Donotuseanytypeofengineoiltolubricatethecompressorandthesystem.
Neverleavethecompressoroilcontaineropen,alwaysmakesurethatitistightlyclosed.Ifleftexposedtheoilwill
absorbhumidityfromtheairandmay,subsequently,damagethesystem.
Donottransfercompressoroilfromtheoriginalcontainertoanothercontainer.

Mostaccidentsorinjuriesthatoccurinworkshopsaretheresultofnon--observanceofsimpleandfundamentalsafety
regulations.
Forthisreason,INMOSTCASESTHESEACCIDENTSCANBEAVOIDED:byforeseeingpossiblecausesandcon-
sequentlyactingwiththenecessarycautionandcare.
Accidentsmayoccurwithalltypesofvehicle,regardlessofhowwellitwasdesignedandbuilt.
Acarefulandjudiciousservicetechnicianisthebestguaranteeagainstaccidents.
Preciseobservanceofthemostbasicsafetyruleisnormallysufcienttoavoidmanyseriousaccidents.
DANGER:Nevercarryoutanycleaning,lubricationormaintenanceoperationswhentheengineisrunning.
GENERAL
Carefullyfollowspeciedrepairandmaintenanceprocedures.
Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewellery,unbuttonedorloosearticlesofclothingsuchas:ties,tornclothing,
scarves,openjacketsorshirtswithopenzipsthatmayremainentangledinmovingparts.
Itisadvisedtowearapprovedsafetyclothing,e.g:non--slipfootwear,gloves,safetygoggles,helmets,etc.
Donotcarryoutrepairoperationswithsomeonesittinginthedriver’sseat,unlessthepersonisatrainedtechnician
whoisassistingwiththeoperationinquestion.
Operatethevehicleandusetheimplementsexclusivelyfromthedriver’sseat.
Donotcarryoutoperationsonthevehiclewiththeenginerunning,unlessspecicallyindicated.
Stoptheengineandensurethatallpressureisrelievedfromhydrauliccircuitsbeforeremovingcaps,covers,valves,
etc.
Allrepairandmaintenanceoperationsmustbecarriedoutusingextremecareandattention.
Servicestepsandplatformsusedinaworkshoporintheeldshouldbebuiltincompliancewiththesafetyrulesin
force.
Disconnectthebatteriesandlabelallcontrolstoindicatethatthevehicleisbeingserviced.Blockthemachineand
allequipmentwhichshouldberaised.
Donotcheckorllfueltanks,accumulatorbatteries,norusestartingliquidwhensmokingornearnakedames,
astheseuidsareinammable.
Brakesareinoperativeifmanuallyreleasedforrepairormaintenancepurposes.
Insuchcases,themachineshouldbekeptconstantlyundercontrolusingblocksorsimilardevices.
Thefuelnozzleshouldalwaysbeincontactwiththellingaperture.Maintainthispositionuntilllingoperations
arecompletedinordertoavoidpossiblesparkscausedbytheaccumulationofstaticelectricity.
Onlyusespeciedtowingpointsfortowingthetractor,connectpartscarefully.Makesurethatallpinsand/orlocks
aresecuredinpositionbeforeapplyingtraction.
Neverremainnearthetowingbars,cablesorchainsthatareoperatingunderload
Transportvehiclesthatcannotbedrivenusingatraileroralow--loadingplatformtrolley,ifavailable.
Whenloadingorunloadingthevehiclefromthetrailer(orothermeansoftransport),selectaatareacapable
ofsustainingthetrailerortruckwheels,rmlysecurethetractortothetruckortrailerandlockthewheelsinthe
position.
Electricheaters,battery--chargersandsimilarequipmentmustonlybepoweredbyauxiliarypowersupplieswith
efcientgroundinsulationtoavoidelectricalshockhazards.
Alwaysusesuitablehoistingorliftingdeviceswhenraisingormovingheavyparts.
Takeextracareifbystandersarepresent.
Neverpourgasolineordieseloilintoopen,wideandlowcontainers.
Neverusegasoline,dieseloilorotherinammableliquidsascleaningagents.Usenon-ammablenon-toxicpro-
prietarysolvents.
Wearsafetygoggleswithsideguardswhencleaningpartswithcompressedair.
Limittheairpressuretoamaximumof2.1bar(30.5psi),accordingtolocalregulations.

