Information about the unit

DVB-S Tuner

This unit is a DVD Recorder with integrated tuner for receiving digital TV and radio

stations broadcast via satellite. The DVD Recorder must be connected to a functional

satellite system. Programmes with 5.1 can only be reproduced in

dual-channel sound. Programmes in High Definition cannot be received and recorded.

Surround Sound

DV-interface

You can connect your digital camcorder directly to this unit via the DV IN connection.

This way it’s easy to copy your movies.

(High Definition Multimedia Interface)

Digital audio and video signals are transmitted without data compression in high

quality with only one cable. No loss of quality during data transmission.

TV Guide

The TV Guide gives you a preview of the programmes from up to 50 stations for the

next 14 days. It uses an electronic programme guide (EPG) which is broadcast

specially for Panasonic units.

You can use the data for every programme for Timer programming.

all, depending on the format being used and the programme structure of the disc

VIERA Link

Permits simple operation of the Panasonic products with VIERA Link HDAVI Control.

VIERA Link is a new, characteristic name for the HDAVI Control function. Not all 2007

Point the remote control at the unit’s sensor. Avoid obstacles in the transmission path.

The maximum range of the remote control is 7 m directly in front of the unit. Keep the

transmission window and the unit sensor clean.

The procedure can be impaired by direct sunlight or doors of glass cabinets.

Setting up the remote control

If you are using another Panasonic unit at the same location, change the mode of the

remote control so that you can operate the units independently of each other.

Set up the remote control for the unit.

Press FUNCTION MENU.

Select [To Others] with and confirm with OK.

Select [Setup] with and confirm with OK.

Select [Others] with , [Remote Control] with and confirm with OK.

Select [DVD 1, 2 or 3] with and confirm with OK.

Apply the selected setting [DVD 1, 2 or 3] to the remote control.

Press and hold OK and press the appropriate number button 1, 2 or 3 for at least

5 seconds.

Exit the menu with RETURN.

If the remote control setting does not match that of the unit, DVD 1, 2 or 3 appears

on the unit’s display.

Press and hold OK and at the same time press the appropriate number button

1, 2 or 3 for at least 5 seconds.

If you want to operate two units independently of each other using the same

remote control, then change the remote control setting.

Child lock

You can lock the buttons of the unit and the remote control.

Press and hold RETURN and OK until [X HOLD] appears in the display.

The unit is now locked.

To unlock the child lock, repeat the procedure until [X HOLD] disappears.

Operating a television set

Change the remote control code to operate your television set.

Press and hold the TV on and off switch button.

Enter the two-digit code for your television set.

Switching to AV input on your television

Press AV.

Switches between TV reception and AV input each time the button is pressed.

Some television models of the brands listed above (e.g. older Panasonic units)

cannot be operated using the remote control.

TV/DVD automatic switch on: Both units are automatically switched on with PLAY, DIRECT NAVIGATOR, GUIDE

or PROG/CHECK.

If your TV set is in standby mode, it is switched on automatically with FUNCTION MENU, PLAY or on inserting a disc

DVD automatic switch off: If you switch your TV set off, the DVD Recorder will also be switched off if it is in the STOP

output and delivers a clearer picture than the S VIDEO OUT terminal.

Connections via these terminals produce the colour difference signals (PB/PR) and

the brightness signal (Y) separately. Colours can be reproduced true to the original

colour.

If your television only supports dual-channel audio, then an audio signal with 3 or more channels is down-converted, with

output through 2 audio channels. It is not always possible to down-convert all discs.

For HDCP compatible units with DVI connection (e.g. PC monitor)

Depending on the unit, it is possible that the picture is not perfectly reproduced with a DVI/HDMI adapter. The audio signal

is not transmitted in this case.

HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is a form of copy protection transmitted via HDMI connections and

partly via DVI (Digital Visual Interface). The units must be able to decipher the copying protection to permit playback.

Connections

Connect the DVD Recorder with an HDMI cable to the television.

Switch the units on.

On the television, choose the setting for HDAVI Control.

On the television, choose the input channel for the DVD Recorder.

The input channel must be re-selected every time the connections or settings are

changed.

Automatic input changeover

Press PLAY , *FUNCTION MENU, GUIDE, DIRECT NAVIGATOR or

PROG/CHECK.

The TV and other external units are switched over to the DVD Recorder input

channel. This takes a time. You may possibly not see the start of the title.

Press SKIP or SLOW/SEARCH to go back to the start of the title.

Automatic ON

Press PLAY , *FUNCTION MENU, GUIDE, DIRECT NAVIGATOR or

PROG/CHECK.

The television and other external units are switched on together with the DVD

Recorder, and adjusted to the DVD Recorder input channel.

Automatic OFF

The DVD Recorder and other external units are switched off together with the

television. The unit does not switch off during an on-going Timer Recording, a

recording with REC, the copying function or while finalizing a disc.

HDAVI Control permits linked operation of the DVD Recorder with a Panasonic TV

and other HDAVI Control compatible units.

Common Interface

To view programmes from encrypted stations, you need a Conditional Access module

together with a valid Smart Card and a subscription with the corresponding Pay TV

provider. The Smart Card is inserted in the commercially available Conditional Access

Module (CAM). Please read the instructions supplied for the Smart Card and the

module.

When connecting the DVD Recorder using the Scart cable, you must insert the

module first, because the size of the Scart terminal prevents you from inserting the

module afterwards.

Remove the Smart Card

Press against the middle of the card

and pull it straight out.

Conditional Access module until you

can feel a resistance.

Password query

Depending on the card provider, a password may be demanded after inserting the

card. This appears also for programmes being broadcast with a movie rating.

Enter the 4-digit code with the number buttons.

Delete an incorrect number with DELETE.

Confirm your password with OK.

Other settings on the card, e.g. changing the password, can be adjusted in the Setup

menu. 65

Depending on the card, in some cases its use together with this unit may be limited

or not possible.

Insert the Conditional Access module

The Common Interface supports the modules according to DVB Specification for

encryption systems as for example Cryptoworks, Viaccess, Nagravision, Conax
