Note:TheFishfinder/chartplotter display unitincludesa cartridge holder as-

sembly which contains two slots for C-MAP NT chart cards.

TFT LCD Displays

Thecolorsofthedisplaymay seemtovary when viewed againsta colored

background or incoloredlight. Thisis a perfectlynormaleffectthatwill be

seenwithallcolorLCD displays.

IncommonwithallThinFilmTransistor(TFT)LCDdisplays,thescreenmay

exhibit a few (less than 20) wrongly illuminated pixels.These mayappear as

blackpixelsin alightportionofthescreen, oras coloredpixelsinblackareas.

How to Use This Handbook

If you are installingthedisplay system yourself, youshould read Chapter 2

eitherabove or belowdeck.

Theunitincludes:

Thedisplayand keyscanbe illuminatedfor night-time use.

TheHSB (High Speed Bus)connection enables transferofdata between two

compatible units. For example,thefishfinder data is transferred from the

fishfinder(the master display)via the HSB connection and can be displayed

and controlledon any other HSBSeriesLCDorCRTdisplay (therepeater

display).Inparticular,youcanconnectyourHSB Series Fishfinderto a

remoteHSB SeriesPathfinderRadar to provide fishfinder, chart, and radar

functionality onbothdisplays.

Note:Your HSB Series display mayrequire a software upgrade torepeat

Fishfinder data. Please contact your authorized Raytheon dealer for details.

Fullfunctionalityofthe fishfinder/chartplotterisachievedwhenitispartofan

integrated system, with other equipment (in additionto another HSB unit)

connected viaSeaTalkorNMEA0183.Data fromthisequipmentincluding

position andheadingisdisplayedonthe display andis usedincalculations.

Transducer

TheHSB SeriesFishfinderis suppliedwitha thru-hull bronzetransduceror a

transom-mountplastictransducer.

Thetransducers measure waterdepth and temperature, distance traveledis

alsomeasuredandis used tocalculatespeed.It isimportant toposition your

transducercorrectly,as describedinChapter 2.

Display Unit Features

• Fishfinder – Usesdepth,fromeitheratransom mountorthru-hulltrans-

ducer,and speed andtemperatureifthetransducer issoequipped.

• Dual or splitfrequency fishfinderdisplay – 50 kHz, 200kHz

• Fishfinder display options – fishfinderwindow, zoom,bottom lock and A-

scope.

• Chartplotter – Displays chart information from theC-MAPNT

®

Operating Modes

ThecombinedFishfinder/Chartplotterdisplay provides, three full-screen

modes–fishfinder,chartanddatalog;youselecttheoperatingmodeusingthe

DISPLAY keyas describedin Chapter 3.

YoucanalsosetWindowsOntosplitthedisplayintotwohalf-screenwindows

toshowsupplementarydata,ortodisplayfishfinderandchartsimultaneously.

The main operating mode(fishfinder or chart) is displayed in the upper

window; you choosewhatis displayed in the lower window.

In addition,if you have an HSBSeriesPathfinder Radardisplayconnected,

you can set thedisplay to radarmode; this provides similar functionality to a

combinedPathfinder Radar/Chartplotter.

The following information, if available on your system, can be shown:

• Chartdisplay(wheninFishfinderorRadarmode)

Fishfinderdisplay(when inChartmode):

Radardisplay(whenin Chart mode):

Ifdata is available,eitheras a functionof the combined displayunit or via

the HSB link, it can be displayed.

• Depth/tempgraph(Fishfindermode):This showsaplotwatertempera-

tureanddepth againsttime.

• Data(Fishfindermode): This optionsplits the fishfinder vertically. The

left hand window displays databoxes; there are three different sets of data

(A, B andC)thatyou can selectfordisplay.

• CDI:This gives the Course Deviation Indicator graphical display, with

data relatingtothetargetwaypoint.

• BDI:ThisgivestheBearingandDistanceIndicatorgraphicaldisplay,with

data relatingtothetargetwaypoint.

