CAUTION
Fastenaarenutwithatorquewrenchasinstructedinthismanual.Iffastenedtoo
tight,thearenutmaybebrokenafteralongperiodoftimeandcausealeakageof
refrigerant.
Duringinstallation,makesurethattherefrigerantpipeisattachedrmlybeforeyourun
thecompressor.Donotoperatethecompressorundertheconditionofrefrigerantpiping
notattachedproperlywith2-wayor3-wayvalveopen.Thismaycauseabnormalpres-
sureintherefrigerationcyclethatleadstobreakageandeveninjury.
5.4. Air purge
Always use a vacuum pump to purge the air.
Refrigerant for purging the air is not charged in the outdoor unit at the factory.
Closethehighpressuresidevalveofthegaugemanifoldfullyanddonotoperateitduring
thefollowingwork.
CAUTION
Refrigerantmustnotbedischargedintoatmosphere.
Afterconnectingthepiping,checkthejointsforgasleakagewithgasleakdetector.
Gasleakchecksareperformedusingeithervacuumornitrogengas,soselecttheproper
one depending on the situation.
Checkinggasleakswithvacuum:
(1)Checkifthepipingconnectionsaresecure.
(2)Removethecapof3-wayvalve,andconnectthegaugemanifoldchargehosestothe
chargingportofthe3-wayvalve.
(3)Openthevalveofthegaugemanifoldfully.
(4)Operatethevacuumpumpandstartpumpdown.
(5)Check that the compound pressure gauge reads -0.1 MPa (-76 cmHg), operate the
vacuumpumpforatleast60minutes.
(6)At the end of pump down,close the valve of the gauge manifold fully and stop the
vacuumpump.
(Itchecksthatleaveasitisforabout10minutes,andaneedledoesnotreturn.)
(7)Disconnectthechargehosefromthe3-wayvalvechargingport.
(8)Remove the blank caps, and fully open the spindles of the 2-way and 3-way valves
withahexagonwrench.
[torque:6to7N·m(60to70kgf·cm)].
(9)Tightentheblankcaps andcharging portcap ofthe 2-wayvalveand3-wayvalveto
thespeciedtorque.
Checkinggasleakswithnitrogengas:
(1) Checkifthepipingconnectionsaresecure.
(2) Remove the cap of 3-way valve, and connect the gauge manifold charge hoses to
thechargingportofthe3-wayvalve.
(3) Pressurizewithnitrogengasusingthe3-wayvalvechargingport.
(4) Donotpressurizeuptothespeciedpressureallatoncebutdosogradually.

Increase the pressure up to0.5MPa (5 kgf/cm

),letit sit for about veminutes
andthencheckforanydecreaseinpressure.

Increasethepressureupto1.5MPa(15kgf/cm

),letitsitforaboutveminutes
andthencheckforanydecreaseinpressure.

Increasethepressureuptothespeciedpressure(thepressuredesignedforthe
product)andthenmakeanoteofit.
(5) Letitsit at thespecied pressure andifthere is nodecreasein pressure thenitis
satisfactory.Ifapressuredecreaseisconrmed,thereisaleak,soitisnecessaryto
specifytheleaklocationandmakeminoradjustments.
(6) Dischargethenitrogengasandstartingremovingthegaswithavacuumpump.
(7) Openthevalveofthegaugemanifoldfully.
(8) Operatethevacuumpumpandstartpumpdown.
(9) Checkthatthecompoundpressuregaugereads -0.1MPa (-76cmHg),operatethe
vacuumpumpforatleast60minutes.
(10) Attheend ofpumpdown, close thevalveof the gaugemanifoldfully andstopthe
vacuumpump.
(11) Disconnectthechargehosefromthe3-wayvalvechargingport.
(12) Removetheblankcaps,andfullyopenthespindlesofthe2-wayand3-wayvalves
withahexagonwrench.
[torque:6to7N·m(60to70kgf·cm)].
(13) Tightentheblankcapsandchargingportcapofthe2-wayvalveand3-wayvalveto
thespeciedtorque.

• Fortheoperationmethod,refertotheoperatingmanualandperformoperationcheck.
6. PUMP DOWN
6.1. Pump down
PUMP DOWN OPERATION (FORCED COOLING OPERATION)
Toavoiddischargingrefrigerantintotheatmosphereatthetimeofrelocationordisposal,
recover refrigerantby doingthecoolingoperationor forced coolingoperationaccording
tothefollowingprocedure.(Whenthecoolingoperationcannotstartinwinter,andsoon,
starttheforcedcoolingoperation.).
(1) Dotheairpurgingofthechargehosebyconnectingthecharginghoseofgaugemani-
foldtothechargingportof3wayvalveandopeningthelow-pressurevalveslightly.
(2) Closethevalvestemof2wayvalvecompletely.
(3) Startthecoolingoperationorfollowingforcedcoolingoperation.Keeponpressingthe
MANUALAUTObuttonoftheindoorunitformorethan10seconds.Theoperationin-
dicatorlampandtimerindicatorlampwillbegintoflashsimultaneouslyduringtestrun.
(TheforcedcoolingoperationcannotstartiftheMANUALAUTObuttonisnotkepton
pressingformorethan10seconds.)
(4) Closethevalve stemof 3 wayvalvewhen the reading on thecompound pressure
gagebecomes0.05~0Mpa(0.5~0kg/cm
2
).
(5) Stoptheoperation.
•PresstheSTART/STOPbuttonoftheremotecontrolunittostoptheoperation.
•PresstheMANUALAUTObuttonwhenstoppingtheoperationfromindoorunitside.(It
isnotnecessarytopressonkeepingformorethan10seconds.)
CAUTION
Duringthepump-downoperation,makesurethatthecompressoristurnedoffbefore
youremovetherefrigerantpiping.
Donotremovetheconnectionpipewhilethecompressorisinoperationwith2wayor
3wayvalveopen.Thismaycauseabnormalpressureintherefrigerationcyclethat
leadstobreakageandeveninjury.
