You will need the manual for the safety warnings and precautions, assembly
instructions, operating and maintenance procedures, parts list and diagram. Keep
your invoice with this manual. Write the invoice number on the inside of the front
cover. Keep the manual and invoice in a safe and dry place for future reference.
Safety Warnings and Precautions
WARNING: When using tool, basic safety precautions should always be fol-
lowed to reduce the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment.
Read all instructions before using this product!
1. Avoid working alone. If an accident happens, an assistant can bring help.
2. Avoid electrical shock. Use extreme caution when clamping around
uninsulated conductors or bus bars. Prevent body contact with grounded
surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and cabinet enclosures when
testing voltages.
3. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
4. Observe work area conditions. Do not test voltages in damp or wet
locations. Keep work area well lighted.
5. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do
not let them handle Hood Light, tools, or extension cords.
6. Store idle equipment. When not in use, Hood Light must be stored in a dry
location to inhibit rust. Always lock up Hood Light and keep out of reach of
children.
7. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they can be
caught in moving parts. Protective, electrically nonconductive clothes and
nonskid footwear are recommended when working. Wear restrictive hair
covering to contain long hair.

8. Use eye and ear protection. Always wear ANSI approved impact safety
goggles.
9. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not
reach over or across electrical cables or frames.
10. Maintain Hood Light with care. Inspect Hood Light cord periodically and, if
damaged, have it repaired by an authorized technician.
11. Use the right Hood Light for the job. There are certain applications for
which this Hood Light was designed. Do not modify this Hood Light and do
not use this Hood Light for a purpose for which it was not intended.
12. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, use common sense. Do not operate
any Hood Light when you are tired.
13. Check for damaged parts. Before using Hood Light, any part that appears
damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate
properly and perform its intended function. Any part that is damaged should
be properly repaired or replaced by a qualified technician.
14. Replacement parts and accessories. When servicing, use only identical
replacement parts. Use of any other parts will void the warranty. Only use
accessories intended for use with this Hood Light. Approved accessories are
available from Harbor Freight Tools.
15. Do not operate Hood Light if under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Read warning labels on prescriptions to determine if your judgment or
reflexes are impaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do not operate
the Hood Light.
16. Use proper size and type extension cord. If an extension cord is required,
it must be of the proper size and type to supply the correct current to the
Hood Light without heating up. Otherwise, the extension cord could melt and
catch fire, or cause electrical damage to the Hood Light. If you are using the
tool outdoors, use an extension cord rated for outdoor use. (signified by
“WA” on the jacket).
Note: Performance of this Hood Light (if powered by line voltage) may vary depend-
ing on variations in local line voltage. Extension cord usage may also affect tool
performance.
Warning: The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruc-
tion manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may oc-
cur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution
are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by
the operator.

Unpacking
When unpacking, check to make sure the parts listed below are included. If any
parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number on
the cover of this manual.

1. Turn off your vehicle and securely raise the hood.
2. Holding the Hood Light in both hands, reach across your hood and attach the
rubber hook over the opposite side of the hood. Pull on the arm and telescope it
toward you. Secure the hook on your side to the hood. Walk around the vehicle
and check the other side.
3. If you wish to use the light inside the vehicle, use the same method described
above, using the door frames instead of the hood.
4. To switch the light on, plug the Cord (#5) into a power receptacle.
5. You may swivel the Bulb (#2) in it’s holder to align it in a position that elimi-
nates glare and allows the best angle for illumination.
Always carefully grip the entire Tube (1) when the Bulb (2)
needs to be swiveled.
Note: Gripping just the rubber end cap to swivel the Bulb could result in damage
to the product.

Maintenance
Warning! Do not attempt maintenance of the Hood Light until you have removed
the Cord (#5) from the power receptacle.
Changing the Bulb (#2).
1. Take off the Rubber Cap (#3) from the end of the Tube (#1). You might have
to rock it gently to release it from the locking mechanism.
2. A piece of electrical cord protrudes from the Bulb Socket (#4). Gently push
two to three inches of this cord back through the Bulb Socket (#4) creating slack
in the light housing.
3. Carefully remove the Bulb Socket (#4) by slowly pulling it out of the
Tube (#1). Be careful that the Bulb (#2) is not still attached to the
Bulb Socket (#4). If it remains attached, carefully pull the Bulb (#2) loose.
4. Remove the Bulb (#2) and dispose of it properly.
5. When installing the new Bulb (#2), make sure that the pins on the bottom of
the Bulb (#2) insert into the bottom Bulb Socket (#4).
6. Carefully attach the top Bulb Socket (#4) to the pins on the new Bulb (#2)
and slowly pull the electrical cord from Step 2 back through the
Bulb Socket (#4), removing the slack in the light housing.
7. Slide the Rubber Cap (#3) back onto the Tube (#1) making sure it snaps into
the locking mechanism.
8. Inspect the Giant Hood Light visually for any irregularities.
9. Plug in the Cord (#5) and test the light.
10. If the light fails to illuminate, repeat the process above making sure that the
Bulb (#2) pins are inserted into both the top and bottom Bulb Sockets (#4).
Note: Although your Giant Hood Light is Shock Resistant and Unbreakable. The
Bulb (#2) will break from severe trauma. Avoid dropping your Giant Hood Light.