Allmovementsmustbecarriedoutcarefullywhenworkingunder,onornearthevehicleandwearprotectiveequip-
ment:helmets,gogglesandspecialfootwear.
Whencarryingoutcheckswiththeenginerunning,requesttheassistanceofanoperatorinthedriver’sseat.The
operatormustmaintainvisualcontactwiththeservicetechnicianatalltimes.
Ifoperatingoutsidetheworkshop,positionthevehicleonaatsurfaceandlockinposition.Ifworkingonaslope,
lockthevehicleinpositionandmovetoaatareaassoonasissafelypossible.
Damagedorbentchainsorcablesareunreliable.Donotusethemforliftingortowing.
Alwaysusesuitableprotectivegloveswhenhandlingchainsorcables.
Chainsshouldalwaysbesafelysecured.Ensurethatfasteningdeviceisstrongenoughtoholdtheloadforeseen.
Nopersonsshouldstopnearthefasteningpoint,trailingchainsorcables.
MaintenanceandrepairoperationsmustbecarriedoutinaCLEANandDRYarea,eliminateanywateroroilspillage
immediately.
Donotcreatepilesofoilorgrease--soakedragsastheyrepresentaseriousrehazard;storetheminaclosed
metalcontainer.
Beforestartingthevehicleorimplements,makesurethatthedriversseatislockedinpositionandalwayscheck
thattheareaisfreeofpersonsorobstacles.
Emptypocketsofallobjectsthatmayfallunobservedintothevehiclepartswhendisassembled.
Inthepresenceofprotrudingmetalparts,useprotectivegogglesorgoggleswithsideguards,helmets,special
footwearandgloves.
Handleallpartscarefully,donotputyourhandsorngersbetweenmovingparts,wearsuitablesafetyclothing--
safetygoggles,glovesandshoes.
WELDINGOPERATIONS
Whenwelding,useprotectivesafetydevices:tintedsafetygoggles,helmets,specialoveralls,glovesandfootwear.
Allpersonspresentintheareawhereweldingistakingplacemustweartintedgoggles.
NEVERLOOKATTHEWELDINGARCIFYOUREYESARENOTSUITABLYPROTECTED.
Wherepossible,removethepartortoolthatrequiresarcweldingfromthetractor.
Disconnectbothbatteryleads.Isolatethecableendstoavoidcontactwitheachotherandthetractor.
Positiontheweldergroundclampasnearaspossibletotheareawhereweldingistakingplace.
Removetheelectroniccontrolunitslocatedonthetractorifweldingistobecarriedoutnearthesecontrolunits.
Neverallowweldingcablestolayon,nearoracrossanyelectricalwiringorelectroniccomponentwhileweldingis
inprogress.
Metalcablestendtofraywithrepeateduse.Alwaysusesuitableprotectivedevices(gloves,goggles,etc.)when
handlingcables.
STARTUP
Neverstarttheengineinconnedspacesthatarenotequippedwithadequateventilationforexhaustgasextraction.
Neverplacethehead,body,limbs,feet,handsorngersnearfansorrotatingbelts.
ENGINE
Alwaysloosentheradiatorcapslowlybeforeremovingittoallowanyremainingpressureinthesystemtobedis-
charged.Coolantshouldbetoppeduponlywhentheengineisstoppedoridleifhot.
Neverllupwithfuelwhentheengineisrunning,especiallyifhot,inordertopreventtheoutbreakofreasaresult
offuelspillage
Nevercheckoradjustfanbelttensionwhentheengineisrunning.
Neveradjustthefuelinjectionpumpwhenthevehicleismoving.

Ifitisnecessarytouseauxiliarybatteries,rememberthatbothendsofthecablesmustbeconnectedasfollows:

Avoidshort-circuitingtheterminals.GASRELEASEDFROMBATTERIESISHIGHLYINFLAMMABLE.
Duringcharging,leavethebatterycompartmentuncoveredtoimproveventilation.
Nevercheckthebatterychargeusing”jumpers”(metalobjectsplacedontheterminals).
Avoidsparksoramesnearthebatteryzonetopreventexplosionhazards.
Beforeservicingoperations,checkforfuelorcurrentleaks.Eliminateanyeventualleaksbeforestartingwork.

beencompleted,disconnecttheleadinordertocompletetheoperation.
Shimming
Foreachadjustmentoperation,selectadjustingshimsandmeasureindividuallyusingamicrometer,thenaddup
therecordervalues:Donotrelyonmeasuringtheentireshimmingset,whichmaybeincorrect,ortheratedvalue
indicatedforeachonshim.
Rotatingshaftseals
Forcorrectrotatingshaftsealinstallation,proceedasfollows:
Beforeassembly,allowthesealtosoakintheoilitwillbesealingforatleastthirtyminutes.
Thoroughlycleantheshaftandcheckthattheworkingsurfaceontheshaftisnotdamaged.
Positionthesealinglipfacingtheuid;withhydrodynamiclips,takeintoconsiderationtheshaftrotationdirection
andpositionthegroovessothattheywilldeviatetheuidtowardstheinnersideoftheseal.
Smearthesealinglipwithathinlayeroflubricant(useoilratherthangrease)andllthegapbetweenthesealing
lipandthedustlipondoublelipsealswithgrease.
Insertthesealinitsseatandpressdownusingaatpunch;donottapthesealwithahammerormallet.
Whilstinsertingtheseal,checkthattheitisperpendiculartotheseat;oncesettled,makesurethatitmakescontact
withthethrustelement,ifrequired.
T opreventdamagingtheseallipontheshaft,positionaprotectiveguardduringinstallationoperations.
O-ringseals
LubricatetheO-ringsealsbeforeinsertingthemintheseats,thiswillpreventthemfromoverturningandtwisting,
whichwouldjeopardisesealingefciency.
Sealingcompounds
ApplyoneofthefollowingsealingcompoundsonthematingsurfacesmarkedwithanX:LOCTITE®518™,LOCTITE®
5205.
Beforeapplyingthesealingcompound,preparethesurfacesasfollows:
Removeanyincrustationsusingawirebrush.
−Thoroughlyde-greasethesurfacesusingoneofthefollowingcleaningagents:trichlorethylene,petrolorawater
andsodasolution.
Bearings
Wheninstallingbearingsitisadvisedto:
Heatthebearingsto80-90°Cbeforettingontheshafts.
Allowthebearingstocoolbeforeinstallingthemfromtheoutside.
Springpins
Whenttingsplitsocketelasticpins,ensurethatthepinnotchispositionedinthedirectionoftheforcerequiredto
stressthepin.
Spiralspringpinsdonotrequirespecialpositioning.