• Nav Data (Chart mode):This shows sixteen data boxes,providing navi-

gationaldata intheunits specifiedin yourset up. Note thatupto6 of these

data boxes are also availableas a user-selectablegroup (see Section 7.3).

Note:MARPA functionality is availableon thefishfinderdisplay if you have

an integrated system with a Pathfinder radarmaster displaythatincludes

MARPA asa primaryfunction.

1.2 The Fishfinder Display

When youfirstturnthedisplayunitonandselect fishfindermode, the

scrolling bottom graph is displayed. This is a graphical representation of the

echoesseenbytheFishfinder.Astimepasses,thisdisplayscrollsfromrightto

leftandbecomesarecordofthe echoes seen.A typicaldisplayisshown in

Figure 1-2.

Theimagesat the righthand side ofthedisplayare the mostrecent echoes.

Some echoes indicate fish,andothers showthe bottom.It can alsoindicate

bottomstructures,suchasareeforshipwreck.Theupper andlowerdepth

range limits are shown.

Thefishfinderscreenincludes a statusbarthatdisplays transducerfrequency

andindicateswhich autosettingsareenabled (Gain,ColorGain, Range,

Zoom andFrequency),and alarmstatus(fishandshallow/deepwaterdepths).

Youcan customize the fishfinder by choosing whatisdisplayed and howitis

displayed(includinglanguageandunits).Forexample,youcan setthescroll

speedofthe bottom graphdisplay, andyou can selecttherangetoadjustthe

amountofdetail displayed.

Youcanview thecursor positionanda varietyofdata (suchasspeed,heading

anddepth)fromthetransducer andotherequipment in user-selectabledata

boxes.These data boxes can bemovedaround the screenandtheycan be

switchedonoroff.

Fishfinder Options

The fishfinder providescontrolstoselect additional modes:

• Frequency–youcan selectthetransducerfrequency,50kHz forwidecov-

erageand deepwater,200 kHzfora detailedview,both frequenciessimul-

taneously orauto-frequency. The default settingisauto-frequency,which

determines theoptimumfrequencyof operationbasedon thecurrent

depth.

• Bottom Lock –changes the operating mode to re-set the bottom.Itpro-

vides a bottom-up view: the bottom isused as the reference, its image is

flattened and depths are displayed here. Bottomlockmode isused prima-

rilytofilter-out the bottom structure and displayfish details only.

Functions

• A-scope– displaysa real-time image of the bottom structure andfish

directly below the transducer. TheA-scopewindow also displays the pat-

ented BottomCoveragewidth indication.

• Zoom–enlargesallorpartof thebottomgraphdisplay. You canselectx2,

x4 orx6 magnification and the zoom area can be automatically ormanu-

allyadjusted.

Youcan select Zoom,Bottom Lock or A-scope to bevertically split withthe

bottom graph display.Alternatively, Zoom or Bottom Lockcan be displayed

inplaceofthebottomgraphdisplay.

If you choose dual frequency, thescrolling bottom graph is displayed in both

frequencies,splithorizontally.Zoom, Bottom Lock orA-scopecan be

displayed with the dual frequency graph.

All ofthese options are availablewhen the fishfinder is displayed in ahalf-

screenwindow.

Fishfinder Functions

The HSB Series Fishfinderincludes the following functions:

• Automatic or manualselection of scroll speed forbottom graph display.

• Automaticormanualselection oftransducerfrequency

• Automaticormanualselection ofupper and lowerdepth rangelimits.

• Adjustmentofforeground/backgroundcolorandimagecolorthresholdon

the L760 color display.

• Adjustment of Gain,Color Gain and STC.

• Set up alarms for Fish,Shallow water and Deep water.

• VRM marker todetermine depth anddistance.

• Add marks torecord important or dangerous locations.

• ManOverboard(MOB)tonavigatebacktoapersonorobject.
