindicator.
2. Thecounterwillbecomeaneditablefield.Fromthekeyboard,enterthenewcounterposition(e.g.,2:30).
Youmayomitthecolon(:)andsimplyenter“230”(interpretedas“2:30”)or
“1204”(interpretedas“12:04”).
