Do not operate unattended.
This appliance is for household use only.
Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the frying
cycles.
Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids!
Otherwise, there is risk of electric shock.
Serious hot-oil burns may result from a deep fryer (cooker/fryer,
skillet or fry pan) being pulled off a countertop. Do not allow
the cord to hang over the edge of the counter where it may be
grabbed by children or become entangled with the user.

Do not use with an extension cord.
If any liquid gets into the housing, unplug the appliance immedi-
ately and have it repaired by a qualified technician.
Do not operate the appliance if it has been dropped or is
damaged in any way. Have the appliance checked and/or
repaired by qualified technicians if necessary.
Hot steam is released during the deep-frying process, especially
when the lid is opened. Keep a safe distance away from the
steam.
Ensure that all parts are completely dry before pouring oil or
liquid fat into the deep fryer. Otherwise, hot oil or fat could
splatter out.
Carefully pat all food items dry before placing them in the
deep fat fryer. Otherwise, hot oil or fat could splatter out.
Be especially careful with frozen food. Remove any ice that
may have formed on them. The more ice there is on the food,
the more the hot oil or fat will splatter.
Some parts of the appliance become very hot during operation.
Touching them may cause serious burns.
The appliance should be set up in a stable position using the
handles to avoid spillage of hot liquids.
Do not use an external timing switch or a separate remote
control system to operate the appliance.
Never melt solid fat (fat in blocks) in the deep fryer. Due to
the high temperatures that are generated before the fat covers
the heating element, the heating element can be damaged or
there could be a fire! Melt the fat beforehand in a saucepan
or similar.
Do not use the appliance near hot surfaces.
Never leave the appliance unattended while it is being used.

fryer!
Old or dirty fats and oils can spontaneously ignite if overheated.
Change the oils or fats regularly. In case of fire, disconnect the
plug from the power socket and smother the burning fat or oil
with a damp towel or fire blanket.
When filling the frying container with fat, never fill it above
the MAX marking or below the MIN marking. Whenever
you intend to turn the appliance on, first ensure that there is
sufficient oil or fat in the deep fryer.
Never turn the appliance on if there is no oil or liquid fat in it.
Otherwise the appliance may overheat.
This deep fat fryer is suitable only for frying food. It is not
designed for cooking liquids.

Before first use
Before you use the deep fryer for the first time, please clean
all individual components thoroughly and dry them carefully
(see "Cleaning" section).
Low-acrylamide cooking
Acrylamide is a possibly carcinogenic substance formed from a
reaction with amino acids when frying food with a high starch
content. The formation of acrylamide increases dramatically at
temperatures of more than 347°F.
You should therefore avoid frying food with a high starch content,
for example french fries, at temperatures above 340°F. The food
should only be fried to golden-yellow instead of dark or brown.
This is the only way to achieve low-acrylamide cooking.
Deep frying
We recommend cooking oil or liquid cooking fat for use in this
deep fryer. You can also use solid cooking fats. Read the section
"Solid cooking fats" for more information.

Loosen your grip on the pressed-together rods on the
handle q so that the holding pins project into the holes:
The handle q is now seated firmly on the frying basket w.
Only use oils or fats which are specifically labeled as non-foaming
and are suitable for deep frying. This information can be found
on the packaging or the label.
Never mix different types of oil or fat! The deep fat fryer could
froth over.
4) Fill the dry and empty frying container 2 with cooking oil,
liquid or molten fat (about 33.8 fl oz / 1 liters of oil or about
2 lb / 1 kg of solid fat).
When filling the frying container 2 with oil or fat, never fill it
above the MAX marking or below the MIN marking.
The power cable must not come into contact
with the hot parts of the deep fat fryer. Danger of electric shock!

lamp 8 lights up.
4) Turn the temperature control 6 to the desired temperature.
The cooking oil or the fat is now heating up to the required
temperature. When the required temperature has been
reached, the Ready control lamp 7 lights up.
We recommend allowing the appliance to heat up for 10 –
15 minutes before you start frying.
IB_289717_SFM850A3_LB9.indb 14 26.04.17 14:13
US-EN15
SFM 850 A3
The correct frying temperature can be found either on the packag-
ing of the food to be deep-fried or in the "Table – frying times"
in these operating instructions. A rough guide as to which foods
should be fried at which temperature is provided by the figures
on the front of the deep fat fryer:
Symbol Food Tempera-
ture
Prawns 265°F
Chicken 300°F
French fries
(fresh) 340°F
Fish 375°F
These values should only be used as a guide. The temperature
can vary depending on the properties of the foods and personal
taste!
The lid and the deep fat fryer become
extremely hot during the deep-frying process. Therefore, do not
touch anything except the handles 3 during deep-frying! Risk of
burns! We recommend the use of oven gloves.
5) Press the lid release button 0.
Take care when filling the frying basket w!
It is extremely hot!

16 US-EN SFM 850 A3
6) Lift the frying basket w out of the deep fat fryer. Add the food
to be fried. The frying basket w may only be filled to the extent
that the food is completely covered with fat when the frying
basket w is lowered into the deep fat fryer.
7) Carefully lower the frying basket w into the hot oil or fat.
8) Close the appliance lid.
The frying process can be monitored through the viewing window
in the lid of the appliance.
Solid cooking fats
To prevent fat from spraying and the appliance from becoming
too hot, please take the following precautions when using solid
frying fat:
When using fresh fat, start by melting the blocks of fat slowly,
under low heat, in a normal saucepan. Then carefully pour the
melted fat into the deep fryer. Only when this has been done
should you insert the plug into a power socket and turn the
deep fryer on.
After use, store the deep fryer with the solidified fat at room
temperature.
If the fat gets too cold, it could splatter upon re-melting!
To avoid this, pierce a few holes in the solidified fat with a
wooden or plastic skewer. Ensure that you do not damage the
frying container coating 2.
To melt the fat, plug in the connector plug 4 into the socket 5,
insert the plug into a power socket, push the On-/Off-switch 9
to position "I" and set the temperature control 6 to 265˚F.
The Power control lamp 8 lights up.
Wait until all of the fat has melted. The Ready control lamp 7
may turn on and off several times during this process. Do not
set the desired frying temperature until all of the fat has melted.

After frying
Never touch the frying basket w directly after
deep frying. It is extremely hot! Lift the frying basket w out of the
deep fryer only by the handle q!
1) When the fried food is ready, press the lid release button 0 so
that the lid pops open.
2) Lift the frying basket w and hang it on the rim of the appliance
so that excess fat can drip off.
3) Turn the temperature control 6 to MIN.
4) Push the On-/Off-switch 9 to position "O", to turn the appli-
ance off.
5) Disconnect the power plug from the power socket.
6) Disconnect the connector plug 4 from the socket 5.
7) Once the fried food has dripped dry, lift the frying basket w
carefully out of the deep fat fryer.
8) Tip the fried food into a bowl or a sieve (lined with absorbent
kitchen paper!).
If you do not use the deep fryer regularly, it is advisable to store
the cooled oil in well-sealed bottles or other frying containers –
preferably in the refrigerator or a similar cool storage location.
Fill the bottles through a fine sieve in order to remove any food
particles from the oil.
