found.Itissuggestedthatyouretaintheoriginal

TheTHVisbiamplified.Newdrivershavebeendevelopedforimprovedperformanceinallbands.
TheHybridlowfrequencysectioncomprisesahornloaded15”(380mm)/4”(100mm)voicecoildriver
thatisreflexloadedto
extendtheLFoutputtobelowthenaturalcutoffpointofthehorn.ThenewLFdriverfeaturesawaterresistantconeandtriple
rollsurroundforincreasedexcursion.
TheTHVmidhornhasaunique‘phaseball’loadingdevicewhichmaintainstheconstantdirectivity
characteristicsofthehornat
theupperendofitsrange.Itisdrivenbyanew10”(250mm)midrangedriverwithanaluminiumdemodulatingringforimproved
highmidclarityandreduceddistortionwhendrivenhard.The70°x40°THVHFsectionfeaturesaneodymium1”(25mm)exit
compressiondriverwithaKaptondiaphragmforhighsensitivityandextendedHFperformance.
The internal mid/high passive crossover allows this threeway system to bedriven ina biamp configuration. The THVis bi
amplifiedandmustbeusedwithasystemcontroller.MartinAudioDX0.5,DX1.5,DX2oriK42
maybeconfiguredtoprovidethe
recommended2way crossover and limiterfunctions. MartinAudioDX0.5, DX1.5orDX2 mayalsobeused to configureTHV

Safetyfirst
It is important that loudspeaker systems are used in a safe manner. Please take some time to review the following points
concerningsafeuseofTHSeriesloudspeakers.
Professionalloudspeakersarecapableofproducingextremelyhighsoundlevelsandshouldbeusedwithcare.Hearinglossis
cumulativeandcanresult
fromlevelsabove90dBifpeopleareexposedforalongperiod.Neverstandclosetoloudspeakers
drivenathighlevel.
Stacking
Ensurethatthefloororstageislevelandsolid
Donotstackspeakerstoohighoutdoorswherewindscouldtopplethe stack
Be awarethat speakers producing very highpower levels canmove or creep. To avoid this, placefriction material
betweenthefloorandspeakerand
betweeneachspeakerorusestrappingtosecurethestack.
Riggingandsuspension
WARNING:Suspendingthesystemshouldonlybedonebyqualifiedpersonnelfollowingsaferiggingpractices.Securefixingsto
thebuildingstructurearevital.Seekhelpfromarchitects,structuralengineersorotherspecialistsifinanydoubt.
TH Series enclosures are designed for portable applications, but can be suspended singly by means
of the threaded inserts
provided.Enc losuresarefittedinternallywithsteelcornerreinforcementbrackets,wherenecessary,toensurethateachcabinet
isstrongenoughtobehungfromitstop.
Neversuspendoneenclosurefromanothertoformanarrayorclusterusingthesefittings
Thecommonpractice
ofusingcommerciallyavailableeyeboltsforsuspensionshouldonlybeundertakenwithgreat
caution.
Onlyforgedormachinedshouldereyeboltsshouldbeconsideredanditisimportantthatthethreadlengthisatleast

Amplification
Choosingapoweramplifier
Martin Audio loudspeakers are capable of recreating musical dynamics accurately and with incredible impact if powered
correctly.Martin AudioloudspeakerpowerratingsarequotedforAESpower‐alongtermaveragepowerratingwithamuch
closerrelationtoamusicsignalthanothermeasurementstandardssuchasRMS,andPeak
powerashorttermburstcapability.
Moving coil loudspeakers canbe run up to their AES power rating continuously and up to the higherPeak power rating for
transientmusicalpeaks.AllTHSeriesspeakershaveapeakpowerratingfourtimesthelongtermAESrating.Ideallyyou
should
useanamplifierthatcandeliverthefullpeakratingwithoutriskofclipping.Thishowevermaybebeyondthebudgetformany
soagoodcompromiseistoaimforanamplifierthatcandeliveratleasttwicetheAESrating.
This should be acceptable for many applications but
be aware of the limitations particularly if the system is used with
uncompressedlivemusic.Inparticularitisvitaltoavoidamplifierclipping,thisispossiblythebiggestsinglecauseofdamageto
speakerdrivers.Theclippedwaveformhasacolossalharmonicoutputatultrahighfreq uenciesallbeing
deliveredatthefull
powercapabilityoftheamplifiersospeakerdamageisextremelylikely.
Theamplifierselectiontablebelowwillassistinchoosinganamplifiertosuityourapplicationatanacceptablepricepoint.
GainSettings
The vast majority of professional and even budget amplifiers on the market these days have a standard front to back gain
regardlessoftheiroutputpowercapability.Theindustrystandardgainfigureis32dBwhichisagainofX40.Thisfigureisagood
balancebetweenenoughgaintorun
thatmajorityofsystemswithouthavingtodrivemixersandanyotherprocessingequipment
atalevelsohighthatthereisariskofclipping,andnottoomuchgainwhichwouldraisethenoisefloorofthesystem.When
usingaDX0.5orothersystemprocessorwhichhas
alimiterfunctionyoushouldalwaysusethelimitersettingsshowninthe
parameterchart(seethechapterontheDX0.5SpeakerProcessor).Thelimiterthresholdiscalculatedtoallowthemaximum
levelfromyoursystemwithoutdamageandisbasedonaknownamplifiergainsetting‐32dBbydefault.For
thatreasonitisvital
thatiftheamplifierhasfrontpanelgaincontrolstheyMUSTbesetFULLUP.Loweringthem doesnotoffermoreprotectionfor
yoursystem,itjustchangesthegainsettingoftheamplifiersoagreaterinputlevelisrequiredtoobtainthemaximum
power
fromtheamp.Thiswillmakethelimiterinthesystemcontrolleruselessasthegainisnolongeratthe settingforwhichthe

