1. About this Installation Instruction
This installation instruction manual describes the installation of the FST-R terminal with full size hardened adapter and the
DLX® adapters. The instructions will explain how to handle the terminal and factory integrated adapter drop ports, how to
mount the terminal (hand hole and pole), how to connect and maintain the different adapter types (full size hardened and
DLX) and provide guidelines on how to splice the feeder cable.
2. General product information
The FST-R is a compact sealed terminal with hardened connectivity for reliable plug-n-play distribution to customer premises.
Featuring pre-connectorized hardened full size or DLX adapter drops, and a round loose tube feeder cable (dia5,5mm) to
splice. CommScope’s FST-R enables FTTH deployment in brown eld and green eld applications. Primarily designed for
hand hole applications, the terminal provides fast, easy network connections in space-constrained environments. The FST-R
terminal is available with 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 bre drops.

3. Warnings and caution
Before installing and using FST-R, the user should fully understand the warnings and notes explained in this section.
Warning - Danger: Infrared radiation is invisible and can seriously damage the retina of the eye.
Do not look into the ends of the optical connectors or adapters or exposure to laser radiation may result. Use
an optical power meter to verify if an optical signal is present. Do not assume the laser power is turned off or
that the ber is disconnected at the other end. The dust cap MUST be immediately placed over any radiating
optical connector to avoid the potential of dangerous amounts of radiation exposure. This practice also
prevents dirt particles from entering the connector.
Do not disassemble the product
The user should not disassemble the product. If the user thinks a repair is necessary, contact the CommScope Technical
Support Team.
Installation site condition
For safe and stable use, the product should be installed in a site satisfying the following conditions:
3.1. Avoid locations where temperature is too high or low. FST-R normally operates in an environment with the
following conditions: Operating temperature: -20ºC ~ 65ºC
3.2. Keep the product surroundings clean and dust-free both during and after installation.
4. Required Tools
• Standard tools to mount the FST-R, and cable preparation tools for splicing bers.
• 216 key tool
5. Using Hardened Connectors and Adapters
5.1. Hardened connectors and adapters provide sealed environmental protection for the subscriber drop cable
connector and the SC adapter mounted within the FST-R optical port. The following sections provide a
description of the connector and adapter components and provide instructions for connecting or disconnecting
the drop cable to/from the optical ports.
5.2. The basic components of the drop cable connector are shown in the pictures below. The dust cap threads onto
the connector coupling nut. A pair of O-rings on the connector body provide a tight seal when the dust cap is in
place.
Do not exceed a pulling force of 45N.
