The American Dynamics (AD) CPU Activity Log
Client application provides activity logging/reporting
and configuration file storage for one or more AD
MegaPower
®
CPU-based matrix switcher/controller

The log files created by this application are also
inserted into this folder. To meet the hard-disk
drive space installation requirements, you must
already have sufficient space on the hard drive
where the program will be installed.

application to the specified folder, the individual file

Installing the Application
To install the Activity Log Client application:
1. Download or copy the compressed file,
Activitylog0_1_007.zip, into a temporary folder
on your hard disk drive.
2. Double-click on the Activitylog0_1_007.zip file
to view the contents of the compressed archive
(
Figure 3).

3. Double-click on the file, MP-CPU Ultra
Installer.msi, to begin the installation
procedure.
4. Click Next> to continue the Setup Wizard

Activity Logging Connection
Connection for activity logging is accomplished
using the Ethernet connection of the MegaPower
CPU (MP CPU) through the TCP/IP network
protocol.
The following explanation describes the operation
of the MP CPU with static and dynamic IP
addresses:
Static IP address network:
The IP address is set via the front panel LCD of the
MP CPU. This allows the installer to set the IP
address so the EASY configuration software can
communicate with the MP CPU in the first place.
Dynamic IP address network:
The MP CPU IP address is set to DHCP Enabled
via the keyboard interface and the front panel LCD
menu system. In a network with a DHCP server,
the IP address is automatically assigned, and the
MP CPU can have a different address each time it
establishes a network connection. However, the
network device name is assigned to each of the
MP CPUs by the user through the EASY
configuration software or the front panel LCD menu
system.
Running the Application
To run the Activity Log Client application:
1. On the desktop, double-click on the MP CPU
Activity Log Client shortcut (
Figure 9) to
launch the application.

2. Right-click on MegaPower CPU Systems and
select Add... (

5. If data does not begin to automatically display
on the right pane, right-click on a previously
entered IP address and select the
Properties… option (
Figure 14).

Note: The EASY configuration software cannot
be used to disable activity logging. All
configuration parameters must be set using the
Logging Client only.
The gray “broken” wire pair should change to a
green “connected” wire pair if the MP CPU is a
selected unit (as indicated by an ‘up arrow’ on
its LCD front panel), and data should begin to
appear in the right window pane (

7. To clear the data display window, click in that
window pane to activate the Clear Screen and
Pause/Continue buttons (
Figure 17).

8. If the Configuration Change Logging Enable
checkbox was previously checked in the
MegaPower CPU System Properties dialog
box, configuration change comparisons can be
made by clicking on the Tools drop-down
menu and selecting the Show Configuration
Changes option. The following screen

Understanding Log Files
Event Logging Client refers to a background
application that gathers log records from one or
more MP CPUs via the Ethernet network
connection with TCP/IP network protocol.
Clear Screen Button
Pause/Continue Button
A log file stores event records in ASCII text format
and has a default size of the number of logs
created in 1 month.
Log files have the following filename format:
ADUltraCPUxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx_month_yyyy.log
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx represents the IP address or
network device name of the MP CPU sending the
event record, and
month_yyyy represents the English month (spelled
out) with four digits for the year; for example,
ADUltraCPU_192.168.0.2_March_2007.log.
Using a log information rate of 100Bps as an
example, approximately 124 days of logged events
can be stored in 1GB of disk space.
Note: There is no maximum disk space used by
the logging client. Therefore, it is important to know
that the logging client will deplete disk resources
unless old log files are deleted or taken off the
computer.

Uninstalling the Application
Uninstalling the activity log client application does
not remove the MP-CPU Ultra Activity Logging
Client folder or its subfolder, configfiles, created
during installation of this product. These folders
also retain all of the log files and configuration
images stored during use of the Client software.

If desired, after removing the AD CPU Activity Log
Client using Add or Remove Programs in the
Control Panel, these folders can be deleted
manually. The path is C:\Program Files\Tyco
Safety Products\MP CPU Ultra Activity Logging
Client.
To uninstall the Activity Log Client application:
1. Quit the Activity Log Client application by doing
one of the following:
a. Click on the close window X button
b. Click on the File > Exit drop-down menu
c. Right-click on the title bar and select Close
d. Right-click on the application tile in the
taskbar and select Close.

2. Click on Start > Control Panel > Add or
Remove Programs. The Add or Remove
Programs screen appears (
Figure 22), and a list
of currently installed programs is displayed.

3. Scroll down the list until you locate the program
file name, MP CPU Ultra Activity Logging Client,
and then click on the file name to select it. The
following screen appears (

in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DFAR
255.227-7013 et. seq. or 252.211-7015, or subparagraphs (a)
through (d) of the Commercial Computer Software Restricted
Rights at FAR 52.227-19, as applicable, or similar clauses in the

This Software License Agreement is governed by the laws of the

7. LIMITED WARRANTY.
a. "AS IS" WARRANTY. TYCO PROVIDES THE
