Checking and Replenishing Tank Air Charge
Supercell“F”PressureTanksdonotrequireregularairchecksundernormal
operatingconditions.Ifairchargeadjustmentisrequiredthenfollowthe
following procedures:
1. Removethepressuretankcompletelyfrompumpinstallation,ensuring
toisolatethepressuretankandreleasethewaterpressurefromthetank
beforehand. OR
Releaseallwaterpressurefromthepressuretankbyswitchingoffthepump
atthepowerpoint,andopeningtheclosettap.Forabovegroundsupply
tanksitisnecessarytoclosethegatevalvebetweenthesupplytankandthe
pump.
Leavetapopenduringairreplenishment.
2. Whenallwaterpressurehasbeenreleasedfromthesystem,checkair
pressure at air valve on top of pressure tank. The pre-charge pressure
readingshouldbeasdetailedonpage3ofthisdocument.
3. Ifnecessary,replenishairchargetothecorrectpressureindicated.Ensure
thatatapinoutletpipingofpumpisopenduringreplenishmentofairpre-
charge.
Periodic Checks
Flushing:Dependingonthequalityofthepumpedwater,fromtimetotime
yourtankmayrequireushingtoremovesettlednessuchasmudorsand.If
sandormudisallowedtostayinthetankitwillacceleratewearontheinternal
liningandshortenyourtankslife.
Safelydisconnectthetankfromthewatersupply,dischargeallairfromthetank
andushthetankseveraltimeswithcleanwater.Oncetheushingwateris
clean, reconnect the tank and recharge the air as per above.
ExternalInspection:Atankingoodorderwillnotleak,butovertimedue
todamagethroughroughhandling,impactsorgritand/orimpuritiesinthe
waterthetankshellmayfailand/orleak.Shouldthetankleakorshowsignsof
possiblefailurethetankshouldbeimmediatelydisconnectedandreplaced.
CAUTION: To prevent personal injury, ensure all water pressure is
released from the pressure system prior to work being performed.
NOTE: During air replenishment the tank should be externally
inspected. Any signs of leakage from the tank may indicate a need for
immediate replacement.
WARNING: Do not use tank if it leaks or shows signs of corrosion or
damage.
Operational Difficulties & Trouble Shooting
NOTE: Lossofairchargeisthemostoverwhelmingcauseofdifcultieswith
SupercellPressureTanks.Partialorcompletelossofairchargewill
causeanyofthefollowingproblems:-
a) Rapidpumpcycling(ie.pumpstopsandstartsfrequentlyduring
operation).
b. Decreaseddraw-offcapacity.
Alternatively,thesameproblemscouldbecausedbyapuncturedor
leakingdiaphragmasindicatedbywaterleakingfromtheairvalve
whenthevalvecoreisdepressed(typicallywhencheckingtankpre-
charge).
Supercell60F,80F,100F,130F,200Fand250Fhaveadiaphragm
whichiscaptive(non-serviceable).Intheeventofdiaphragmfailure
thewholetankmustbereplaced.
