Notes on speaker use
You can damage your speakers and shorten their useful life if you play
sound at high levels over extended periods.
Reduce the volume in the following cases to avoid damage:
–When playing distorted sound.
–When the speakers are reverberating due to a record player, noise
from FM broadcasts, or continuous signals from an oscillator, test disc,
or electronic instrument.
–When adjusting the sound quality.
–When turning the unit on or off.
If irregular coloring occurs on your television
The front and center speakers are designed to be used close to a television,
but the picture may be affected with some televisions and setup combinations.
If this occurs, turn the television off for about 30 minutes.
The television’s demagnetizing function should correct the problem. If it
persists, move the speakers further away from the television.
Positioning for best effect
How you set up your speakers can affect the bass and the sound fi eld.
Note the following points:
Place the front, center, and surround speakers at approximately
the same distance from the seating position.
The angles in the diagram below are approximate.
Place speakers on fl at secure bases.
Placing speakers too close to fl oors, walls, and corners can result in
excessive bass. Cover walls and windows with thick curtains.
Place the speakers.
Center speaker
Vibration caused by the center speaker can disrupt the picture if it is
placed directly on the television.
Put the center speaker on a rack or shelf.
To prevent the speaker from falling, do not place the speaker directly
on top of the television.
Do not touch the netted area of the
speakers.
Set the speakers up on an even surface to prevent them from falling.
Take proper precautions to prevent the speakers from falling over if
you cannot set them up on an even surface.
Left and right speakers are interchangeable, but front and surround
speakers are not.
Note
Use only supplied speakers
Using other speakers can damage the unit and sound quality will be negatively affected.
Caution
Caution
The main unit and supplied speakers are only to be used as
indicated in this setup. Failure to do so may lead to damage to
the amplifi er and/or the speakers, and may result in the risk of
fi re. Consult a qualifi ed service person if damage has occurred
or if you experience a sudden change in performance.
Do not attempt to attach these speakers to walls using methods
other than those described in this manual.
Main unit
Note
Keep your speakers at least 10 mm away from the main unit for proper ventilation.
To allow for proper ventilation and to maintain good airfl ow around the
main unit, position it with enough space on all sides.
Do not block the ventilation holes of the main unit.
Do not set anything on top of the main unit.

Place to the right or left of the television on the fl oor so that it won't
cause vibration. Leave about 30 cm from the television.

Make sure to use the pair of supplied RF coaxial cables
Use the pair of supplied RF coaxial cables only when you make connections to the unit through its RF IN and RF OUT terminals. Striping may appear and
disrupt images on the TV if you use different cables for connection.
Using a fully wired 21-pin Scart cable
You can use a variety of Q Link functions by connecting the unit to a Q Link compatible television (Operations Guide page 43).
You can enjoy high-quality viewing by connecting the unit to an RGB compatible television (Operations Guide page 50).

The S VIDEO OUT terminal achieves a more vivid picture than the VIDEO OUT terminal. (Actual
results depend on the television.)
COMPONENT VIDEO terminals can be used for either interlace or progressive output (Operations
Guide page 50) and provide a purer picture than the S VIDEO OUT terminal.

Connect the AC mains lead.
Conserving power
The main unit consumes a small amount of power, even
when it is turned off [approx. 2 W (Power save mode)]. To
save power when the unit is not to be used for a long time,
unplug it from the household mains socket.
Set the unit to standby mode and remove the AC mains
lead after “BYE” disappears from the unit’s display.
You will need to reset some memory items in the unit after
plugging.

The included AC mains lead is for use with this unit only.
Do not use it with other equipment. Also, do not use
cords for other equipment with this unit.

Preparation
Turn on the television and select the appropriate
video input to suit the connections to this unit.
Insert so the poles (
and ) match those in
the remote control.
Press [] to turn the unit on.
When connecting to a television that has the Q Link functions
(Operations Guide page 43), downloading from the television starts.
You can download the tuning positions from the television.
This unit’s Auto Clock Setting function synchronizes the time when
the TV channel that is broadcasting time and date information is
tuned.
If the Country setting menu appears on the television.
Press [, ] to select the country and press [ENTER].
Auto-Setup starts. This takes about 8 minutes.

Press [THEATER] to switch the remote
control to operate this unit.
Insert the included batteries into the remote control.
After pressing [] to turn the unit on for the fi rst time, the unit starts

unit off and on again.

[Note]
When connected to a regular television (CRT: Cathode ray tube) or
a multi system television using PAL mode, even if it is progressive
compatible, progressive output can cause some fl ickering. Turn off
“Progressive” if this occurs .
Picture will not be displayed correctly if connected to an incompatible television.
There is no output from the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT terminals if “AV1
Output” in the Setup menu is set to “RGB 1 (without component)” or
“RGB 2 (without component)” (Operations Guide page 37).
Television operation
You can operate the TV through the unit’s remote control.
Point the remote control at the television
While pressing [ TV], enter the code with the
numbered buttons.

Preparation
Output becomes progressive.
Test by turning on the television ([ TV]) and changing channels
([
CH]) after pressing [TV]. Repeat the procedure until you fi nd the code
that allows correct operation.
This setting is retained.
You can enjoy progressive video by connecting this unit’s COMPONENT
VIDEO OUT terminals to an LCD/plasma television or LCD projector
compatible with progressive scan (Operations Guide page 50).

If your television brand is not listed or if the code listed for your television
does not allow control of your television, this remote control is not
compatible with your television.

Executing “Shipping Condition” in the Setup menu returns the main unit
code to “DVD 1”. Change the remote control code to 1 ( step 7).

than 2 seconds.
Attaching to a wall
You can attach all of the speakers (except subwoofer) to a wall.
The wall or pillar on which the speakers are to be attached should be
capable of supporting 10 kg per screw. Consult a qualifi ed building
contractor when attaching the speakers to a wall. Improper attachment
may result in damage to the wall and speakers.
Speaker installation options
Drive a screw (not included) into the wall.
Fit the speaker securely onto the screw(s) with the
hole(s).