SystemA‐basicsetupbiampingTHVorTHH
Thisisthemostsimplesystemsetupforstereooperation,c onnectingfromyoursource,oftenamixer,st raighttoaDX0.5(or
othersystemprocessor)usingbalancedXLR"microphone"cables.FromtheDX0.5wetakefouroutputs,twolowfrequencyand
twohighfrequencyandtheseareroutedto
thetwoamplifiers.WethenuseaspeakercablethatcombinestwoNeutrikNL2or
NL4Speakonconnectorsintoasingle4corespeakercabletogofromtheamplifieroutputstotheTHspeakerinputs.Thiscould
alsobeachievedwithacustompatchpanelusingNL4panelconnectorswith
shortspeakercablesroutedfrompins1+/‐and2+/‐
onthepaneltothehighandlowfrequency amplifiers.Thiswillallowastandard4corespeakercablecanbeusedbetweenthe
panelandTHspeaker.

ThissystemissimilartoSystemArunningastereopairofTHV(orTHH)biamplified.ThistimewehaveusedaniK42amplifier
from the IKON range. This makes system wiringextremely simple. First we can disregard the loudspeaker processor as the
amplifierhasonboardDSPand
factorypresetsareavailableinVuNettoaddthecorrectparameterstoeachchannel.Secondly,
theamplifierhasfourchannelssoonlyasingleampisrequiredtodriveastereopairofTHV(orTHH),inadditionthe output
wiringcombinesamplifierchannelsontosingleNL4connectorssooutput
2isavailableonbothpins1+/‐onchannel2NL4and
alsoonpins2+/‐onoutputchannel1NL4.Likewise,outputchannel4appearsonchannel4NL4andchannel3NL4onpins2+/.
Thismakesdrivingbiampedcabinetsverysimpleasastandard4core
NL4speakercablecanbeusedstraightfromtheamplifier
totheTHV.Nospecialspeakercablesorpatchpanelsarenecessary.

Thissystemaddsapairofsubwooferstoenhancetheextremesubfrequencyresponseofthesystem.Onthisexamplewehave
usedtheSX218twin18"directradiatingportedsubwoofer.TheMartinAudioDX0.5isagainusedforsystemprocessing,this
timeusingallsixoutputstoprovideleft
andrightoutputsforsub,lowandhighfrequencies.ADX1.5orDX2mayalsobeusedor
evenathirdpartyprocessor,pa rameterstoprogramtheseareavailableinspreadsheetformontheLoudspeakerSettingspage

Aswellasapplyingtherecommendedequalisationtheprocessor

TheXLRfeedsfromthemixergototheinputsoftheDX0.5,theDX0.5outputsshouldbeconnectedtotheamplifierinputswith
shortXLRcables.Aswiththe
basicsystem,acablecombinestheoutputsfromtheHFandLFamplifiersintoasinglesp eaker
cabletoconnecttotheTHV(orTHH).

amplifier. Channels 1and 2 drivethe LF of the THV and channel 3 and 4 drive the SXH218. A separate,smaller amplifier is

HFwhichdoesn'trequirethesamepowerlevelastheLFandsub.

commonlytheseareusedinconjunctionwithshoulderedeyeboltsforsuspendingthecabin etsusingappropriatelyratedchain
orsteelwire.MartinAudio'sHTK00004(M10)areratedforuseinflownapplications.
Notethatifyouplantousealternativeeye
boltsthesemustbeshoulderedcaststeelormachinedNOTformedsteeltypescommonlyavailablefromDIYstores.Theymust
haveasafeworkingloadratingcompatiblewiththeweightofthecabinets.

Werecommendusing aminimumoffoureyeboltswithwhichtosuspendthecabinetirrespectiveofwhichorientationisused.

mostapplicationstwoeyeboltsareusedastheprimarysupportleftandright.Athirdattachestotherearofthecabinetand
isusedtoadjustthedowntiltofthecabinetasrequired.Thefourtheyeboltisusedtoattachasecondarysafetylinewhich
shouldbe
attachedtoasecuremountingpointwhichisindependentoftheprimaryflyingpoint‐roundagirderorsimilar.
